saw this earlier at abenson waltermart munoz selling for P12K. the salesrep said it has the latest codecs.
is this a sign that we will start to expect the influx of cloned blu-rays?

Still too much at P12K.
Panasonic BD60 is only P15K at SnS. And only $121 (P5,549) at Amazon.
Even the branded BD players encounter playback problems on certain Blu-ray discs, due to the complexity of BD-Java authoring.
If you have a generic player, expect playback problems to be more frequent.
Will the generics be supporting their customers with fixes via firmware updates? I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I'd say this is a welcome development in the sense that this might pave the way for cheaper BD player prices in the future. As long as quality is not compromised, why not? If this player would allow me to see The Godfather in all it's high def 1080p glory sans the BD live feature & others, I'd be more than happy. :)

yeah, its a blessing. i was very much tempted to buy the philips bd player, tung may touch screen panel at 7.1 analog outputs costing about P24K last december pero naghintay pa ako baka may further price reduction after the new year, and then voila!, meron nga price reduction, ibang brand nga lang ;D
probably the xenon might have some issues (though di pa tested) but knowing xenon, pulido naman gawa nila kahit considered clones lang sila. i have my trusted xenon ax-205 (5.1 surround speakers) bought 2004 and still bumabayo at maganda pa rin tunog niya (nakakabit sa nextbase NB-895).im just hoping na sana bumaba na ang blu-ray discs the soonest possible. im sure darating din yun, eh PS3 nga na-hack na ;D

You never know, this might be able to play torrent mkv's and other HD videos.

Last weekend at Abensons Glorietta 5, I saw a Philips BD player selling for P11,999. No stock anymore of the LG BD370.
At this price, this might be a better option than the xenon generic BD player.

I think you're right (I sometimes get confused with this penchant to price stuff at P10,999 instead of just P11,000 hehe ... then again, that's the idea, to make you think it's cheaper than it really is ). ;D

The thing I liked about this is the 5.1 Analog audio output na wala sa lower end branded BD player. I am only wary na walang firmware updates ang clone na ito... Local brand ba ang Xenon?

xenon is not a local brand. its from microlabs formerly tied with pioneer. taiwan company

Siempre hindi na 12k. May nagbebenta sa akin ng player niya na super-cheap from outside PDVD. Have a PS4 na, not interested in first person shooter games kaya Xbox has zero appeal. I just want to be able to play my Blurays and R1/2/3 DVDs using the same machine. Region locked kasi for DVD/BD movies ang PS4 eh, and as far as I know, so is Xbox. Can't be hacked.

Yes, I just bought this. You can get a bit of a discount pa kung cash payment. It handles DTS-HD MA/DD-THD no problem, as long as you set it to output bitstream and connect it directly to your receiver. Haven't had any trouble with the audio tracks of any of the blu-rays I've thrown at it yet.
Works well, boots and plays fast, great image/sound quality, multi-region for DVDs out of the box. My major criticism is the remote is rather cramped and flimsy.

May seller nito on OLX na 2nd hand na malaking discount, pero complete with box and under warranty pa yata. Pero Rosario, Cavite pa siya tapos pick-up only kaya hindi sulit for me bumiyahe dun with all the traffic. Hanapin mo na lang yung ad, available pa yata, walang pumapatol :)

malas naman na lemon unit. kaya sa mall na lang ako bumili para ma-test. ok pa naman yung sa akin. pero medyo matigas nga talaga buttons niya.

Sir, I saw it at Ansons Cash and Carry at sa SM Appliance sa Harisson Plaza, same price lang din @3.5K. Xenon na lang ata ang available walang Pioneer brand. May HDMI, A/V analog out, actually parang Pioneer din ang overall size at hitsura sa unang tingin. mukhang ok naman.

i've been seeing the xenon blu-ray player in all the appliance stores. price is about 3,500 pesos. wala na akong nakikitang ibang brand. is this a good basic blu-ray player? matibay po ba? is it region A? hope someone replies. thanks po. :)

If this is being sold in mainstream local appliance stores then this is most probably region A as shown in the map below:

Haven't tested this but one thing going for this is if you play a lot those jack sparrow bd's then this is the recommended player by your neighborhood blu ray disc sellers as this will allegedly 'play all their bd's without any problem'.

thanks for the reply sir. i'm looking for an affordable and basic bluray player po kasi just to play some region A bluray discs. ok lang naman kahit locally made basta matibay saka di nakakagasgas ng discs. :)
