Title: Netflix - Now in the Philippines!
Post by: leomarley on Aug 06, 2015 at 09:12 AM
Just seems weird that we have an iFlix thread but no Netfilx ;D

Anyway, just want to share that I gained access using Unlocator.com. Basically, it changes your DNS settings to hide your location. (Doesn't work with mobile networks, ATM).

https://unlocator.com/

I'm currently subscribed to Netflix's 30-day trial and $8.99/mo for 2-devices+HD. so it comes to $8.99+$4.16 for a $13.15/mo subscription.

PS: If we have an existing thread, please merge.

what do you mean by this bro?

anong internet subscription mo now and at 2 devices simultaneous, no obvious lag?

I got the hang of netflix last summer and wondering if my DSL would be good enough.

Our plan is 10mbps but actual speed is 8.5mbps. Haven't tried streaming w/ 2 devices. Just got that plan kasi sa $7.99 na single device plan hindi HD and streaming.

Globe sir na Platinum 10mbps. no capping.
Title: Re: Netflix

i pay $7.99 for my netflix and $3.95 for getflix (to redirect dns).  i think it's in their tos that you're allowed to stream up to 2 devices simultaneously with the same ip.  although when my wife was working overseas for a couple of years we shared a single netflix account and sometimes watched at the same time.  for some reason my account never got suspended or banned.

i'm on 8mbps pldt mydsl and netflix hd and surround works well. i use 3 wd tv live players connected to different tv's in my house.

lately, it's like scraping at the bottom of the barrel looking for shows that's worth watching.  my 10yr old loves netflix though... lots of kids shows.

Title: Re: Netflix
Post by: leomarley on Aug 07, 2015 at 09:22 AM
how are you able to view shows in HD sir? eto kasi plan sa netflix:

(http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb85/leomarley9/netflix_zps3iw7nulx.jpg) (http://s211.photobucket.com/user/leomarley9/media/netflix_zps3iw7nulx.jpg.html)

mas mura yung dns redirect service mo. ma-try nga yan pag natapos na trial ko sa unlocator.com.

i'm still under the old netflix agreement.  when i signed up a few years ago there was only a single option of $7.99/month, and it stays that way for 2 years from the time the increase and new plans started.

yep, getflix is one of the cheapest around.  sa unblockus ako dati for $4.99 until it stopped working and tech support couldn't find a fix.  i switched to getflix last november and still reliable so far.

there's a free way to mask dns. if you're using Chrome, just download the Hola extension in Chrome marketplace.

whats your actual internet speed when watching on netflix? wala naman lag?
Title: Re: Netflix

Netflix available 130+ countries

I wonder how this will compete with iFlix? No Asian shows? Sana wala din restrictions/difference between US and other regions.

I wish you could browse exactly which shows are available before starting the free trial. Is it exactly the same as the content in the US? Hard to say with their website.

you can switch to different regions using the same netflix account naman. afaik may ibang series na hindi included sa Philippines.

The good news is that Netflix is here.

The bad news has been: pupugakpugak pa rin ang internet speed sa Pinas.

At the moment, it doesn't matter whether I'm on LTE or Platinum data plan. Napaka-backward ng sistema. Connected, pero walang data. Mistulang peak hours all the time. Bulok talaga!

My seamless Netflix experience in California and Florida (no infuriating lags and no endless buffering) will always be a benchmark in evaluating this Netflix PH.  I use T-Mobile to watch Netflix and when they advertise LTE data speeds you get truly convincing speeds for the money.

yes. I'm not sure though if you can access it without using a vpn or dns masking service. right now i'm using a dns masking service to access the US region. I want to know though if I can still access it without using one para i'll stop subscribing to unlocator.com at makabawas ng P200 sa bayarin monthly.

Your thoughts

iFlix is a lot cheaper (109 vs. 370 a month for the cheapest Netflix plan) and offers more Asian and Filipino titles.

BTW, do you get more titles/TV seasons when you start paying?

How can you switch to Netflix US?

I think you will still need vpn to access other countries Netflix content. because when I was in Germany for a couple of months, when I access Netflix from there using my usa account, it automatically diverts you to the german site's contents, I have to activate vpn to get the usa content back.

btw, I use my ipad to access Netflix so vpn is free with onavo, although onavo is only useful if you are using usa sites unlike the paid once on a pc were you can choose any territory.

I expect the content would be different in the PH and USA, same as Spotify. USA would probably have additional content and some exclusives.

With the streaming based services coming to us, I just wish our internet speed could catch up, sadly i can't see a light at the end of the tunnel :(

Netflix is now available in the Philippines!

It tested it a while ago. Impressive video and audio quality for streaming content.

I used Apple TV to play Netflix. Jessica Jones was streaming in HD and in 5.1 Audio!

Do you get the same US materials? I'll try mine tonight. Too bad, I had to spent for the annual US VPN account late last month's renewal. :(

Just confirmed it too. It does show me US materials. Maybe perhaps, I signed up US Netflix last year and tried to sign-up again on the local offer but it showed me back to my profiles using the US site (with US VPN before) without problems and this time without the US VPN bypass.

it is safe, been using my us netflix account for almost a year.

same contents? i've seen a thread here iba yun canada netflix sa US. cant remember where...

nope, us content is more extensive, but atleast the netflix exclusives are all included. netflix tend to add local or regional content as the service matures, so i expect more asian content in the months to come. i used my subscription in germany for months and the content there is different from the us and now here in the philippines as well. they have lots of german and european movies there for obvious reasons.

I am not expecting Netflix to have an on par database with torrent sources but I am hoping it to constantly improve its content through time.

Anyway, there is always something to watch that's interesting in its present selections.  Since the database is still limited, it is easier for me to choose what to watch than selecting a movie from my HDD.  :D

I was able to install the app finally in my PS3 connected to my PJ. Most of the audio is DD 5.1 but I am not complaining. Sarap!

It's quite disappointing considering that the the subscription rate is similar to the US, yet content is quite pathetic.  Really puts sense into the the thought that torrents are revenge of the third world countries.

Parang arms race yan. Just wait a few days at most.  Usually, it seems nagagawan ng paraan ng VPN providers na ma-circumvent yung blocks ng Netflix.  :)

Yup may trial both. Once in a while nawawalan but they are always on top of situation. 24/7 ang support and mabilis sumagot. Nag subscribe ako for a year. Sulit naman kasi i have access to all us content.

Syet dahil sayo sir pinanood ko tong Voltron isa pa childhood fav cartoon ko to. he he he.

Maganda sya though nakakamiss yung theme nung lumang Voltron specially pag mag aasemble na sila. Isa pang maganda hindi puro giant robots ang kalaban nila every episode which is nice.. Ok din kasi may comedy mga characters..

Just signed up for a legit Netflix account.  I'm using an old PS3 for it at the moment as the console is already connected to my receiver and set up the way I want it to sound.

I've only been getting 720p streams so far, though, when I choose the HD option. Is it the same for those of you using other devices?  Note that I haven't signed up for the Ultra HD option yet but I was expecting at least native 1080p content.

Sound quality has been good (AC3 5.1, I think).  It could be better but I think my bandwidth wouldn't be able to support anything better than DTS.

Downloads Make It Even Easier to Watch Netflix on the Go (https://media.netflix.com/en/company-blog/downloads-make-it-even-easier-to-watch-netflix-on-the-go)

Netflix members worldwide can now download in addition to stream great series and films at no extra cost.

While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited. Just click the download button on the details page for a film or TV series and you can watch it later without an internet connection.

Yup, you can download using your phone or tablet (iOS and Android).  Not everything is available for download, at least, not yet.

Can anyone test if they can do this on their media player?

Changing from pcm to auto works like a charm..
I just set the sound mode to tv+optical out para no nid switching. I didn't turned on simplink.
Thanks sir xandercage.

Sana makapag 4k pa ang 20mbps kasi nadagdagan ng audio bandwidth.

if you do this then, both TV internal speakers and optical signal out to AVR will both have sounds.  means you have to mute your TV when AVR is on.

and simplink is for HDMI CEC only.

changing from pcm to auto actually did the trick you're looking for.  if set to PCM, the audio out from TV is forced to 2ch but setting to auto is source dependent...

you may put back your TV's HDMI and set to ARC (by turning on Simplink) now...

Trollhunters Season 2 greenlit with Anton Yelchin’s voice work

DreamWorks Animation and Netflix have confirmed Guillermo Del Toro’s Trollhunters for a second season! Consisting of 13 episodes that will debut later this year, Trollhunters Season 2 finds Jim (Anton Yelchin) venturing deeper into the Troll world to battle the vicious leader of the Darklands, while his team works to maintain order in the human world.

In addition, creator/executive producer Gullermo del Toro has revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the late actor Anton Yelchin’s voice work for Season 2 will be utilized in its entirety.

“We’re not only going to second season, but we’re going to be able to preserve a really large part of it with Anton’s voice,” del Toro revealed. “We have an event in the last episode Anton did which allows us to sort of change his voice slightly, so the character stays — but we didn’t plan this. It was pure serendipity that we had that in the works. The beats of the second season have been set for years, and as of now, we have not altered or needed to alter a single beat.”

Netflix Buys Comics Publisher Behind Kingsman, Kick-Ass

Netflix — in the first company acquisition in its history — has bought Millarworld, the comic-book publishing firm founded by Mark Millar, creator of characters and stories including Kick-Ass, Kingsman, and Old Man Logan.

Terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed. Netflix said it will develop films, TV shows and kids’ series based on Millarworld’s portfolio of character franchises to life through films, series and kids’ shows. Today my wife and daughter wasn't able to watch Netflix. They were logged out! But in my phone OK pa when I checked. Then I checked in my account details. A different email address was registered and in Spanish! (http://www.symbianize.com/images/smilies/mad.png)

I called up Netflix Support and they told me to give them a different email address. So they sent me log in details in my other email. They sent me another email for the password change.

Just a warning that there is a possibility that somebody can use your account to access Netflix for free.

Not sure if this has been asked here. I wanted to watch The Office US in Netflix but it's not available here in the Phils. Is there a  work around to see Netflix US shows aside from VPN?

Nope. Only solution is getting a VPN.

Get a trial account first . A lot of vpns do not work . And also develop issues over time like slowdowns or frequent outages , due to Netflix continuous effort to crack down ..

Just got back from a vacation in the US and after experiencing Netflix, I finally decided to subscribe last Friday. Wow! I'm addicted. Too bad it doesn't include American Horror Story pero I'm loving it. I'm about to lower my plan in my Skycable.

Windows 10 app (requires Windows 10 RS3 Build 16299 or later)

I'm surprised hindi napag uusapan ang Bird Box dito. I was getting a lot of ads for this on FB pero hindi ko pinapansin. But then kumalat sa opisina and I got intrigued. It's a pretty decent suspense/thriller. A mix between A Quiet Place and The Happening. Medyo bitin lang.

For a second I thought there was going to be a Walking Dead/Birdbox crossover! ;D

sir, look for unlimited deals on VPN access, just a few months ago my sister was able to avail an unlimited VPN access for $30+ ... 400 per month just for VPN to watch Netflix for US is not practical ... in my case, I'm using Getflix (also unlimited) smart DNS service - unfortunately thit does not work well with Netflix US, so local lang Netflix ko ... definitiely mas madami contents yung Netflix sa US, tried it several times using my account when I'm traveling to US - madaming rated R na adult theme na wala dito, meron mga Asian drama/tv series na di available dito, and at that time yung mga latest Star Wars saga di available dito pero meron sa US (just to name some)

in my case I'm using Getflix smart DNS, I was lucky to avail of their unlimited sale last year ... it is able to access US Netflix, but from time to time you'll get an error while watching, then you just have to resume - working but really inconvenient ... hence, I turned it off for Netflix and just use it for other stuff ... Getflix works well with Sling TV, Direct TV, Hulu, and HBO Now

From Yugatech.com

Netflix won’t increase subscription fees in the Philippines

Netflix recently announced that it will raise their monthly subscription fees. It’s good for the business as Netflix will have more funds to produce and acquire better content, but a bit of a downer for price-sensitive subscribers. Fortunately, subscribers in the Philippines won’t be affected.

According to Netflix Philippines’ PR team, as communicated to Cosmo.ph, the price increase only applies to the U.S. and select markets.

“The price increase only applies to U.S. and select markets in Latin America and the Caribbean. It’s not applicable to the Asia Pacific markets, including the Philippines.”

I initially subscribed to Netflix because of those Marvel series like Daredevil, Luke Cage etc and was very disappointed that Marvel/Disney pulled out these show on Netflix to prepare to launch their own Streaming service.

Firstly, I don't see these Marvel series to be the same again on a Disney platform. These gritty almost R rated Marvel shows would be trimmed down to accomodate a more 'Disney" like rating bearing the Disney name. So I'm definitely out if this Marvel show if it happen.

Secondly, I already fell in love with my Netflix. Those shows that were mentioned in the article like The Office and Friends were my once favorite and have watched that a thousand times already in my movie library files. The Netflix inclusion is just a bonus but not a must form me. I am more into the Korean, Japanese. Asian, Tagalog, UK, European, Documentaries, etc genre content on Netflix more than those sub par (IMHO) US tv shows or movies. Besides, those blockbuster movies (Avengers, Star Wars) I already watched in a THX movie house and/or have downloaded a DD/5.1/Atmos version already.

So I do not see myself subscribing nor switching to another streaming platform like Disney.  One streaming platform - NETFLIX is enough for me. The rest I will just go back to the old reliable T downloading.

The article is like a Disney press release. They are like saying that a lot of Netflix subscribers would swift to Disney +. I don't see this happening. Majority of people won't be subscribing to more than 1 or 2 streaming services. Actually it would be a challenge for Disney  (and the other upcoming streaming platform) to even reach half of Netflix' numbers and content.

Netflix Worth More Than Disney After Streamer’s Stock Hits All-Time High

Netflix — for now — is worth more than Disney after the streaming company’s shares hit an all-time high Wednesday.

Netflix’s stock, extending its three-day rally, closed up 3.2%, to $426.75 per share. That gives Netflix a current market capitalization of $187.3 billion, putting it just over Disney’s $186.6 billion.

Investors clearly are expecting Netflix to benefit from the COVID-19 crisis, with millions of people under stay-at-home orders — and looking for a diversion.

Just subscribe to a VPN service to “mask” your IP address and make it look like you’re in the US. Then Netflix will show US content.

I also use a VPN service (Avast) to access Netflix US. Okay naman for occasional use. Minsan lang may error message na lumalabas saying that Netflix detects that I’m using an unblocker or proxy and that it should be turned off. During Holy Week that was the problem, but now I can access US content again via VPN.

I used to subscribe to PureVPN, naasar lang ako sa parang cat and mouse game between Netflix and the VPN providers, dahil occasionally you will get messages about Netflix detecting a proxy, so you won't be able to use Netflix with your VPN for a while.  I guess it depends on your tolerance levels for disruptions like these.

Technically kasi, Netflix does not allow VPN, so the moment they detect that you are using one, that's when the disruption occurs.  Somehow, most, if not all VPN services have their ways around this restriction, so the disruption is usually temporary.  Like I said, it is a cat and mouse game.  :)

Netflix detects which Country your IP belongs to. Nung nagpunta ako sa US, my Netflix is subscribed sa Philippines, pero pag gamit ko sa US, US content nakikita ko. DYan pumapasok mga VPN service.. Once connected ka and you chose a US VPN connection, netflix will detect na nasa US ka thus will give you US content. Gamit ko si DNS naman and hindi VPN which doesnt affect my connection speed.. sa VPN kasi, it will affect your connection speed eh..

ang napansin ko na madaming difference sa content pag nasa US ako ay yung mga R-rated na contents ... yung mga essential contents available din naman sa local access, including UHD contents ... although I have a lifetime smart DNS subscription, I do not bother to setup my local Netflix access to US - hassle kasi kung minsan dahil sa errors, although naaayos naman, same comments as previous post ... yung mga locally available hindi naman maubos ubos at madami ring bagong content na nadadagdag, I don't think we're missing that much in terms of the content that we want to watch ... kung di available sa Netflix, dali naman kumuha ng content from other sources, but generally I'm satisfied with what is locally available

I'm pretty sure na yung gumagamit lang ng VPN ang maka-access ng ibang content.  All other devices not connected to the VPN will default to the local Netflix.

nope, contents depends on the location you're in ... so kung yung VPN mo makes it look like you're in US, you get US contents, and the others would have local ... pag nasa US kasi ako di ko naman nare-retain yung local line-up, I get the contents available in US

Well so much for the ECQ it has given people a mixture of feelings; happiness (no work w pay) & sad feelings (anxious for whats the "New Normal" coming).

I actually saw this show because I worked on it. I *highly* recommend The Odd Squad. It is a (genuinely) funny kids adventure show that also teaches kids math and problem solving. Your kids will be having so much fun that hindi nila mapapansin na tinuturuan din sila ng math and it is so cleverly and intelligently written that it's also entertaining for adults. You will not mind watching this with them.

It was produced by Fred Rogers' production company and has won lots of Emmys for children's programming.

Binge watched  Transformers until episode 4 yesterday. While not perfect, I like the mature tone that they went with. I especially like Bumblebee's characterization. For too long he was the young, goofy Michealangelo-type character. Dito medyo outsider siya.

One thing that keeps bothering me is, how come Optimus already looks like a Peterbilt truck? Bakit wala siyang Cybertronian form?

Same question. The other Autobots also appear like earth vehicles.

This series is quite entertaining and easy to binge-watch since the episodes are only around 20+ minutes long. Cool cameo by an Autobot fan favorite in episode 6. Unfortunately there’s no word on when the next two Chapters of the trilogy will drop.

MTRCB wants to regulate Netflix and other streaming services. (https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/09/03/20/mtrcb-seeks-to-regulate-content-on-netflix-other-streaming-services)

This is stupid.

How in the HELL will the MTRCB regulate Netflix?

....and WHY would they? To protect the children? To preserve our morality? Give me a break.

To access Netflix, even the one month free trial, you'll need a credit card. Last I checked, a vast majority of children do not have credit cards.

Second, Netflix already has a function which allows parents to easily regulate and monitor what their children watch on the platform.

Third, if that's not enough, Netflix already has a sort of a ratings and content warning system in place. What more would the MTRCB add to this? Are they gonna try and monitor what I can and cannot watch as a functioning adult? Gimme a break.

Netflix Falls Short of Q4 Subscriber Target, Stock Tumbles on Weak Forecast

Netflix ended 2021 with a slightly lower-than-expected subscriber gain in the fourth quarter, and its stock took a steep dive with a weak Q1 outlook.

The streaming giant reported a net gain of 8.28 million subscribers for Q4, again driven by markets outside North America, to reach 221.8 million total worldwide. Netflix previously forecast 8.5 million paid net adds while Wall Street analysts expected 8.3 million, according to FactSet.

‘Daredevil’ and Other Marvel Series Leaving Netflix, but Don’t Have a New Home Yet

Netflix’s Marvel comic book series “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” “The Punisher” and “The Defenders” are all leaving the platform for good at the end of February, Variety confirms. The rights to these series are reverting back to Disney, but the studio has not yet announced plans for where “Daredevil” and company will go. Streaming platforms such as Disney Plus and Hulu are possibilities. Disney had no comment when asked by Variety.

Marvel fans discovered a Netflix disclaimer on these series this week that read, “Last day to watch on Netflix: February 28,” prompting questions about what streaming platform they’ll go to next. While all of Netflix’s Marvel series were branded as “Netflix Originals” to consumers, the shows were licensed out to the streaming giant from Disney. Netflix’s licensing deal for the series has ended.

The Story of Netflix - 25th Anniversary

https://youtu.be/pMZPTnWpaWk

On August 29, 2022 Netflix turned 25 years old.

I had the opportunity to work for one of the men who was part of the execom team of Blockbuster Video, the company that turned down the potential acquisition of Netflix back in early 2000 for $50M.  The net worth of Blockbuster as a company at that time was almost $5 Billion dollars. Their CEO thought that the acquisition of the physical media and renting it out was still the best business model for home entertainment.  The had 9000 stores and had total monopoly of providing the home entertainment needs of the USA.

He was wrong.

On the other hand, mautak kasi ang ibang Pinoy.  May mga nakikita ako na nag-aalok ng account sharing sa kahit di kamag-anak, para makatipid ng babayaran monthly.  ::)

Why Netflix Is Planning to Open Its Own Permanent Retail Outlets

Netflix announced plans to open its first permanent bricks-and-mortar locations, initially targeting two in the U.S. in 2025. (The company has not said where those will be.) The outlets will be kind of mini theme parks: They’ll serve food and drink, sell merchandise and include “immersive” installations based on its hit titles like “Squid Game” or “Stranger Things.”

But Netflix’s vision for the permanent retail destinations, as with its other IRL activations to date, is for them to serve primarily as marketing vehicles promoting the core streaming service. The goal with the Netflix House concept is to drive fan engagement, VP of consumer products Josh Simon told Bloomberg. “We’ve seen how much fans love to immerse themselves in the world of our movies and TV shows, and we’ve been thinking a lot about how we take that to the next level,” he said.

‘Supersex’ Series About Porn Star Rocco Siffredi Sets Netflix Premiere Date

Netflix has set a March 6 premiere date for “Supersex,” the series freely inspired by the real life of global porn star Rocco Siffredi, who has more than 1,500 hardcore films to his name.

The series is created and written by prominent Italian screenwriter Francesca Manieri (“We Are Who We Are,” “L’Immensità”) who is known to be a militant feminist. It is described in promotional materials as a profound story that runs through Siffredi’s life since childhood and looks at his family, “his relationship with love” and how “Rocco Tano — a simple guy from Ortona [a small town in central Italy] — became Rocco Siffredi, the most famous pornstar in the world.”
