halooo all!
we had our first Trekkie meeting today at 3 PM and we screened the first episode of Enterprise, which, to my great surprise was a really excellent series!  It is like based on the Star Trek story but given a totally modern slant!  and not Next Generation modern, but REALLY modern!  It reminded me of an Alien movie, or Battlestar Galactica, or Star Wars, which basically means it kicked butt! which means I am proud to announce that every Sunday at 3 PM we are going to be showing the newest episodes of Enterprise and other Trek inspired TV series or movies at the, wherelse, but the Brash Young Cinema (naks, plug na naman)  cheers!  so any of you trekkies, come on over or you can always go to the United Federation of Planets - Philippines website at http://ufpi.themall.ph/ or sign up at [email protected]

The ST: TMP Director's Edition DVD is on sale at Astro Robinson's Ermita at P550. It made me sorry I bought my copy at Hong Kong's HMV - for about P1,500! Darn.

Well, if you're a Trek freak, you must really have it.  Personally, I enjoyed TWOK and TVH more  ;D

I don't really remember the details of that story, either.  I only remember the ending (sort of), because of the speculations that that was how the borg came into being.

I am a Trek freak  ;D and this movie is one of my least favorites. But yes I have it for continuity reasons and Robert Wise did a good job of polishing and cutting what was once a mishmash of a movie.

Would just like to ask you guys which Trek is your favorite? Is it the Original, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine or Voyager.  What are your thoughts about their respective captains and crew? Maybe we should take a poll here to find out which is the best trek of all huh?!

So cast you opinions now . .  8)

The most popular Trek series is not necessarily the best.  We could probably determine the former through a poll, but not the latter.

While the movie is so-so, the second disk has a lot of special features. Commentaries, 3 behind-the-scenes featurettes, illustrations, etc.

Hmm.. I wonder if Archer gets to be less annoying this season.  He's cute, and he does have his inpired moments, but sometimes he just acts silly.

I also hope T'Pol found a remedy for her perpetual PMS.

Which would probably mean that Nemesis should probably be the last of the TNG movies.  Hmm.. wonder which crew will be put on the big screen next?

It seems Brent Spiner have had enough of playing Data so this definitely would be the last (depending also on the box office returns)

As far as a Voyager movie, what would you think would be the best plot for such an outing inasmuch as they have already returned from the Delta quadrant?

Hmm..  how about a plot that has to do with one of the Voyager[/i] TV episodes?  (Kind of like TOS's "Space Seed" and "ST II: The Wrath of Khan") Something they did in the Delta quadrant that has repercussions that go all the way to the Alpha quadrant.

Off the top of my head, I could think of "Threshold".  Janeway and Paris' offspring that they left on that planet achieve FTL travel and other yummy technological advancements (after all, they were supposed to be evolved from humans, right?) and threaten to take over the galaxy.

Think of the posibilities.  I can see Paris uttering the immortal line, "I am you FATHER!", but then that might be considered blasphemous  ;D

That's right. The 8PM show is three days older than the 12MN showing.

You can get an accurate schedule of what episodes are showing from The Hallmark Channel Philippines Site (http://ph.hallmarkchannel.com). Just move your mouse over STAR TREK: VOYAGER on the corresponding date and you get the episode title.  :)

It used to be better, though, since they used to put the episode number and a brief summary, as well, so it was easier to figure out if you wanted to see the episode.  :(

Star Trek: Nemesis is a return to form of sorts after the disaster that was Star Trek: Insurrection (which, in my opinion, is just a hyper-extended ST:NG TV episode).

I haven't seen all of the Star Trek movies but my absolute favorite is Star Trek: First Contact. Nemesis is now number two in my list of great ST films. My brother-in-law will lend me his Star Trek The Movie VCD tomorrow, my first time to watch this film.

I do wish a cable channel would start airing Star Trek: Enterprise -- I've been hearing a lot of positive feedback on this series.

I haven't seen all of the Star Trek movies but my absolute favorite is Star Trek: First Contact.

Friends have warned me off Insurrection but I do like First Contact. I might give nemesis a spin soon, di ko lang kasi gusto yung director (Stuart Baird), sana si Frakes na lang. Oh well.

Favorite Trek films: First Contact, Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home. The order changes every day. Someday, someday I will complete all the Captain Kirk Star Trek DVDs, still my prefered trek generation, tacky costumes notwithstanding. Gene Rodenberry couldn't write squat but the stuff his writers came up with during the first incarnation of the series was/is top. (Next Generation is pretty good, too, though.)

Star Trek: Voyager is an epiphany for me. I thought it would suck like most of the episodes from Deep Space Nine. But was I surprised. Some of the best Trek episodes are the ones I've seen from Voyager -- and Janeway is a cool captain. I like her more than the laidback Sisqo.

Wrath of Khan

Far behind runner ups: Undiscovered Country, Search for Spock, Voyage Home, Motion Picture, the Borg TV movie or special, whatever that was, and Generations.

Thas about it...

I've been monitoring the airing of Enterprise on RPN 9 pero wala pa rin, although the cable guides indicate na starting May meron na. Nagka-problema kaya sa rights?  ???

I also noticed that the better foreign shows on RPN are showing replays kahit bago pa lang (i.e., "Everwood"). I hope Studio 23 acquires "Enterprise" instead (and "Everwood" for that matter).

I heard that RPN-9 did a soft premier of Enterprise for the sponors and is rumored to do another one with a local Star Trek club. Dunno both network and club's timetable.

I think the problem of RPN-9 stems from the perceived lack of interest of there shows from viewers. If you've noticed a large portion of un-replayed shows are telenovelas that rarely go into reruns.

I hope the best of luck for Enterprise here. It looks like this "Trek" series is more to the liking of most Pinoys than the last Star Trek serieses.

I just saw Star Trek Nemesis today on DVD. It is better than Insurrection and I think when it comes to visuals it is the best among TNG Movies.

The biggest suprise and thrill for me was the [spoilers]appearance of Captain Janeway who is now an Admiral! That was very cool I just wish they have prolonged her appearance or made her come aboard the enterprise that could have been way cool![/spoilers]

Does it mean Voyager is up next in the silver screen, I hope they bypass Deep Space Nine that show is boring.

I love Captain Janeway I think Voyager's cast and characters are the most cohesive among Star Trek franchises, you can really feel that they became one family.

Give me Seven of Nine anytime -- in my opinion, the sexiest trek babe ever.

That is, until I see Jolene Blalock.  :)

Don't bash DS9 too much.. Season 4-7 is way better than Voyager.

Voyager had to contend with the Borg... DS9 had to contend with the Dominion.

As for Jolene Blalock... believe you me she's way way better than Jeri Ryan. Ryan has that motherly appeal that doesn't appeal to me. :)

Since it would be very tedious for me to do automated recording for later viewing, I may have to content myself with  copies recorded by other people till the dvds are made available.

The schedule of Enterprise on RPN 9 is not good for me.  Too early and it's on a friday night.  Normally, I watch it at Star World at 10PM.  But if I can I also watch Ch 9.

Konti lang ata ang mga trekkies dito?

Jologs ang Enterprise. Heard it'll be canceled this season and no amount of naked alien boobies can stop this from happening.

Are we witnessing the death of the Star Trek franchise? I'm sorry Mr. Roddenberry... Kids today just aren't interested anymore :(
Title: Re: Star Trek Enterprise on RPN9

How do I put this delicately and comprehensively. When Roddenberry died marked the decline of Star Trek. Those who took over havent a clue to what they were doing. The first two series had relevance to our lives and had fresh ideas, inspired writing and good (to watch) acting. People dont care to watch Enterprise anymore as there are alternatives that are relevant to their lifestyle.
Title: Star Trek: Enterprise - CANCELLED
Post by: Mr. Hankey on Feb 03, 2005 at 09:05 PM
Well, the Star Trek television franchise is currently dead, for the time being:

From SciFi.Com (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.php?id=30302)

UPN Cancels Enterprise

UPN and Paramount Network Television jointly announced Feb. 2 that its low-rated Star Trek: Enterprise has been canceled after four seasons. "This will be the final season of Star Trek: Enterprise on UPN," the companies said. The series finale will air on May 13. When Star Trek: Enterprise ends its run, it will mark the first time since 1987 that no new Trek series will appear on the air.

Enterprise becomes the first Trek series to end prematurely since the original Star Trek aired on NBC in the 1960s. All previous Trek spinoff series, including The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, have completed seven-season runs.

This year, new executive producer Manny Coto re-energized Enterprise's storylines with episodes that hearkened back to the original series. Last year, the series attempted an ambitious season-long story arc centering on the hunt for the Xindi.

UPN said that the prequel series will have produced a total of 98 episodes. The early cancellation announcement presumably allows producers to write and produce a series finale.

Anyone think another new series can start up in a few years?

Although I didn't like it at first, extended viewing has convinced me that DS9 is the most well-written out of all the Star Trek's, probably to compete with the also-excellent Babylon 5.  Characterization is slow and steady, but the arcs are large (although not as large as B5).  The characters themselves are noble but imperfect, making them easy to misunderstand but sympathize with at the same time.

And what's irrelevant about Enterprise?  It's got sexual innuendo, nude aliens, wise-cracking aliens, a theme song that Five For Fighting will probably remake, and scriptwriting gems worthy of Xena ("I think he likes you pink skin!").  What else could viewers nowadays want?  Enterprise = Deep Space 90210.

Still waiting for my advance copies of the Enterprise Episodes here in Manila and see what happens on the fourth season. May Enterprise pa ba sa Star World?

Just when it started to get interesting.  :( :(

On a different topic, I paid to watch the Star Trek attraction at the Las Vegas Hilton. Took the Klingon ride for the second time (saw it already years ago) and watched the new attraction involving the Borg. Mas enjoy pa rin ako dun sa Klingon ride.

Also observed that there are very few ST dvds on sale at the stores. Wala tuloy ako nabili. Super mahal kasi yung mga complete season discs! Mabigat pa baka ma-excess baggage ako pauwi.

I'm getting my episodes by Saturday afternoon.  O0 Enterprise leaving the air, now that's something I have mixed feelings about. I like the last season. Wish they started from there instead of the Hunt of Temporal Al Quida.

'Star Trek's' Doohan dies, immortalized for 'Beam me up, Scotty'

James Doohan, the burly chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise in the original "Star Trek" TV series and motion pictures who responded to the command "Beam me up, Scotty," died early Wednesday. He was 85.

Doohan died at 5:30 a.m. at his Redmond, Wash., home with his wife of 28 years, Wende, at his side, Los Angeles agent and longtime friend Steve Stevens said. The cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease, he said.
