Title: MANILA BY NIGHT Restored Version Screening
Post by: keating on Sep 25, 2011 at 08:18 PM: Ishmael Bernal's masterpiece about the denizens of the night will be seen in a restored version soon. Korea restored the film and gave CCP a copy of the digital file and FDCP will transfer it soon in 35mm format!

Stay tune for the details of the screening.

Just an update, the event will push thru in December simultaneous with the launching of the National Film Archives. The cast will be invited along with the production people.

I hope Sharon Manabat who is now a lawyer in the U.S. will grace the occasion. She was the bubbly alalay of the blind masseuse in this film played by Rio Locsin. If you grew up in the early 80's, you'll remember her in the comedy sitcom KALUSKOS MUSMOS along with Bistek and Maricel Soriano.

When film critic Joel David's extensive essay on Manila By Night for Kritika Kultura came out, I offered my copy to be used as part of it, I was told that the film is the next to be restored after Oro, Plata, Mata but it's not confirmed just yet.
