Patrick Stewart is returning to his iconic Captain Jean-Luc Picard role for a new Star Trek TV series on CBS All-Access. The new series, which is not a Star Trek: Next Generation reboot, will tell the story of the next chapter of Picard’s life. It will be shepherded by Star Trek: Discovery co-creator/executive producer Alex Kurtzman who was tapped to oversee development of new Star Trek content under a big new overall deal with CBS TV Studios.

Kurtzman will be joined by James Duff, who recently joined Star Trek: Discovery as executive producer and signed a CBS Studios overall deal, former Discovery exec producer Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon, and Discovery writer Kirsten Beyer.

Stewart confirmed his involvement during a surprise appearance at the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention. "I will always be very proud to have been a part of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but when we wrapped that final movie in the spring of 2002, I truly felt my time with Star Trek had run its natural course," he said. "It is, therefore, an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions within him. Seeking out new life for him, when I thought that life was over."

Awesome news! Picard is my fav Star Trek captain. The coolest IMO.

Patrick Stewart Reveals Writers for Picard Star Trek Series

After the big announcement last month that Sir Patrick Stewart would be returning to the Star Trek franchise reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard in a new show for CBS All Access, the actor revealed today the writers that will be working on the new series, which includes writers Kirsten Beyer (Star Trek: Discovery), Michael Chabon (John Carter), Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind), Diandra Pendleton-Thompson (Lucky Night), and Emmy nominee James Duff (Major Crimes).

CBS revealed at its New York upfronts that its new Star Trek series, in which Patrick Stewart will reprise his Next Generation Jean-Luc Picard role, will officially be titled Star Trek: Picard. A+ for accuracy! The network also revealed a look at the series’ official logo.
