Title: RCA Digital HDTV Plus
Post by: coastal on Mar 06, 2015 at 09:21 AM: Got one today. Same channel line-up as the Mahiwagang Black Box here at the office except the ABS-CBN encrypted channels cannot be viewed. Used only the rca cable but quality is the same. Tried playing media files in my 1TB hdd and it did. Will try the hdmi connection at home. Btw maliit lang yung unit parang 2 kahang philip na pinagtabi.

Post by: coastal on Mar 06, 2015 at 02:18 PM: Initially tried both and it played them without hitch. Will try if it can read hdds larger that 1TB and other files as well. It says on the specs that it can decode both Dolby and DTS but will check later.

Nice. Thanks! Talo na niya yung Cybertecbox, sabi dun sa YouTube infomercial ng Cybertecbox - MP4 only, if you play mkv, walang audio.

Looks like a good buy.

Post by: coastal on Mar 06, 2015 at 11:50 PM: I've already tried the hdmi connection but for the media player only. Di kasi nakakabit pa yung antenna sa labas at gabi na he he he. So eto lang muna ang notes ko for the media player function:

Pros
1. Read the powered 2 and 3 TB hdds.
2. Read mp4 and mkv files with audio.
3. Read some flv files not all.

Cons
1. Recognized my 2 2TB portable hdds but will not read the files. Di siguro kaya i-power nung usb port.
2. If may default subtitle yung file it will display it but in a gray box (bad trip). There's no way to turn off the subtitles or change it to other subtitle files (mas lalong bad trip).
3. Seems to not support DTS contrary to what is indicated in the box (bad trip na naman!)

Understandable naman that this is not a full-fledged media player so okay pa rin unless you're expecting more then you'll probably be disappointed.

Well, dahil na siguro sa broadcast standard, I see no virtually no difference between the 1080p and 480p settings.Unless the broadcast is in HD I guess we're stuck with this. I hope somebody else will also test the unit and find other things relevant.

Thanks for this info sir...I was also expecting that using HDMI with the std resolution digital broadcast will not make much difference in terms of picture details. How about TV5 sir? is it really an HD channel?

Post by: coastal on Mar 07, 2015 at 03:29 PM: Nawawala yung TV5 HD na mayroon sa Paranaque yun sana ang gagawin kong barometer. Mayroon Service HD channel pero walang lumalabas. Anyway just to sum up my opinions (lang ha) if wala rin magbrobroadcast in HD then parehas lang ang output and the hdmi support is negated. The MBB has the advantage of the encrypted channels which also nasasagap ng RCA but scrambled and walang audio/video but the RCA has the media player (with limitations) and recording capabilities. Price-wise alam nyo na so its your choice. Ako I'm keeping both he he he.

btw ndi pla kya magread at play ng subtitles ang media player ng rca. anyway for its price, pde na basta magplay..

supplied antenna pa lang ginamit ko at indoor pero ok naman abs, gma tv5, ptv, untv, sports+action. scrambled ibang channels. taytay area.
"PLUS" talaga ung media player function. flac plays ok. mkv, mp4, avi, ts files playable naman pero di ko ma forward sa next chapter. wala next/previous chapter keys ang remote. fast forward/backward lang 2x to 32x.

maliit at magaan yung unit. dahil maliit naisip ko lang at di ko alam kung valid question 'to, meron ba tv in the market na naka-integrate na ang digital hdtv sa unit?

In my mind, I have to get one before the Holy week so call the Electronics Boutique in Robinsons Galleria branch & out of stock. Call the DIY Vera mall branch, out of stock ( May pumakyaw daw na cutomer for 5-sets, HUH! di naman kaya si Manny yon?) So since I'm on my way to Alabang, I have the chance to visit Electronics Boutique Festival Mall branch but still no luck. Haaaayy!!! Parang gusto ko na tuloy bilhin yong TV Plus ng ABS with my frustration that day, but decided to go home nalang.
Ang hirap hanapin ng RCA HDTV Plus on my part, unlike the other one nagkalat di mo na kailangan hanapin pa. But still I am willing to wait & maybe after this Holy week magkaroon na ng stocks.

Just sharing my experience......

Im confused. Whats antenna of analog cable?

If the Sky service in the area is already in digital, it is encrypted and only Sky Digiboxes can decode their signals.

This is a digital tuner, so nothing will happen... as in you will see nothing. ;D

Malamang encrypted ang "SIGNAL" ng CIGNAL hehe! So wala kang makikitang picture.

A bit bigger than RCA Hdtv Plus, it has also a coaxial audio out.

un nga prob cant find an antenna that would fit my location. bumili nko greentek indoor/outdoor antenna.. wala pdn. our apt won't allow placing outdoor antenna kasi. bought a japanese dx antenna which worked quite fine wala lng solar channels which i think ndi ksi umaabot sa lugar nmin un signal..

Yes, aside from that this model has already an coaxial audio out, but I don't know if it supports 5.1 DTS audio.

Post by: coastal on Jun 13, 2015 at 06:36 PM: Decided to try the DV1501 model of RCA (P1,995 sa Ace Hardware, SM North mas mura sa olx ng P100) since the supplied antenna is supposed to have a built-in booster. Apparently, the antenna works the same as the included antenna of the MBB. Not much difference from the old model DV1402 except that the DV1501 has now an RF loop terminal, a physical "on/off" button at the front plate, a co-axial out for audio and the power adapter is replaced by a fixed wire and plug. Not worth the upgrade for me unless you need the added features.

got this because of the HDMI interface as im planning to install it on my car. its input is 5v 2A. so im guessing i can get one of those USB car chargers with 2A power, and either open it up, and hide it away (clean look) or usb powered.

backread pls. from dtv pilipinas gma has not broadcast digitally since july12. so if you u want to watch gma 7 switch to analog na lng muna..

If you're using the DV1402 version, medyo inferior talaga yung included antenna niyan. I'm using the antenna of MBB instead for mine kaya mas decent ang reception.

Thanks. Basically, ang kuha sakin is the TV5 channels, ABS-CBN channels, GMA channels, UNTV channels, and some other channels like Hope, etc.

Post by: sim25rio on Aug 14, 2015 at 11:46 AM: hello po. kakabili lang namin ng rca dv 1501. it works great here in caloocan using just the internal antenna lang nilagay near the window sa first floor. 22 channels nakukuha, just not sure kung ano yung hindi ko nasasagap. yung media player works like a charm for us. we tried playing mp4, mkv ( 1080p )and avi and lhat nagwowork with good audio using the hdmi cable, may subtitle support din. 1995 sa ace hardware with 1 year warranty :)

Try ko later. When you say embedded subtitles, you mean hard-coded right? So part na sya ng video talaga. It's just a question of whether it will play MKVs or not.

1. Read the powered 2 and 3 TB hdds.
2. Read mp4 and mkv files with audio.
3. Read some flv files not all.

Cons
1. Recognized my 2 2TB portable hdds but will not read the files. Di siguro kaya i-power nung usb port.
2. If may default subtitle yung file it will display it but in a gray box (bad trip). There's no way to turn off the subtitles or change it to other subtitle files (mas lalong bad trip).
3. Seems to not support DTS contrary to what is indicated in the box (bad trip na naman!)

was watching a program in channel 2 when all of a sudden, the signal stopped along with all the other channels that ive scanned. ive tried re-scanning and was not able to pick up a single channel. placed the supplied antenna everywhere and re-scanned about 10 times but no good. hooked it up to an external UHF antenna and nothing. went to Taytay, Rizal(im from Angono) and hooked it up to a friends tv who also has the same unit and nothing. went back to Angono and tried it to my titas tv(shes in the rural area of the town) and nothing.

sent it back to SM Appliance for testing. they texted yesterday saying i need to get the unit back, take it home and call the suppliers(Search) tech support hotline for a documented troubleshooting but i told the manager that ive done everything thats on the manual and also added the other steps i did. she went back to the supplier and a few minutes later, was informed that the supplier will have my unit upgraded to DV1501 to ensure that i get better signal quality. the only downside is, i will have to shell out the price difference(roughly Php300).

im ok with that. sayang lang yung 1402 dahil its so small, its gonna be a great addition to the car.

Post by: deist on Oct 08, 2015 at 09:10 AM: I've been using the DV1501 for 2 months now sa bedroom tv namin, happy naman kami and using the provided antenna it can get a signal even without any open windows(because of aircon). Using the media player almost every night to watch movies & tv series, the PQ is better than the built in media player of our Samsung tv. I haven't encountered issues with default subtitles with gray box, though I can always add/remove that background box in 3 different colors & change subtitle files via the menu by pressing "CC" button & select using left/right/up/down arrows.

sayang nga at matagal pa bago gawin mandatory yung pag switch off ng analog signals sa Pilipinas. di mo din masisisi dahil halos lahat ngayon di pa nakaka led/lcd tv at para makapanood yung meron eh kelangan pa nila bumili ng ganitong tv box. tuloy itong mga local networks kahit nakaka regular viewing ka na, ok lang magpatay patay muna yung transmission nila dahil pinag aaralan pa yung system.

and to update: the weather yesterday had no effect on our digital signal. brown out lang ang kalaban, buti hindi pa nangyari hehe. so ayun, malakas ang ulan at hangin - tuloy ang regular programming. at magaganda ang mga chicks sa Wowowin lolz

Oo boss malinaw nga ung resolution ng RCA kasi last night nagscan ako ng channel about 12mn,lumabas ung INC HD at NET25HD.pero pag kinabit sa AV,biglang bagsak ung picture quality.

The "red button" indicate "preview/fullscreen" is the only option I noticed while on "usb" menu. Even I set it before to menu setting "screen ratio" still the same. Is there any other option to play usb movie to original aspect ratio... please help :-\

7. Pretty long. But in any event, you can add an extension. Just purchase a cable and a connector. That's what I did.

Here are my best answers, hope to satisfy your concern:
1) Yup, you will need an adapter to use it in your car. That's I guess the other model comes in.
2) Antenna extension I guess? The manual says it's and RF "Out" too, so I think that's an extension.
3) Most likely HDMI is better as RCA cables are already a thing of a past, RCAs are analog type. Besides there's a reason why there's and "HD" in HDMI. ^-^
But don't forget that picture quality is also affected by the signal received.
4) The coaxial looks like for media setup as stated by the manual.
5) Do you mean the large SSD usbs like external HDD? I am not yet sure, but the box is powered by ac so I think it can run those kind of devices.
6) Around 5-6m, plus the magnetic base is a good trait for me since our window frame is metal.
7) If I remember they're also selling a car adapter for the old model of the same brand.

Check your signal every now and then di naman ako kasi nanunuod ng regular tv broadcast. Although when I re-scanned the channels andun pa rin yung CNN but no signal.

I placed it at the roof flashing. It should point towards North. There are powered antennas (similar to Baron antennas) at Cdr-King before which you can try.

Same here, my RCA digibox suddenly won't turn On. Bought it more than a year ago. Maybe I will buy the ABS-CBNs TV Plus at Ace Hardware. Don't want also to send it for repair.
