I'm still pretty new at this DVD thing so please pardon me if I seem ignorant at times. What is this Region 0 DVDs and how are they different from All Regions DVDs? Thanks! ???
-
Komikero, one word: PIRATED! ;D
-
what i know is Region 0 DVDs = All Region DVDs
-
i do not think that if a dvd is coded region 0 that it is pirated.
i have alot of jet li dvd's that where produced by tai seng and they are legit copies but with region 0 coding....
the reason to this is for the Chinese to broaden their market so they can sell to any region
and i personally feel that the Phil. should also adopt this concept so they do not have to have 2 pressings if they want to sell to Filipinos here in the states or to other countries.
i've heard that the region coding was mostly lobbied by the big studio's here in the states so they can control dvd's being exported to other countries where the movies have not yet been released in the local theaters.

I do have a couple of legit DVDs myself that are coded "0" or all regions. That was why I was curious. One is a horror movie from Anchor Bay, and the other is "Kronos", released by Image Entertainment, which I both ordered from Amazon.
I hear most legit X rated movies are coded "0" as well.
-
I guess I stand corrected then. I always associated R0 discs with piracy. Thanks for pointing that out to me guys.
-
In fact the 1st pressing of samurai critrion collection was also region 0 (criterion goofed on that), but it was rereleased with the corrected region coding
and yeah almost all xxx rated dvd's are region free!
-
There are many European release DVDs that are Region 0 but the format is PAL. I guess you can watch them with any DVD player but I'm not sure if you also need a multi-system TV for it.

Hi guys! I'm very new in the world of DVD and haven't got a DVD player myself. I'm carefully weighing my options as to what my firt DVD player would be by reading and evaluating recommendations from this forum.
Anyway, my query would be, I have got hold of this DVD disc and in the region code, it says "ALL". What does this mean? Does it mean it would play on all DVD players (e.g., R1 locked player)? Are DVD disc supposed to be sold this way? Akala ko region locked (ex R3) ang mga DVD disc. pls advice. thanks guys!
Yep, it can be played on all players. Some DVDs are manufactured without region coding (Samplers, etc. ).
hi artsky,
like you, I'm also just new in this DVD thing... I'd say the first DVD you buy should be a movie you've always loved since "first's" are always special... seeing it on DVD would make you love it more, although in my case it's different since I've bought a TV series which I haven't even watched before... but seeing it on DVD, with its clear sound and picture, made the show one of my favorites :D... or if you want something that will really make you say, "this is really, really DVD! 8)", I'd say you buy one of those hi-tech, special effects filled, deafening, blinding movies... ;D say action flicks like Matrix, or T2, or gladiator, or one of those best-DVD-award stuff like that... like Shrek or is it Toy Story ???
as for the DVD disc you've got which says all region... it's either original (there are some DVDs which are allregion but mostly anime's, demo discs, but about 90% surely not movies), or most likely, it is a pirated one :o like those sold in Virramall...
oh, :o but on second thought, even most of the pirated ones are labelled Region 1, or R2, or R3, like copied from the original ones... maybe the one you're holding is an orig demo discs, or a pirated movie DVD
Kiluminati2 8)
No. Not all pirated dvds are region free.
-
Some pirated disc are exact replica of Region 1 dvds na pati yung regional coding eh "1" din.
-
what about those Region5 or Region9? Aren't these pirated disks?
-
I hear most legit X rated movies are coded "0" as well.
Yes indeed, Vivid production mostly leads this promo on their products.
But take note, that not all region0 in Adult DVDs (Or evenin DVDs) are ok, some producers like Wicked Films and Metro Films (Adult Video companies) have "Macrovision Copy Protect" on their product
As for Pinoy DVDs (Those which were under Viva Films)
are also region 0.
Note: Fraudulent yung nakalagay sa Viva DVD labels stating that it is region3! Once you open it the disc's label is "ALL"

my DMB Listener Supported, and DMB Videos DVDs, from the USA are likewise region coding free. for sure, those aren't pirated. :)
-
region ALL? diba hindi naman pirated yan? nakasulat yang REGION ALL sa likod ng PS2 na box diba? and sabi pa nga sa likod ng PS2 na box "only symbols with Region 1 and Region ALL works with PS2 consoles" pano naging pirated yun?

Agree with you Battousai1.
But take note, even if it is region ALL then it is a PAL-Secam DVD it still wont play unless you have a multisystem TV.
FYI only :)
-
are all region-free dvds illegal? i checked the dvd faq and i probably missed the answer there.
-
No, not necessarily. DVD releases that are not distributed by the major US and European companies tend to ignore region coding. Case in point are most HK, Korean, and Pinoy releases -- Region-free and Macrovision-free.
This has been discussed before, by the way. Let me try to find the thread for you.

thanks for the info.

I bought an IMAX (Mystery of the Mayas) DVD and I discovered that it is region ZERO. I bought it on an on-line store in the US. Thus its up to the company to release a DVD in certain region format.. depending on the best financial return.

I have an Omega Code DVD bought from US which is All Region

LEGAL! most documentaries and adult dvds are region free. even pinoy dvds are region 0 and they are sold in legit video stores, right?
-
DVDs sold by A&E Network (Biography, History channels)
This DVD is one of the many titles in our DVD Library and is created in the DVD+R format. This disc does not feature menu pages or special features like standard DVDs, simply the high quality programming you've come to expect from us. Click here for more details.
DVD+R format. how do you classify this. is it still region 0?

Yung High Risk (Philippine title ng Gorgeous) at New Police Story, both Jackie Chan films, parehong Region All. :)
Yung Disc 2 ng My Sassy Girl Director's Cut DVD Region 0 rin. Hindi kasi mabasa yung movie disc sa DVD player ng pinsan ko, pero yung special features nabasa. Region ek-ek daw.
region ALL? diba hindi naman pirated yan? nakasulat yang REGION ALL sa likod ng PS2 na box diba? and sabi pa nga sa likod ng PS2 na box "only symbols with Region 1 and Region ALL works with PS2 consoles" pano naging pirated yun?
Sa PS2 nakalagay dun
"NTSC/U-C" <==US
"NTSC/J" <==Japan
"NSTC/PAL" <==Europe
