Title: Grey's Anatomy
Post by: sungit on Aug 11, 2005 at 09:06 AM
I'm absolutely hooked on this show! I think it's a great mix of Scrubs and ER (and thankfully lacks the melodramatics of Chicago Hope). The cast is great -- Sandra Oh (yey! she has a post-Sideaways career), Katherine Heigle, and best of all, THE Patrick Dempsey. Who's hotter than ever. Anyway, great show!

Grey's Anatomy currently ranks #6. Beating Lost and Desperate Housewives in the ratings game. Although they come from the same network. I'm enjoying this show so much. It's like Ally McBeal rin although the "crazy" is toned down.  ;D

The Season 2 DVD will contain 3 episodes "with footage deemed too hot for television." Hmmm...

I'd get more excited, but that's also what they said about the DVD for Season 1 of Desperate Housewives, and there wasn't anything even remotely hot in the additional footage.

The DVD will be released (R1) on September 12.

Another newbie question:

9 episodes lang ba talaga ang season 1? According to Amazon.com, 9 episodes lang (or is this a promotional DVD and not the Complete Season just like when they released Smallville pilot episode on DVD?).

Yes, it was a mid-season replacement show, so it only has 9 episodes.

Just found out that Isaiah Washington was a late replacement of Paul Adelstein for the role of Dr. Burke. Adelstein is the actor who plays the villainous agent who pursues the caged brothers in Prison Break.

Well, he got to play doctor in a recent Scrubs episode....(Season 5 Episode 22 I think).

Scrubs in another recent episode had this banter between JD and Elliot  in referrence to Grey's Anatomy ---

JD: I'll stay home and watch ourselves on Grey's Anatomy
Elliot: I love that show!!!

^ parang ganun yung dialogue ni JD/Elliot. Not the exact dialogue. ;D

Grey's Anatomy referrence to Scrubs in a recent episode (Season 2, Episode 24 aired just last Sunday in the US) --- when Christina called O'Malley BAMBI...which, if you're watching both shows, you'd know BAMBI is JD's pet name on Scrubs. :)

This line was uttered in GA's last episode and it just had me laughing very, very hard:  (Elderly patient to Alex) ----" I have no underwear on, and I don't want you looking at my good girl." ---> Fantastic! ;D

Wasn't there an episode where the nurses staged a strike? I don't know if it's only me but I'm losing affection for Izzie because of Denny. Even if Alex were a jerk, he did not deserve the brush off.

Who do you think, among the interns, will leave the program? I thought it'd be Karev but he redeemed himself last week. After that cuddling moment, it might be Izzie. I loved Izzie before Denny came along. I hope it means s/he doesn't have to leave the show, just the program.

Yup! However, it doesn't matter who or what you are... if one sleeps around, especially if its "unprotected", he/she is bound to get it. The one thing about STDs is that it knows NO title, No borders, No social class, No financial status. I guess that's what this episode wants to point out.

Yup. I agree....Grey's do show the dilemmas interns and residents constantly face on their job....moral and ethical....love and sexual....That's what good about this show...one scene shows you the serious and oftentimes sad side...., and then another, the funny, and sometimes hilarious part.  Sometimes you gush when it shows the romantic side....but most of the time, you're really entertained.  Then already glued.  If you're gonna follow this once a week in its regular programming...mabibitin ka!! ;D ;D

Waaaaahhhhh  :'( :'( What am i to do for the next 4 months!!!  Dunno if its separation anxiety or withdrawal syndrome.

The last installment of the finale, aptly entitled Losing my Religion, sure beats the superbowl episode by leaps and bounds. I can't wait for season 3!! Although deep down i know a Mer/Der ending is as inevitable as Denny's storyline, i am so hoping that She-Shepard aka McHot can finally be truly happy.

Just like Miss cruzac[k]H... when i grow up, i wanna be like she-shepard.

No prob, Garfield. My sis didn't see it too so I had to ask other Grey's fans if they still have a copy. Good thing Star World airs the previous episodes so we could cope with the withdrawal symptoms. The second season have really turned Izzie around. I used to love her character until Denny came along. I don't mind him as a character in the series but I don't like the effect he causes in Izzie. The actor who plays him, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, also plays Mary Louise Parker's dead husband in Weeds and the dad in Supernatural. He is more tolerable in these shows.  ;D
Title: Re: Grey's Anatomy
Post by: garfield_3199 on Jun 01, 2006 at 06:12 PM

The reruns on Star World plus the "you know whats" from the net help me get my O'Malley/Mc Dreamy fix for the day. That plus my Elliott videos...completo na!  ;D  I also like the actor playing Denny and the  character but then I think what happened to Izzie is actually her own undoing. I still can't figure out if she really loves Denny or she just feels and act that way because she desperately wants to be loved and be loved by a good man. Denny just can't say No to Izzie. Too bad...

i'm on my episode 3 of season 2! i could say that season 2 is very much engaging! season 1 was more like an introduction to the characters.  twas good! but season 2 is better! the storyline is tighter and the script is wittier! and my oh my! episode 3 is heart-wrenching!  it's starting to feel like "e.r." now -- attached and emotional without being cheesy.

Hello.

I don't have cable at home, so it wasn't till last night, at studio23, that I saw the pilot episode of Grey's Anatomy.

I thought it was quite good.  And I can't remember the last time I've seen such chemistry on tv as that of Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo.

I'm not reading the earlier posts in this thread for fear of spoilers on the 1st and 2nd season.

For those who've followed the series, are the succeeding episodes good?  One review described the show as "House" with the hormones of "Dawson's Creek."

Still, I'm eagerly awaiting the third season.

Yes, the series is good!  Watch the first season for the characters' introduction.  On season two, you'll truly get hooked from the 1st ep to the 27th!  Each episode has something to offer!  If you watch it on DVD, you can't stop till you reach the end!

Just started watching this series and man I am too hooked.  A cool drama about surgery residency training.  Enjoyed watching this specially with me also in the medical field who underwent the same experiences...I can relate .  Patrick Dempsey was lost from showbiz for sometime after being a teenage hearthrob with movies like Can't Buy Me Love and Coupe de Ville.  Now he's a brain surgeon in this series linked to that oh so smart and lovely Meredith.  Izzy is a real fox without a sex life though.  I just dunno if this would be appealing with the general viewing public because of the medical jargon.  Guess if ER was a hit then maybe this one would be appealing for everyone.   ;D

I just dunno if surgical interns perform 2D Echos to their patient which is practically the job of a cardiologist....  In the hospitals I've been, they don't :P

At first, Meredith's lisp/hoarse voice was kinda cute and sexy but later on it was beginning to be irritating. I like her eyes though specially when wearing a surgical mask.  ;D  Episode 12 of Season 1 was really cool!  Had me looked at Meredith very highly.  Alex's and Izzie's scene was a great twist although too soon.  Maybe it's the thought of danger that heightens our libidos... :o

my wife and i are also hooked on this. every night in bed, just b4 sleeping we watch (in my notebook ) 1 or 2 episodes of the whole series that my officemate downloaded (3 dvdr's). laging puyat tuloy kahit may pasok kinabukasan.  i think nasa ep18 na yata kami, more to go. pag may term kaming 'di naiintindihan, pause then google the term :).

This is where Grey's Anatomy becomes confusing.

FYI, the original Season 1 ended on Episode 9 but it got picked up early.  At the start of Season 2, the first 4 episodes are actually Episodes 10-13 of Season 1 (as you know most "pilot" usually last 13 episodes or half a season), then they continued with the real Season 2 Episode 1 all the way up to Episode 23.

Numerology gets jumbled up.  In real time, Season 2 Episode 1 is Season 1 Episode 10.  In their numbering Season 2 Episode 1 aired as the fourth episode in season 2  ???.  You can see this at TV.com - they have a column in their chart showing the internal numbers.

That's why we get this question of ynreh in almost all places.    :D   I downloaded this  through torrents, and I must have download some episodes 4 or 5 times to get the correct episode to complete the collection.

i guess we could still say that it is still season 2 since the dvd only has 9 episodes. even its official site on abc has "raindrops" for ep1 season 2.  unlike prison break w/c ended its 13th ep in november 2005 and continued in march 2006 with the 14th. counted as season 1 till ep22.

Re: Ellen Pompeo (Meredith). Watching her in Punk'd (Youtube.com) was kinda painful, she was really b#tchy.  I sincerely believed her when she said that she was going to stab the waitress with the fork.  Must be the stress of filming the series or the ill-effects of fame.

Re: Her Meredith's attachment to the dog.  The writers were trying to create a "metaphor" of sorts where Meredith displaces her feelings for McDreamy towards the dog, thus, you have lines like, "I only had *him* for a little while, but I became so attached to it..." or something like that....

Izzie is an excellent actress in the tube cutting episode. That was powerhouse acting.

George pala is the Set-clown (as opposed to class clown).

I actually just started watching this with the arrival of my Season 2 DVD last week.

From a doctor's point of view, I cannot relate to interns challenging their senior residents and even their attendings the way this group does. Maybe they're more bastos in the States, but speaking to your consultants that way would never happen in this country. You'd get fired on the spot.

From a couch potato's point of view, it's an engaging soap opera, but I feel its writing/creative staff is way too female. Much like Sex and the City, I go into estrogen overload after 3 or 4 episodes, and have to sneak in an episode of The Man Show so my testosterone levels can revert to normal.  ;D

From a Katherine Heigl watcher's point of view, it's funny seeing her still playing a character named "Iso(a)bel" and having something going on with someone named "Alex." I half expect to see her brother "Max" walk in at any time.

From a reality TV junkie's point of view, I just can't get over the fact that the bartender/bar owner is My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancee. O0

At last! That's exactly how I feel when watching this show. It's good, but not great for me. I don't even like the lead characters--Meredith Grey annoys me to no end, like she's some neurotic, whiny beyotch. Don't like Ellen Pompeo's face either. And Macdreamy? MacWeenie is more like it. Best characters are the supporting ones: Bailey, Izzie, and Christina.

If you believe the rumors about this show regarding the cast starting to hate the producers, I don't think this show will last beyond 4 years...

I may be the only one (considering it drew a monster audience, finally beating CSI for no. 1 on a Thursday) but I was disappointed with the premiere. I heard it was not meant to be the one. Rumor has it that the network execs asked Shonda Rimes to write that episode to refresh the viewers' memories. The second episode was reportedly better.

Thoughts on the premiere:

As much as I look forward to seeing flashbacks a la Lost, almost all of them were unnecessary since they did not move the narrative any further.

Bailey was so out of character. Where are her balls? I guess Steve Harris (The Practice) did not want anything to do with the show (after that maudlin scene with Bailey) since his name was not even on the credits.

How was the teenage [sic] pregnancy concealed from the parents and the school?

Most of the dramatic scenes rang false. Rimes had set up a couple of interesting premises but failed in their execution. I hope this does not bode for a slump since it just brought down the might of the crime procedural drama. If this trend continues, the viewers it just attracted might start withering away. ABC has a history of failing to deliver in succeeding seasons of their recent hit shows: Lost and Desperate Housewives.

I'm tuning in for the next episode since I saw a glimmer of hope after a more emotionally resonant final scene. Cristina asking Burke not to die. Izzie finally getting up and saying she's ready. And, Snow Patrol looks like it'll have another hit in Running on Sunshine.

There are a lot of inconsistencies if you watch this show from a doctor's perspective. (Ever wondered why a pediatric surgeon like Addie handles all the OB cases? Wala bang OB-Gyn do'n?). Just watch this for the great drama, musical score and funny moments.

Is she a pediatric surgeon on the show? I always assumed she was an OB-GYN with a Perinatology subspec (like PCMC's Dra. Corazon Yabes-Almirante), since that would make a bit more sense.

I also noticed: they always say that Derek Shepherd is one of the best in his field, but if you watch the show, he seems to have an exceptionally high intra-operative mortality rate. And let's not forget his post op morbidities - like Preston's current tremor.

I wouldn't trust him if I had a brain tumor...  ;D

Grey's Anatomy T.R. Knight is gay, he has confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE.

"I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I'd like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there," Knight tells PEOPLE in a statement. "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me."

Knight, 33, plays the unassuming Dr. George O'Malley on the hit ABC drama. A Minneapolis native, he began his career in that city's famed Guthrie Theater.

He has also appeared on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Looks like the offscreen antics of the Grey's Anatomy cast is getting more interesting than the show itself. The current buzz is that producers are planning on replacing troublemaker Isaiah Washington, who seems to be picking fights with his costars every week, first almost coming to blows with Patrick Dempsey on the set, and recently making homophobic comments against T.R. Knight.

Is it just me or do you notice that Season 3 is a lot better than the 1st 2 seasons? The 2nd season only picked up in the middle, starting with the bomb episode all the way to Denny's demise.

This season, it just keeps getting better every episode. I thought the death of Georgie's Dad (Ep 12) was the highlight, but the last two episodes were even better with all the twists, proposals, marriage, etc.

Nazi's and Addie's character development --- I'm not liking where it's heading. They're strong women and their characters are becoming lamer.

Pero I still watch, of course. ;D Not on the verge of quitting.

Same here. I find the third season treading on Melrose Place territory. I thought the series went downhill as Denny was about to die. I never thought I'd hate Izzie's character but the writers sure made me after that. The writing improved a bit during the two-parter sometime ago but I don't think it was at par with the first two seasons. I have to admit after her disastrous SAG speech, Ellen Pompeo redeemed herself last week (maybe Kate Burton brings out the best in her). That episode proves why the show is named after her. Bailey and Addison are the only characters left I root for as well and it's sad that the show is gunning to take them down next.

Still watching too but not as eager as before. Usually I just scout for some good music in every episode. Wait, this show has just become something I listen to rather than watch.  ;D

i actually agree with you on addie's development... i'm not feeling her current attraction to **ahem**. but the dialogue just feels sharper this season... at least for me it is... maybe it's just that they've found some of the character's "voices". maybe...

also, they're not using mark sloane enough... he's like this beautiful fixture that just stands in the corner... what a waste of a character that can, if they choose to, stir things up at SGH.

Is Meredith Grey dead?

Haha. Nice question Munskie. But the start of that episode says it all. Her "knight in shining whatever" saves her from drowning in the bath tub. Expect him to do it again, this time by diving into sea  ;D

I can't wait for the continuation tomorrow.

Now that the show is jumping too many sharks, (http://weblogs.newsday.com/entertainment/tv/blog/2007/02/diane_werts_greys_shark_sighti.html) it's a good thing Addison is getting spun off (http://news.yahoo.com/s/eonline/20070221/en_tv_eo/b7ecdca90f76_4416_ab0c_6f46e62adbe3).

Yup. Grey is dead, but it's the other Grey and not Meredith. Poor Richard Webber: he wasn't able to say goodbye because he was with Meredith all the time.

By the way, there's no new episode next week. The website indicates it will be a replay on March 1.

It was a pretty good season premiere, IMHO. I suppose it helped that my expectations were lowered. I didn't like Izzy's plot line, but I found the other stories quite engaging. I was pleasantly surprised, since I had actually given up on this show already.

I wish I could say the same about Private Practice. It's the opposite in this case - I had high hopes for the show, and it really didn't live up to my expectations. It feels too much like a Lifetime drama, and a very poorly written one, at that. I wonder if Kate Walsh has a "return to Grey's Anatomy in case of failure" clause in her contract - the opening sequence seemed to imply that.

It would be a shame if Private Practice fails, though, since this show has a very stellar cast - good television pedigrees all around. I'd say it's the second best TV cast at present - Brothers & Sisters is an easy first. I wonder why they replaced the actress who played Addison's best friend/Taye Diggs' ex-wife on the Grey's episode last year. I like the new girl, but from the get-go, the change already bothered me, and maybe placed me in a different mood.

I gave up on this show after Season 2, and there' s no way I'm ever going back. Never liked Pompeo and Dempsey, and all their pa-cute antics were getting tiresome. Looks like Emmy voters agreed as well, and shut them out of the major acting nominations.

I'm obviously in the minority, as millions still love the show's formulaic drama, but I was extremely surprised when aging C.S.I. trounced Grey's new season premiere in the ratings recently--Seriously.  :o  ;D

Haven't watched Season 4 yet, but it seems it was cut short because of the strike and will end with 11 episodes. I'm afraid other shows will follow...

Exactly. Their love issues are really old too. The writing style is also old. Example. Two people talking about their separate issues, taking turns. Or a patient's life situation, teaches the doctors a lesson regarding their own situations. If it were not for the curiosity to know how this ends, I would have ditched this a long time ago. This show really needs to end.
