Nice win by my Gins!!! More aggressiveness pa.  Nakakalusot pa din sina Castro, Williams at Rosser sa drive in plays nila.  Good addition si Yeo.

I know it's still too early in the season but Alex Compton has done an excellent job preparing and coaching Alaska so far. They massacred Meralco by 41pts just now. If they can sustain that kind of defense and stay healthy, malayo mararating ng team na 'to.

Yup.  I got a call from the Bullet Dindo Pumaren as he relayed the bad news.  May legends game dapat sila sa Saudi Arabia pero na cancel na daw because of what happened.

Prayers for the Skywalker.

Samboy Lim was the standout class act during his PBA era ...... played the game clean, but hard - hence, he was often injured for stretches of a season.

I hope he recovers well and soon.

Bro, he passed away na? Wala pa kasi akong nakikitang update/balita. Puro nasa ICU, unconscious, etc. If indeed he's dead, whew a big loss! And it happened in a friendly game pa.

^^ Latest update from Quinito Henson:

"PBA legend Samboy Lim still in ICU, family requesting prayers, he played 6 minutes in practice game at Ynares Pasig last night then went to bench complaining of shoulder pain, drank water and collapsed, was rushed to hospital, Alvin Patrimonio, Allan Caidic, Jerry Codinera and Nelson Asaytono were at the hospital with family last night, family appealing for understanding from media, friends and fans as doctors ordered no visitors allowed, next 48 hours will be critical in determining his mental and physical condition so let's continue praying for our beloved Skywalker."

Let's keep praying that the Skywalker will pull through.

RIP Samboy.

Samboy is still fighting for dear life.  You're right he did took hydroxicut and red bull before the game.  Bro, bedista rin yan si Samboy.

Just a bit of kwento, a few years back I had the chance to scrimmage with Samboy and his students. He teaches basketball to the young ones.  Our San Beda Alumni team went up against his team at the Treston College Gym.  In one play, I took a three point shot while Samboy was "guarding" me and made it!  Of course, he was playing it light and easy on me.    The next play I got the ball again and hit another 3 points over Samboy.  I went to him and said, "Idol, guwardiyahan mo kasi ako.." He laughed and put his arms around me and said, "Ikaw Idol ko!!"  What a nice and warm guy.

I hope he recovers.

The PBA will be releasing the list of 40 Greatest Players soon. They're adding 15 from the 25 dati. Automatic ang mga former MVPs since 2000 except Junemar. Just saw the list and if final na talaga yun, the biggest omission is Danny Seigle. Kerby over Seigle? How did that happen? Ranidel before Kerby pa nga dapat eh.

Like the year-end awards that the PBA gives out, pati ba naman dito sa 40 GOAT may bahid pa din nang popularity & politics.

Sa bagay, hindi nakakapag-taka with panel members like P. Gregorio, Robert Non & Quinito Henson - WTF!

Even a f_cking congressman was member of the panel ! WTF !

Some of my 2-centimos worth .....

** Very flawed criteria to begin with. This is the PBA, where winning an MVP award doesnt mean your the greatest, it just means that you were very good for a particular season.

Some cases, Millers MVP awards came at seasons wherein the PBA sent its top guys to the National Team ..... Kelly Williams won only on stats, he wasnt even the best on his old SLR team.

Also, those SMCorp players who won MVP's due to player and media votes - they have six teams and control most of the press ...... the hell, their teams didnt even make it to the Finals the whole season!

Examples, Arwind, Caguioa, Fajardo (rightfully was excluded).

** In what world do guys like Marlou & Kerby deserve a spot over stalwarts like Hawkins, Asaytono, Seigle, Espino, etc.

Marlou was good for only a couple of seasons, while Hawkins, Asyatono, Espino were good for a looooong time. Heck, when Marlou played for SLR, he was 2nd fiddle to Espino.

** In what world does a guy like Helterbrand deserves a slot over Racela.

Same argument, Helterbrand was good for a season, while Racela was good for more than a decade.

Heck, I wouldnt even pick Helterbrand over guys like Bal David, Dindo Pumaren, Willie Generalao, Arnie Tuadles, etc.

** Pingris & Castro are still playing near their prime ....... still too young to be selected. When the list becomes 50 or 60 GOAT, I have no problem with their inclusion.

For the PBA's Greatest, my suggestion is it should've been the greatest from each decade or generation. Let's say 70s to 80s, 90s to 2000s...For 2010s, wait until they retire. There are many PBA players in the 80s and 90s who deserve to be in the list.  Names like Tuadles, King, Asaytono should have been there.

This might prove to be a bit trickier brader ....... since there are superstars whose careers overlap into two decades and other similar scenarios.

IMO its simple - elevate only those based on overall career merit ...... one can greatly appreciate and objectively gauge a basketball career, only after its all over.

Parang HALL OF FAME of most pro sports - those retired at least 5 years are the ones eligible to be nominated.

Also, only qualified basketball minds are to be part of the selection committee ......TAENA, ano ang alam sa basketball nila Quinito Henson, Barry Pascua, Congressman Ekek, Robert Non, Pato Gregorio, ect !

MALING-MALI ang automatic entry for MVP awardees ...... like I said, there are very clear examples of MVP winners who were only good for a brief period of time e.g. Williams, Miller, etc.

Heck, to this day, Kelly Williams cant make a freethrow shot if his life depended on it ...... to this day, Miller is hounded by countless rumors of game-fixing, he always fails in the clutch.

======================================================

Obvious na naging popularity contest ...... Pingris will go down as one of the greats, but long before he became known in the PBA, guys like Hawkins, Asaytono, etc were tearing the league with stats, awards and championships to show for.

Like I said, lahat nang bagay sa Pilipinas binabahiran nang politika.  ;D

- Jong Uichico, TnT Head coach

http://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/news/ive-been-there-before-says-ex-smc-group-coach-jong-uichico-as-current

Hehehehe. The most ironic and most honest statement ever made in recent PBA history.  ;D

Honestly, I've seen worse than the calls made against TnT last night's Game 2 against SMB ..... a few were bad, but most were just borderline.

Though, it doesn't change the fact that everyone, outside of bandwagoners & fantards, know about the preferential treatment that SMCorp teams gets from the PBA - from referee calls, schedule, breaking salary cap rules, lopsided trades, farm teams, etc.

Eto na nga ba ..... like I said, fans and management might want to exercise great patience when they first hired Cariaso.

The triangle offense takes a loooooong time to master - both for coach and players.

Cariaso was too raw and BGK only had few players who fits in the triangle - probably only Tenorio, Slaughter & surprisingly, Caguioa.

What's funny is, the most successful recent head coach of BGK was Al Chua - and this guy ran the bahala-na-si-batman offense.  ;)

Very exciting game indeed.  1st Q score was 27-5 in favor of SMB.  Alaska had to rally several times to force OT and the win.  Another big game for the Beast Abueva with a double double.  Grabe animal maglaro itong si Calvin.  Hate hime all you want but he's a damn good player.

---

When I went home around 12:30 am earlier, nasa labas ng bahay si Dondon Hontiveros with his dog (neighbor namin ) so I congratulated him. The guy thrives in a highly physical match.

--

I like the matchup earlier between Semerad and Abueva.  Reminds of the San Beda - San Sebastian matches in the NCAA.

I've been watching the PBA closely for a long time now, since the early 80's ...... I've seen many energizer players through the years - but none like Calvin Abueva.

Abueva is all energy, all the time ...... scores, rebounds, hustles, flops, antagonize, etc and he does all of these, as if its the last thing he'll do on earth. He takes way more hits than he gives out.

He's been punched, strangled, kicked, elbowed, etc in every part of his body - yet he'll come back for more, just to get the win.

Not to say that Abueva is perfect - he has many flaws, chief among them is his propensity for errors ..... but boy, the guy is absolutely fun to watch.

As his teammate Dondon Hontiveros said, parang Wolverine daw si Abueva.   He would shrug off any pain and injury.  Kahit daw sa practice nila ganun din kahit masama ang bagsak that would normally be felt by a player laro pa rin daw si Calvin.

As expected, it's 8 vs. 5 in Game 2 of the Finals ....... same recipe through the years, zebras come helping teams from SMCorp.  ;)

Abueva getting manhandled, yet very few calls.

Jimmy Alapag retires. If you're on the opposing team, the sight of Jimmy Alapag bringing down the ball and pulling-up for a long three, makes you curse in silence ...... it's patented and it has won many games.

Easily among the top ten PG's of all time.

have you watch game one and game two?

this championship series between San Miguel and Alaska has turned into a really ugly series: basketbrawl! the referees just let the game play on kahit obvious na yung fouls and the players are getting hurt.

the commissioner should urgently address this problem, yung mga nanonood nga sa mismong venue, naghahagis na ng bottled water to show their disgust. they came to watch basketball game, not a ufc/wrestling match.

the PBA is really deteriorating nowadays. this is not what the fans want. this is only for those very few people who have sadistic "criminal" minds who get excited with the sights of blood right on their face. gone are the days of the gladiators killing each other for the delight of their evil emperor.

this is not supposed to have happened. this is championship basketball.otherwise, the PBA is facing its doomsday earlier than expected.

Title: Re: PBA Season 40
Post by: newwaveboy on Jan 10, 2015 at 03:19 PM
The PBA right now is very similar to the style of play in the 80's, extremely rough and fast paced.

However, the big difference, when a dangerous foul was done in the 80-90's, it was called as such and the player penalized and suspended ...... in Comm. Cheato Salud's PBA, he blatantly favors SMCorp teams that everything became bad precedent.

Fouls above the shoulders were normally F2 (thrown-out & suspension), but since Salud took over, it became F1 and nothing else.

=========================================================================

I'd have to disagree about a few things though - those who threw the bottles aren't disgusted with the game ...... they're simply young fantards who worship personalities (players) and don't know or haven't played the game themselves.

The PBA is thriving, evidence being the addition of 2 more teams and a few more wanting to get in (SM, Lamoiyan, etc) ........ what is wrong however, is that the PBA is attracting the wrong kind of crowd.

It's the kind of crowd who follows players and has zero love and knowledge for the game itself ...... they don't care how a team wins, even if salary cap rules, trading-rules, recruitment/draft rules, etc are violated.

People nowadays, only care about the win ....... fair play and good conduct is not at all important.

^ Indeed, it's the Finals and physical play is expected ...... everybody loves a train wreck, but there should be limits to physical play.

Best said by Yeng Guiao ..... " Physical, not dirty."

But, how can the PBA justify these kinds of acts and not hand out penalties or suspensions.

That's a clear strangle from Dillinger, yet no suspension (hey, the NBA suspended Sprewell when he strangled his coach, and that was in practice!) ........ that's a clear wrestling move (note that the ball is hidden, so there's no play for the ball here - just intent to hurt).

still is a good finals series so far.

What a comeback by Alaska. Down 18 in the fourth, they just relentlessly kept coming back. Parang napagod ang SMB players. Nasira ang pacing ni Leo Austria. Again another monster game by the beast Abueva. He was everywhere - hustling, rebounding, passing, scoring in that furious rally. Thoss Exciminiano, Casio and Dondon also had superb games.

Except for that wayward arm by Abueva on Arwind (dalawang sugat na mukha ni Santos) and some skirmishes by Manuel and Semerad, the game was clean.

To be fair to Leo Austria, he did take full responsibility for the loss ...... indeed, he was slow to adjust when ALASKA ran their press e.g. Ross instead of Cabagnot perhaps.

Hirap, lang may pahabol pa siya na sisi sa mga players ...... well, it's subtle unlike the ones made by Chot Reyes.  ;D

========================================================================

Playing fast on both ends of the court, this is the only way that ALASKA has any chance of winning this series ....... it reduces the chances for the zebras to rob you blind.

Full-court pressing doesn't usually work during playoffs, it's a good thing that ALASKA has a decent roster and Alex Compton spreads the minutes nicely.

This is still anyone's series ...... SMB is ultra-loaded, anyone from starters to bench guys can explode anytime. Let's just hope those zebras call it consistent and fair.

^ Yup, bro ..... SMB is still favored to win this series. Heavily favored, actually.

They have the last 2 MVP's at their roster. They have a roster built to win championships ....... para saan pa ang pag-trade (read: bili) nila nang bluechip draft picks and marquee players from other teams (read: farm teams), kung hindi para manalo nang championships.  ;)

However, many are rooting for ALASKA, myself included ....... no nonsense & hard-nosed play.

Tumpak, it reminds everyone of those old GINEBRA teams ....... hindi, itong recent teams.  ;)

Anyway, I am not sure if it's Alaska's great defense on him or the guards of SMB can't feed him right or BOTH.  June Mar is not getting the ball as he should.

Back in the day, Jawo was an expert in getting those lob passes to the biggies -- Fernandez, Terry Saldana, Marlou Aquino and EJ Feihl.  Jawo had very precise control of the ball kaya hindi takot magpasa si Tatang.

Triangle offense no more for Alaska.  Coach Alex Compton calls it a hybrid, high octane system using full court press and fast paced run and gun offense which definitely fits his lineup particularly Calvin Abueva.

Arwind Santos and Cabagnot are red hot when they get going.  Actually, the last 3 games have shown that SMB is superior to Alaska.  Tambakan mo ba naman ang Alaska ng 20+ points, not once but two games.  Pag pumutok lahat ang SMB players yari ang Gatas republic.  Yun nga lang, they can't seem to close games properly at nawawala diskarte pag humahabol na..

If the referees made calls consistently during the first and third games of this series, then this would have been a sweep. If the referees make calls consistently in the next games, then the outcome should be obvious. But if they refuse to call fouls when players hold with both hands the shirt of the opposing players, basically embracing the player; if they do not call fouls when players extend their hips or butts during picks; if they do not call fouls when players nudge, push, put a hand on the back of a player who goes up for a shot or a rebound; in short, when the the referees do not call fouls when they should call fouls, then this series is up for grabs.

Game 7's are rare things, so let's all hope that the zebras call it fair and consistent the whole game ...... no cheap, ticky-tacky calls please.

I'd still give the edge to SMB - like I always say, theirs is a lineup bought and unfairly built and maintained to win championships ...... anyone on their ultra-loaded roster can score and contribute, so that's always an advantage.

ALASKA's only hope is to defend like they always have and keep it close enough to steal it at the second half ...... they should play fast whenever possible and hope that SMB struggles on those outside shots.

On a sidenote, it's very ironic and troubling that Kim Henares' husband is team manager of SMB (IIRC he was with SMCorp farm team AIR21 before).

It's IMPOSSIBLE that SMB (together with PFOODS, BGK and the MVP teams) can maintain an ultra-loaded roster and coaching stable without exceeding the PBA salary cap.

Since these teams offer side-contracts / under-the-table-deals to their players, that's income tax evasion right there ...... daang matuwid ba ito, Mrs. Henares ?  ;)

If I were SMB management, I wouldn't be too happy with this win.  Delikado si Leo Austria tingin ko.  I've never seen such poor player rotation lately. But a win is a win so congrats to SMB.

But I am now officially an Alaska fan.

He should have better rotation of players.

Great game for Alaska, sayang.  Last full PBA game I've watched was probably in the 90's still.  Now ko lang nakita maglaro si Abueva.  Idol.

Abueva is grit personified. That last defensive play was all Abueva -- forced a jumpball on Fajardo and WON THE TAP.  Alaska could have won had JV made that 3 point shot.

ang ganda talaga ng laro up to the last seconds, di mo alam cno mananalo, classic game eto.

congrats to San Miguel Beermen! new champions... they deserve it,except coach leo austria, binabad sa game si fajardo, pagod na pagod.

Yes,  Arwind Santos deserves to be the MVP.  Big time players hit big time shots.  He somehow lost his touch in the 2nd half mainly due to exhaustion ( because of his coach's poor rotation ) but he managed to hit that go ahead trey.  Wow.  Galing!  Reminds of another similar three he made when he won the championship for FEU vs DLSU.

I don't think it was really poor rotation on Austria's part. It was basically a gamble, a coach's decision. It was the last game of the series and coaches usually go with their big guns. Fajardo and Santos being too tired had nothing to do with playing almost the entire game. Professional athletes are expected to be able to play the entire game or at least pace themselves to last the entire game. Fajardo was more spent than Santos since he had to work on both sides of the floor. Santos had the luxury of staying outside the shaded area during their offense. In the end, Austria's gamble paid off, barely.

This series really showed the importance of conditioning. Alaska was the quicker team for almost the entire series. They seemed to have the energy to play another game after each game ended.

They give 11-12 players significant minutes every game, while SMB has the more conventional 8-9 player rotation.

Alaska: (rotation players in bold)
PG: Casio, Jazul, Banchero
SG: Baguio, Exciminiano
SF: Abueva, Hontiveros, , Dela Rosa
PF: Manuel, Dela Cruz, Espinas
C: Thoss, Eman, Menk,

SMB
PG: Cabagnot,Ross, Fortuna
SG: Lassiter, Pascual
SF: Lutz, Tubid, Omolon
PF: Santos, Semerad (DNP in game 7?), Chua
C: Fajardo, Kramer, Maierhofer,

bakit si Pena pa ang kinuha ng ginebra eh ang tatangkad na nila, considering that they already have slaughter, aguilar, and their tall import.

they should have traded one of their guards for a wing player/slasher coz oversupply na sila ng guards and underachieving pa.

who wins in this trade: SMB
who lost: barako again (farm team?)
Title: Re: PBA Season 40

Yet another lopsided & unethical trade courtesy of SMCorp prime teams and one of its farm teams.

BGK wins simply because even an aged Pena is serviceable compared to the klutz JR Reyes - whom Ato Agustin has no plans of using ..... by the way, JR Reyes is injured to, so why Comm. Cheato Salud approved this trade is beyond me.  ;)

SMB wins (anyone surprised?), since Chua isnt being used and JR Reyes is tall enough to be a center-reliever for Fajardo.

As for BARAKO, it is a sh1t franchise who wont go away since they're being bankrolled by no less than Ramon Ang himself.

Sobrang garapalan ano?

Here's one such murderous transaction that took place a few seasons ago ...... note the irony and hypocrisy.

Back when Josh Urbiztondo was still a high scoring and lead PG of AIR21 (an SMCorp farm team), he was suddenly relegated to the unprotected list of the team - which allowed any team to pick him up, without any compensation e.g. picks, players, etc. for AIR21 whatsoever.

Lo and behold, it was PUREFOODS who picked him up and signed him to a contract.

Then ALASKA head coach, Tim Cone vehemently protested the move, calling it unethical and unfair way for SMCorp to horde more players ...... Tim Cone then was very vocal about SMCorp's many illegal ways to get players and draft picks.

Fast forward a few conferences later, Tim Cone becomes the head coach of PUREFOODS and he performs many lopsides trades with their fam teams (Mallari, Maliksi, Devance, etc) ..... here's the killer - Tim Cone trades Urbiztondo back to AIR21/BARAKO for the rights to bluechip rookie Ian Sangalang !!

HYPOCRISY at its finest ....... if you cant beat them, join them.  ;)

The way Big J voted on the recent PBA 40 Greatest Players, shows that he sides where the money is - plus the fact that he has an "eternal" contract with the GINEBRA brand, makes him a poor candidate.

Glad to hear that JB Baylon is being eyed as a potential candidate - in his last PBA stint, Baylon ha shown high principles - was the team manager of the last non-GILAS National team ......  more importantly, he was against under-the-table and farm team deals, and he was very public about it.

JB Baylon should be the next PBA commissioner.

One factor that affects games is the crowd. It has always been said that the crowd is the 6th member of a team. A company promotes its team by getting players who can play and are popular. There will be times that they will get a player, even if he is not that popular, for his specific skills. There will be times that they will get a player, marginal in skills, for simply being popular. Pacquiao, though marginal in basketball skills, is undoubtedly popular. He would surely bring in fans who would root for his team. Though the idea may not be agreeable for most people, his being a player in the PBA is not a joke, it's a business and strategic decision.

Beg to differ bro. This might have happened in the PBA's very early years - but it hasn't happened since (the last questionable one was probably, Dudut Jaworski).

In fact, the past decade has been a virtual arms race where all the PBA teams harbor talent to serve their purpose - the SMCorp teams, MVP teams, RoS & ALASKA all demand talent in order to contend and win championships. The SMCorp farm teams also harbor talent, albeit to serve their SMCorp masters.

Winning brings in popularity ...... even now, RoS, a team of relatively unknowns, has become the PBA's 3rd most popular team - as confirmed by the league itself.

As for Pacquiao, he's not even a marginal talent - to be very blunt about it; "larong buko" si Pacquiao.

There was never a doubt from anyone, that this was 100% a business move ...... the anger & rants were pointed at KIA management for claiming that Pacquiao had coaching & player skills ...... the anger & rants were also pointed at Comm. Cheato Salud & company, for allowing this to happen - bypassing, hundreds or more deserving coaches & players.

Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao on former import turned rival AZ Reid: ‘He was being disrespectful’
http://www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/rain-or-shine-coach-yeng-guiao-on-former-import-turned-rival-az-reid-he-was-being-disrespectful

“Historically yung situation namin nung kasama namin siya last conference, we felt na yung Game Five namin with Purefoods, he could have given something more in terms of effort,” the fiery Rain or Shine coach said.

“I think that was the main reason why we gave him up. So, naghalo-halo na yun.”

He believes that both sides harbor some negative feelings that just happened to boil over during the incident in Friday’s game.

Alaska traded Espinas for Baclao. Swap din ng 2017 1st rd picks with Alaska getting the pick with the better draft position.

Sayang si Gabby. Yung toughness nya malaking bagay for Alaska. Tumatanda na nga and galing injury pero sipag nun eh. Baclao, though, is definitely an upgrade to Eman.

Good trade for both teams - GLOBALPORT needs more toughness & ALASKA needed more size and youth.

I wouldn't label Espinas as "masipag", he is actually slow of foot, moreso coming from an ankle injury ....... however, Espinas is indeed very tough & plays his heart out.

ALASKA needed to stock-up on post defense, with Fajardo dominating them last conference - Baclao is a decent one to have on the rotation. Plus, with the emergence of Vic Manuel, Espinas became expendable.

The cherry on top will be ALASKA getting the higher pick in 2017.

Rineview pero they showed only one angle which was inconclusive. Though it showed Ranidel's shoes clearly beyond the 3-point line, the video replay's angle gave a doubt as to whether his toes were on the line or not. Siguro inisip ng referee na mas safe yung tawag na 2 points lang tutal magiging tied naman yung score at may time pa naman kaya di na pwedeng sabihin na the call decided the game. But subsequent plays showed that the 1 point difference would have forced Purefoods to take a 3-point shot instead of a drive to the basket to tie the game.
Incidentally, the tv panelist saw it as a 3-pointer and called it a 3-pointer and was surprised to find out it was only ruled a 2-pointer.

I also watched the game on TV and based on the replays they showed, Ranidel's left foot was behind the line ....... admittedly, for some reason, my TV signal wasn't the best that game.

Now, this one bugs me a bit ...... not one ref signaled a three (one-hand up signal), yet not one ref signaled that his feet was on the line as well (one hand-down signal). In fact, not one ref was near the vicinity of Ranidel.

AFAIK, 3-point shots (signaled or not) are reviewable. Since the only available replay angle showed Ranidel's left foot being behind the line - how come the refs did not call it a 3pt basket, after the review.

Maybe, it's some quirk on the rules e.g. initial call was no 3 point, then it stands since video was inconclusive or no video of the right side (?) ....... or maybe, it's about Jong Uichico's claims that refs have always "favored" SMCorp teams during crucial stages.  ;)

Nothing to see here brader ...... matagal nang ganyan si Belga. In fact, this has been the norm in the PBA since Cheato Salud took over.

Madaming gumagawa niyan e.g. Belga, Tubid, Arana, Ranidel, Abueva, Duncil, Baroca, etc.

Daming napipikon na BGK fans, which is very ironic, considering that just a few seasons ago, they had Tubid in their lineup ...... madami sa kanila ang hindi pa buhay nung lumilipad ang mga siko at tuhod nila Big J ang company.  ;)

Abueva is not "turning out to be a jerk".  He IS a jerk. But he's one damn good jerk.  The only difference now is the jerk is playing against Coach Trillo.  Hence, Trillo's reaction.

As I said, Abueva is someone you will only like if he is on your side.  Otherwise, he is a guy you love to hate.

By the way, the jerk was the best player of that game with 18 pts, 9 rebs, 2 steals and that usual hustle all game long.

I watched the replay.  Parang no big deal naman yung reaction ni Luigi Trillo.  Just one of those heated moments. Ph as expected.

As for Calvin, it's a good sign that the guy is maturing.  It will be good for him if he puts more focus on his game.  And bad news for the opponents!

Yup, to be fair to Abueva, he has mellowed down greatly coming from his first 2 seasons ....... nabawasan na ang antics, moreso ang flopping.

Of course, a man's instincts will still show from time to time - very ironic lang at si Trillo ang unang nakapuna at napikon.

Trillo was ousted (ala kudeta) from ALASKA, albeit very discreetly ....... kaya may halong galit na yang puna niya kay Abueva.

Ano ba ang inside story between Luigi Trillo and Alaska?

Besides having favorites, Trillo had a very short rotation when he coached ALASKA ...... this caused some players to complain to higher management.

Instead of working it out (and with Joaqui Trillo already retired), Luigi Trillo was just eased out of ALASKA.

Alex Compton was a popular choice to replace Trillo - he gave playing time to everyone and results have been great ...... ALASKA was extremely close to winning the recent AFC.

Well, coaches usually do have their favorites and rotations are based on these favorites. And his results, having won a championship, are better than Compton's.  He is the son of a long time Alaska manager and add to that the fact that the Alaska management usually gives their coaches free rein over team decisions, (or was that for Cone only), there must be a deeper reason.

PBA legend slams Belga and Guiao
https://ph.sports.yahoo.com/news/pba-legend-slams-belga-guiao-184248964--nba.html

A PBA legend has expressed dismay over the antics of Beau Belga during Rain or Shine’s chaotic win over crowd favorite Barangay Ginebra last Sunday at the Cuneta Astrodome. And if this were not enough, Ricardo Brown, the 1985 PBA Most Valuable Player who is residing in the US, also chastised Rain or Shine Coach Yeng Guiao in his Facebook wall.

[caption id="attachment_253474" align="alignleft" width="230"] Ricardo Brown: “Is this what the PBA has come to?”[/caption]

“Who is this guy? Are you kidding me?” he said, referring to Belga.

“Is this what the PBA has come to? Is this what the PBA fans want to see today? I’ve got news for you. This is NOT basketball at a high level and is an embarrassment to Philippine basketball. Disgraceful.”

Belga’s actions left a bitter taste in the mouth of Ginebra fans, forcing one supporter to throw a plastic bottle on the court during the fourth quarter.

On Tuesday, the former Philippine Christian University bruiser was fined P70,000 by PBA Commissioner Chito Salud but escaped suspension.

Brown also took a shot at Guiao, saying: “Who’s the Rain or Shine coach? Do you think for a second I would allow this BS if I were his coach or team manager? Good Lord. Why wasn’t he yanked and sent to the locker room? That’s on the coach, in my book.”

In a more recent posting, however, Brown was more forgiving, even offering Belga unsolicited advice.

“Flush that ‘bad boy villain’ BS down the toilet because YOU have talent to play the game the right way,” wrote Brown.

“I loved playing a physical game, banging bodies... loved it! But there is a big difference from being a physical player and a dirty player, and you know that. The real and genuine Filipino basketball fans want to be entertained with skillful, high-level, competitive basketball. Nothing more is needed.”

Pressed for comment, Belga would rather not react to Brown’s sentiments but insisted that his style of play won’t change.

“Wala na lang siguro (akong reaction) kasi pag pinatulan ko pa, hahaba lang e. Pero pagdating sa laro, kung anung klase ng laro ko, hindi ko babaguhin. Siguro bawas na lang dun sa antics o yung reactions,” Belga told the Bulletin yesterday.

“Malaki rin kasi yung fine. Minsan kasi emotional yung game, nadadala. Hindi ko alam na may bawal pala.”

Ricardo Brown is an all-time PBA great and I get what he is saying ...... BUT ....

Brown played during the golden age of the PBA - where most of the roughest and dirtiest players played as well .....ex. The whole GINEBRA team (except for Saldana, Ampalayo, etc), Big Boy, Onchie, Ramon "Pambansang Elbow" Fernandez, Rellosa, Tuadles, Frankie Lim ...... heck, even CRISPA had its fair share of dirty players.

Brown is lambasting Belga now, yet for the longest time has been seemingly ignorant and silent about the illegal tactics that SMCorp (his former franchise) uses to cheat its competition, its fans and the integrity of the game.

Maybe its because of the fact, that Danding Cojuangco was his patron from way back ...... even before he came to the PBA.   ;)

^ Ah those Ginebra days of old when fans would throw coins and bottles.  My good friend the Bullet Dindo Pumaren says it's very difficult to go against Ginebra especially in close contests back in the day. The Big J was like Moses!  He has the power to make the crowd go wild and silence them just by raising his arms. In few occasions, people were throwing coins and bottles.  Despite repeated calls from the ring announcer, the crowd seemed getting out of control.  Dindo said the Big J rose from the bench towards center court,  raised his arms and voila, the crowd immediately stopped ;D

Another long-rumored move is the transfer of LA Tenorio to the Globalport Batang Pier for top rookie pick Stanley Pringle.

Tenorio, said to be close to team governor Alfrancis Chua, reportedly had misunderstandings with teammates over the past three conferences.

A source told Spin.ph that Tenorio’s trade has been delayed several times and it is now up to Lim to push the button or not.

Spin.ph also learned Ginebra is in pursuit of Terrence Romeo, who the Kings want to acquire in exchange for Dylan Ababou and another player.

Wow ah.

Na trade si Forrester at Ababou for a 2015 1st round draft pick.

Na trade si Forrester at Ababou for a 2015 1st round draft pick.

Dave Marcelo(Barako Bull) to Ginebra
Billy Mamaril(Ginebra) to Globalport
Rico Maierhoffer(San Miguel) to Barako Bull
Doug Kramer(San Miguel) to Globalport
Yancy de Ocampo(Globalport) to San Miguel
Gabby Espinas(Globalport) to San Miguel

Nothing new here. SMCorp main teams just harvesting from SMCorp farm teams.

Simple lang - why would a doormat team like BARAKO & GLOBALPORT, take in old & injured bench warming players who commands high salaries ...... in exchange for young, prime players at their lower rookie contracts?   ;)

Kung ang ganitong klaseng garapalan nagagawa nang harap-harapan, paano pa kaya ang mga under-the-table deals e.g. out of contract salaries, exceed salary cap, bayaran ang referees, etc.

Caguioa, cannot be traded because he still holds much sway within the BGK crowd (aka fantards) and RSA ...... part marketing, since Caguioa has been BGK's face for the longest time now.

A good majority of the PBA followers nowadays are fantards - these people have not played a single minute of basketball, they do not care about the sport, its rich history, its rules and general fair play, etc ...... all they care about is to see their idol and his team win.

Technically, nobody owns the 2015 1st pick yet, since there's a full conference left to play ...... the final overall "kulelat" standings have yet to be determined.

Beginniing next draft, there will be no more draft lottery in light of the infamous Comm. Cheato Salud salamangkero incident ....... the worst team will get 1st pick, thr next one will get 2nd, etc.

If projections hold true (and it will probably will), @bored is correct that BLACKWATER will get the 1st pick, owing to its inferior lineup and play, compared to the slightly better KIA.

TnT could not really pull away from RoS. If RoS sank half of the free throws they missed, which was around 15 or more, then the outcome might have been different. RoS also did not really have a good shooting night. ;D

The PBA on Thursday announced that the list of candidates for the next commissioner is just down to four, with one of them making it despite not being included in the initial list.

Former PBA player Vince Hizon, current league executive Rickie Santos, St.Clare school owner Jay Adalem and former player and coach Chito Narvasa made the cut.

Narvasa, once a PBA coach and now serves as president of the Basketball Association of the Philippines, was not part of the six initial candidates the league announced last week. But he made it anyway after the PBA changed the criteria for the post.

Talk ‘N Text player Danny Seigle, commentator Charlie Cuna and former NBA executive Mark Fischer are now out of the race.

A new commissioner is expected to be announced on May 15.

The search for a new commissioner came after the outgoing Chito Salud stepped down and eventually took the chief executive post of the league.

The PBA commissioner’s main task will be to oversee the game-to-game operations of the league.

Abueva named to the Gilas Team.  Sources say he is the "favorite" player of Coach Baldwin.  Good choice!  Asia, meet the Beast!!!

Like him or hate him, Abueva is good for Philippine basketball.  And when he wears the RP uniform , at least we will all be cheering for him.  Can't wait for the games.

Even PBA legend Freddie Webb and Coach Tommy Manotoc are saying Abueva is the missing piece. If I have my opinion, kailangan natin sa international yung lumalaban eh. Yung handang masaktan, yung hindi nagdadalawang isip,”

This has always been the biggest knock on Uichico - he's ALWAYS been "blessed" with superior rosters, yet shows poor rotations and baffling substitution patterns.

Assuming they're healthy, I cant see any reason why guys like Washington or Carey cant get more playing time.

That Paul Lee injury looks nasty ...... sayang at di pala siya gumagamit nang mouth guard during games.

IMO, it was Paul Lee's fault why ROS lost.  The play was very clear -- drive and kick to an open Chism.  Chism was open and could've nailed that shot as he is on a roll.

I still consider the SMB-ALASKA a notch "better" than the recent TnT-ROS game 7 ....... just because of the fact that ALASKA always keeps coming back from huge leads, only to get heartbreak in the closing seconds.

Though, without a both Game 7's will go down as some of the best ever.

I'd never find fault in that Paul Lee 3pt attempt ....... he got the shooters itch and he was making some long ones up to that point. Besides, he was carrying his team most of the game and deserves that shot.

Barangay Ginebra acquires Sol Mercado, sends Joseph Yeo to Barako Bull
http://www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/barangay-ginebra-acquires-sol-mercado-sends-joseph-yeo-to-barako-bull

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings traded for Sol Mercado, sending guard Joseph Yeo to Barako Bull in a straight-up deal completed on Monday.

It’s the latest in a series of moves for the Kings, who acquired Dave Marcelo from the Energy last month days after installing Frankie Lim as their new head coach. They also traded Dylan Ababou and James Forrester for Barako Bull’s first round pick in next year’s draft in a separate deal.

Ginebra finished No. 8 last conference and was eliminated in the quarterfinals by top seed and eventual runner-up Rain or Shine.

Mercado will give Ginebra an added punch on offense, averaging 10.6 points and 5.0 assists for Barako Bull in the Commissioner’s Cup.

He will join a loaded backcourt rotation, though, that already has plenty of depth with LA Tenorio, Mark Caguioa and Jayjay Helterbrand.

Yeo, meanwhile, will likely get a chance to see more playing time when he joins his new squad. He posted 6.4 points and 1.6 assists while playing 20.2 minutes per game last conference.

kasama siguro sa package nya as HC, to have the full control sa team..

Which begs the question, "Why him?" Why did they not give Cariaso full control? Why not Ato Agustin who was able to win a championship with San Miguel with a depleted line-up? What is so special about Frankie Lim? Is it because he is so much similar in character (not ability) to Jaworski (the player) or even Guiao as a coach?

The Cagayan Rising Suns have announced their departure from the PBA Developmental League after seeing their head coach get a lifetime ban for punching a referee during a game.

Cagayan in a statement said it will dedicate its remaining games in the ongoing Foundation Cup to disgraced coach Alvin Pua “who has given this team the identity” but won’t be returning anymore next season.

Post by: newwaveboy on May 18, 2015 at 05:14 PM
Mokong din kasi yang si Alvin Pua ...... it's one thing to loudly protest, it's totally another thing when you violently protest.

Madaming beses nang nanakit itong si Pua - he does deserve to get banned; 1 year, 2 years or a lifetime ban will do.

Before fining Maierhofer, Comm. Cheato Salud should have fined & suspended the referees ....... something that blatant, the refs should have definitely blown their whistle.

That being said, Maierhofer's fine was too much ....... a P20,000 fine is something you give out to guys who hurt and instigate e.g. Belga, Tubid, Abueva, etc.

Bro, when you're that big, you'll consider the smaller PBA players as 'amusing' ...... same attitude that BGK's former import Chris Alexander had. Chill lang hanggat kaya.  O0

Also, I've always said that the best kind of PBA import, has always been those who are non-NBA types ...... mga beterano nang D-League, asian leagues, etc.

Nakakatawa itong sina Frankie Lim & Boyet Fernandez - both having horrible PBA stints with GINEBRA & NLEX respectively.

NLEX has been a disappointment the whole season, while GINEBRA even doing worse after Frankie Lim replaced Ato Agustin.

Both Frankie Lim & Boyet Fernandez ruled the NCAA with their loaded rosters. However, now in the PBA, even with loaded rosters (in GINEBRA's case, they are ultra-loaded) ...... bokya pareho.

It just goes to show ...... 1.) In the pros, having the best talent doesn't guarantee wins ...... 2.) ;D

Agree! That's why I really like Juno Sauler. Simple yet instills discipline  Tahimik pero matinik at matalino whatever kind of roster you give him
Title: Re: PBA Season 40
Post by: newwaveboy on Jun 27, 2015 at 02:12 PM
Not to say that Lim & Fernandez doesn't instill discipline in their respective teams - they both do.

What both are highly lacking are creative offensive sets and in-game adjustments. Exposed sila sa PBA (Fernandez' lone PBA championship was with a prime Kelly Williams, Ryan Reyes, Espino, etc).

As for Juno Sauler, indeed he instills discipline and some decent defense (he belongs to the Ron Jacobs school of coaching) but he didn't do well during his short PBA stint with a loaded GINEBRA lineup.

In the amateurs, you can get away with talent ....... in the pros, you actually have to dig down and be scientific about your defense and offense.

Norman Black said it himself, the main key to winning in the UAAP/NCAA is recruitment.

IMO the only proven coaches who can consistently win & develop either an inferior or superior roster, are Tim Cone, Yeng Guiao & Ron Jacobs.

...and Norman Black
Title: Re: PBA Season 40
Post by: newwaveboy on Jun 27, 2015 at 02:20 PM
Norman Black was always blessed with talent when he first coached in the PBA ........ his SMB lineups were legendary e.g. Samboy, Caidic, Calma, etc.

When he left the SMCorp umbrella and got to coach COCA-COLA, he was horrible ....... even making epic failure draft picks e.g. Ordonio, Buenaventura, etc.

He only won again, when he got a prime SANTA LUCIA team, a team ready to win after endless semis stints.

In the UAAP, he won bigtime ...... but like I said, Norman Black was honest enough to admit, that recruitment is the main key to winning in the amateurs.

Pathetic debut conference on the part of Frankie Lim ....... despite having a salary-cap violating loaded roster, an NBA ready import and a crack Asian import, ayun bokya pa din ang GINEBRA.

Yup, malakas talaga ang GINEBRA, easily among the top 3 most talented rosters in the league.

What I had wanted to point out was Frankie Lim's past and present scenarios.

In the amateurs, he enjoyed a loaded roster against sparse opponents ....... now he's in the pros where talent alone doesn't guarantee wins and where most opponents are decently ready, talent-wise and coaching-wise - ayun, Lim did even worse than his GINEBRA predecessors.

Yeng Guiao has been fined countless number of times throughout his PBA career.

IMO the suspensions have been few since most of his rants and antics have been about clearly bad calls and non-calls.

Eh si Lim, first time nya ginawa sa PBA yan, fine + suspension agad. Si Guiao, paulit-ulit ginagawa, fine lang.

Yung incident with Hontiveros nga mas mataas pa fine ni Jarencio nun kaysa kay Guiao eh.

and of the PBA, who will end up champion this time? should be very hard to choose. any team can win it but i am hoping Yeng's ROS can snatch it simply because they have served the national team well without any hesitation.

Coach Frankie Lim's act was really done in poor taste.  Shows you how Abueva can really get to your head. But as a coach, you have to maintain proper demeanor.  You can heckle and badmouth referees, even trash talk some opposing players but never hit nor kick nor slap them.

Jaworski can be mean and can hurt you physically but only when he was playing.  When he was head coach, I do no recall any incident involving him hitting or hurting a player.  Oh yes he makes fun of referees and players especially imports but never did he hurt them physically.  That's class for you.

Suspensyon agad!

Yup, one hell of a game last night. Seriously, the PBA has been churning out epic games the past few years, the latest one being last nights ROS epic comeback win over SMB.

Ang problema lang, madalas na sa semis & finals lang nagaganap ang mga ganitong klaseng laban ...... a surefire sign that the PBA has a very big problem when it comes to league parity.

Like I've always said, only 4-5 teams seriously compete for championships in the PBA for the longest time ...... the rest are hardcore farm teams (obviously BARAKO, GLOBALPORT & the previous AIR21) or expansion teams (BLACKWATER, KIA & NLEX) or just inept teams with serious player & coaching issues (GINEBRA & MERALCO).

ALASKA showing better ball movement in Q4 & Travis hitting the crucial three's.

PUREFOODS showing signs of age ....... very crucial talaga nung nawala si Sanggalang early in the season - they lost their most efficient big man.

ROS na lang ang hinihintay nang ALASKA & it will be the Integrity Finals.

It's not that Alaska is tired from all their comeback wins, it's more of San Miguel not being rattled anymore when the other team rallies. They showed their new-found composure when they answered all the rallies made by RoS in their semifinal match-up. They are showing their composure again in these series.

at 0-3, wala ng gana alaska nyan considering the excellent plays of SMB the past games and their  powerhouse lineup.

they have no match for fajardo and az reid. they also have no match with SMB's 3-point shooters. defense is also the key for SMB.

Based on history (0-13), no team has ever recovered from a 0-3 deficit.

Tim Cone at GINEBRA ....... GINEBRA still won't win, not unless Cone makes some more lopsided trades.

Slaughter, Tenorio & maybe Caguioa, are the only ones who'll fit right away ....... triangle needs a lot of decent shooters and intelligent wings, something which Ellis, Aguilar, Baracael, etc can hardly provide.

If Tim Cone does go GINEBRA, expect multiple trades for forwards like Sangalang (more than a few times had requested a trade to BGK), Devance, Ramos or even Lassiter.

Fully expect Tim Cone to make many lopsided trades to make BGK a triangle-running team.

Tim Cone is no fool - he knows that talent wins in the PBA and its a given that he will raid BARAKO, GLOBALPORT, SMB & STAR like what he did with STAR before.

Expect "useless" BGK players like Ellis, Baracael, etc to be traded soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if a player like Ian Sangalang or Devance finds his way to BGK soon. Tim Cone absolutely loves forwards/centers who know how to bring up the ball, pass or position smartly at the post ........ isa pa, hinog na hinog na si Stanley Pringle para pitasin ni Tim Cone.  ;)

Grabe makasaira nang PBA coaching career itong GINEBRA ....... look at the number of coaches they had the past few conferences e.g. Frankie Lim, Jeff Cariaso, Ato Agustin, Al Chua, Juno Sauler, etc.

Sana mailabas Ni Tim coach ang full potential nung dalawang tower of flower

Inevitable ang improvement ni Slaughter under Tim Cone ...... one just needs to look at Hawkins, Thoss, Juinio, Pingris, Sangalang, etc.

As for Japeth, tweeners (height of a center, but plays like a small forward) like him usually has no place in a Tim Cone system ...... Japeth cant make his own shot, he doesn't have a back to the basket game, he has a shaky jumper & he cant bring the ball down court - the only thing he does well on offense, is a decent drop step which needs to be setup properly by the PG.

The only way that Japeth thrives under Tim Cone is if he improves his jumper and gets a semblance of a post-game ...... something which tweeners like him, find it difficult to do.

I'm 99% certain that Tim Cone will not hesitate do a straight-up trade (via farm team conduit, of course) to get someone like Ian Sangalang, in exchange for Japeth.

kung ma trade man si japeth i believe it will not because of his lack of offensive moves.it will be based on his willingness to learn the system and if he can play good defense.cone values defensive players so much more than the players offense.when cone came to purefoods i was almost sure pingris will be traded, pingris has no back to the basket move then,no outside shooting and cant create his own shots.but because of his defense and hustle he became a very important piece in cone's system.buti pa nga si japeth merong outside shot.pero nakaka excite talaga kung sino sino ma ttrade sa ginebra,si tenorio tingin ko isa sa ma tetrade medyo may edad na sya and cone likes young point guard na madling matuto.kinakabahan na tuloy fans nila caguiao and helterbrand, hehe

paano na kaya si Frankie Lim

Frankie Lim was booted out allegedly because of his involvement with Calvin Abueva during game 2 of their Q'finals series with Alaska. He will be on "floating" status...whatever that means.

Grabe makasaira nang PBA coaching career itong GINEBRA ....... look at the number of coaches they had the past few conferences e.g. Frankie Lim, Jeff Cariaso, Ato Agustin, Al Chua, Juno Sauler, etc.

IIRC, "nagtampo" si Chua. i just forgot why.

si tenorio tingin ko isa sa ma tetrade medyo may edad na sya and cone likes young point guard na madling matuto.kinakabahan na tuloy fans nila caguiao and helterbrand, hehe

i don't think cone will trade tenorio. he knows the triangle more than anyone else on the ginebra line-up. caguioa and helterbrand, i don't think they will be traded, too. they are  "the untouchables" as far as the ginebra team is concerned. look at the team right now, they are the only remnants of the 2008 championship team. despite the injuries and the so-so performance, they are still there.

agree. Yes, i am a Ginebra fan. but i honestly do like the way SMC is running not just their teams (legit and farm), but the league as a whole.

walang untouchable kay tim cone abbarientos, duremdes, cortez ,etc got traded kahit me ibubuga pa naman.sila lastimosa and duremdes na nagsabi nyan, hindi hihintayin ni cone na tumanda ang isang player.i tetetrade nya ito hanggat may value pa lalo na kung me makikita syang youger talent na puedeng i develop.

Jason Webb to replace Tim Cone.

Hehe, naunahan pa ni Webb maging head coach sa PBA ang isang higit na mas matagal na assistant ni Cone - arguably, the greatest PG ever seen in the PBA, Johnny Abarrientos.

Not to take away anything from Webb, he had a half-decent PBA career and was probably the best TV commentator the PBA had ...... makes excellent basketball analysis.

But Johnny A. deserves his shot as well - the guy even gave up a playing slot with ALASKA to achieve his dream to play one more conference ..... just so he wont lose his slot as PUREFOODS assistant.

It just goes to show that speaking English well can take you places in the corporate world ....... look at Ryan Gregorio, very eloquent but got hired for mediocre PBA coaching stints.

Hope Webb does well ..... Johnny A. gets his own team someday.

Jimmy Alapag to come out of retirement, will be traded to Meralco in three-team deal, says Blackwater owner Dioceldo Sy
http://www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/jimmy-alapag-to-come-out-of-retirement-will-be-traded-to-meralco-in-three-team-deal-says-blackwater-owner-dioceldo-sy

First came the buzz that Jimmy Alapag might be on the comeback trail with the Philippine national men’s basketball team after the retired former captain suited alongside the Gilas Pilipinas pool in training.

Now, the ‘Mighty Mouse’ may be making his comeback for real, this time in the PBA.

Blackwater owner Dioceldo Sy told InterAksyon.com in an exclusive interview late Thursday that Alapag will be coming out of retirement and will be a part of a series of trades involving sister teams Talk ‘N Text and Meralco as well as Sy’s own squad.

According to Sy, Alapag will be traded to Blackwater in a one-on-one deal for Larry Rodriguez before the veteran point guard is shipped off to Meralco in exchange for Mike Cortez and James Sena.

“It’s now in the Office of the Commissioner,” Sy said.

Speculation about a comeback sparked the moment Alapag put on a Gilas jersey and joined the workouts out of the national pool selected by coach Tab Baldwin.

The veteran international coach made it clear that Alapag is not part of the pool, although he isn’t closing the door on the player’s possible return.

“Hunger may develop in that guy where he’s gonna demand a spot in this team and if that develops, it would be interesting,” Baldwin said. “If he just continues to say to me, ‘Coach if you need me, call on me.’ That would be fine.”

“If all of a sudden I see that twinkle in his eyes, there might be some fireworks and it’s worth watching.”

GlobalPort trading to get Fortuna from SMB, Pena from Ginebra in exchange for Ponferrada
GLOBALPORT looked bent on forming a consistent playoff contender for the coming PBA season.
Just a few months after acquiring high-scoring guard Joseph Yeo, the Mikee Romero-owned franchise is again putting in more building blocks in a bid to improve on its best-ever Top 4 finish in the last Governors' Cup eliminations.

Of course, draftees like Rosario, Lanete & Vosotros will probably make an impact, since they will be playing for doormat teams.

A minor surprise is scorer Roi Sumang falling all the way into the 3rd round - kapag si Yeng Guiao na ang nag-pass sayo (twice), malamang sa malamang, may problema nga sa attitude ang bata.

Actually, majority of this year's top picks belonged to the MVP teams (TnT, MERALCO & NLEX) ....... as for next year, SMCorp naman ang mga merong top picks.

Talk N Text acquired second pick Troy Rosario in a three-team, five-player trade that got the approval of PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa Tuesday.

The Tropang Texters acquired the 6-6 Rosario from Mahindra (formerly Kia) in exchange for sophomore guard Kevin Alas and veteran forward Rob Reyes.

Mahindra then sent Alas to NLEX, which gave up shooters Nino Canaleta and Aldrech Ramos in return.

Barako Bull also worked its roster, acquiring guards Josh Urbiztondo, Eman Monfort and Jens Knuttel from Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in exchange for Nico Salva and Barako’s 2016 first round pick.

Later in the day, the Energy took Jeric Fortuna from San Miguel in exchange for Brian Heruela.

Title: Re: PBA Season 40

WOW ...... as expected the PBA's greatest coach/hypocrite Tim Cone will make grossly lopsided trades once he got transferred to BGK (like he did with PUREFOODS).

The triangle requires certain types of players & the only way that Tim Cone gets them, is to use SMCorp's farm teams.

** In 2011, Josh Urbiztondo was a high-scoring & starting PG for AIR21 (SMCorp farm team) ..... he was mysteriously relegated to the reserved list, which meant that any team can make an offer and get him. A few days later, Urbiztondo was in PUREFOODS roster.

Then ALASKA head coach, Tim Cone, protested the transfer, saying it was an obvious under-the-table deal by SMCorp and another way to circumvent PBA rules.

** By 2012, Tim Cone was already the head coach of PUREFOODS and had Urbiztondo as a backup PG. Tim Cone totally went against his principles and proceeded to "trade" Urbiztondo back to BARAKO (AIR21 franchise buyer) in exchange for BARAKO's 1st round pick, who turned out to be bluechip rookie Ian Sangalang.

Like all of their lopsided trades, BARAKO will play Urbiztondo for a conference or two and will trade him to another SMCorp team, GINEBRA.

** Now, Tim Cone is the new GINEBRA head coach which has Urbiztondo in it's roster. He does the same sh1t he does a few years ago - he "trades" Urbiztondo, Monfort, etc for Salva (inconsistent but has upside) plus BARAKO's 1st pick next draft ....... where he expects to choose among bluechippers like Ravena, Parks, etc.

Comm. Cheato Salud = Comm. Cheato Narvasa  ;D

Yeah. Troy Rosario for Kevin Alas and Rob Reyes? Incredible!

kevin alas was good when playing in the NCAA but I don't think he has created a good impression in the PBA, Troy on the other hand is a hot commodity tapos pinakawalan, incredible indeed.

brader Verv a lot of basketball analyst were saying he has a lot of potential in fact agreed if not for Tautua joining the draft he would have been number one. surely he has not proven anything in the pro but all write ups point to a lot being surprised about his vast improvement and have not talked about his stint in NU as reason why he was touted to potentially create a stir in the pro its his recent improvement that was the basis. if everything will be based on moves, talent and potential im sure all basketball fans here would agree Rob Reyes would be no match.

Kevin Alas used to be big in the amateur but he has not proven anything in the pro. head to head talent wise and potential to contribute, Alas with Reyes for Troy I believe is incredible indeed but who knows a lot of things can happen. I rarely share my thoughts in this thread but would love to see myself proven wrong about what I believe is a lopsided trade.

I was just wondering, is the PBA untouchable? I mean we as basketball lovers have mostly agreed about SMC and MVP group trying to do a huge mockery of the league with their lopsided trades and manipulations yet there is no one who can end this or even investigate?

Mahindra picked second overall and they will just give away the number two pick for two players who have not created a stir in the league?

I think other teams should raise their concerns on this first. Seems they're just happy with the advertisement they are getting playing in the PBA.

Independent team owners of both ALASKA & ROS (plus the defunt POWERADE) has always been very vocal about the shenanigans in the PBA ...... just a season ago, ROS coach Yeng Guiao called Comm. Cheato Salud a salamangkero.

However, all of these are fruitless since majority wins in the PBA e.g. SMCorp with 5 teams & MVP with 4 teams.

As for the Troy Rosario trade to TnT, it does look lopsided just because he was the 2nd overall pick ....... but looking at it closely, its not as lopsided since, like many posted here, I completely agree that Rosario is more hype than substance. He's still very raw and was a relative unknown even in NU's recent championship.

KIA needs to win in any way possible ....... like BLACKWATER, its a team that seems like it wont last long in the PBA, hence wont build slowly, but will target any win it can get.

Title: Re: PBA Season 40
Post by: newwaveboy on Aug 27, 2015 at 04:19 PM
KIA gets KG Canaleta, Aldrech Ramos & Rob Reyes from the Troy Rosario deal ....... that doesnt sound so lopsided to me, since KIA is on a win-now mode.

Along with BLACKWATER, mukhang hindi tatagal sa PBA itong KIA, kaya win-now mode si Kots Manny.

I must admit I have this mindset when I said incredible trade, and all the while I thought the trade is Troy for Alas and Rob. KG Canaleta have been in trades way too many I cant count it anymore.

so kia's strategy is to get troy and use him as trade bait for players that kia feels can create immediate impact to the team?

Actually, kapag SMCorp ang involved sa trade, its very, very likely that its lopsided ,it involves its farm teams and/or it violates the salary cap ...... either way, madaya sila.

As for MVP, their teams have had their share of lopsided trades, pero higit na mas kaunti kaysa sa SMCorp ..... which doesnt excuse them at all.

Pareho silang madaya.

The trade was probably consumated BEFORE the actual draft.

TnT wanting Rosario, made a trade offer to KIA to draft Rosario for them ...... like I said, it sounds lopsided since it involves a high pick - but the returns that KIA got (KG, Ramos & Reyes) can help them win games far more than a rookie Rosario will.

Like I said, KIA is mainly interested in looking good in the car wars right now ....... drafting Kots Pacquiao and any PBA win they can get, is their only goal.

Brader, regardless if Al Chua was guilty or not (IMO he's guilty), indeed SMCorp should have just kept silent about the issue.

If past pinoy sex scandals had taught us anything, it's best for the guilty parties to keep a low profile and let time do the rest ...... sadyang madaling makakalimot at mapag-patawad ang Pinoy eh.

=========================================================================

Hehe, what goes around comes around din talaga ....... Al Chua was instrumental in the demotion of then SMCorp boss Noli Eala, owing to Eala's never-ending lopsided trades and an adultery scandal.
