Title: Now Open: PinoyDVD Online Store
Post by: firewired on Apr 23, 2006 at 07:43 AM
It's not really part of the community since only the name and likeness were licensed, but we contributed a LOT to the information architecture and navigation of the site since we're avid online shoppers.

Only the Philippine site is operational right now but medium-term plans include HK and Korean storefronts. Negotiations are still ongoing so keep your fingers crossed.

MC and Visa cards are accepted through a secure HK gateway but billed in Php through one of the local banks. Pretty nifty. Shipping is via Air2100 (local) and FedEx (international). GCash and mol (mobius online) payments coming soon.

If you'd like to be part of the beta program for the online store please PM me. Soft launch is in May.

Cool! Congrats on the licensing fees. May we know if this is affiliated with any shops/companies we'd be familiar with?

Whoops. This isn't a PM.  ;D

Nope, no affiliations. It's an independent effort. Target buyers are OFWs who want to order DVDs for themselves or order for their relatives here. Local residents can easily shop online as well.

Since the Philippine storefront is OMB registered, it will source stock from the local distributors. No other region or limited editions will be available -- at least for now. Pricing will be standard but promo titles and shipping discounts will be available from time to time.

Since no Astroplus/vision has complete stock (Even Podium doesn't have some titles I found in other Astro), an online store could literally have all the current releases in stock as long as there are in the distributor's inventory...  beats shop hopping for those hard-to-find titles...sweet...

Sana in the future, they could act like e-2-door for R1 releases...then again, does local laws allow such parallel importations?
Title: Re: Soon: PinoyDVD Online Store
Post by: firewired on May 03, 2006 at 11:15 AM
Nope, no parallel imports allowed unfortunately. The online store won't have all the titles available initially. The distribs aren't realtime so it's hard to commit stock that may not be there after all.

Sorry, still recovering from a serious bout with the flu last week. Was ordered by the doctor to stay in bed for 5 days so that pretty much killed my online social life.  ;D

Anyway, beta access is open tonight. Will start PMing you guys later this afternoon with your log-in information.

Should've gotten a second opinion. I know a doctor who would've recommended that you to stay in front of computer for 5 days, instead.  ;D

Beta access will be fully functional - payments securely accepted already? Looking forward to it. Good luck and congrats again on this new venture.

Quick Comments:

1. The current selection is pretty small, and seems limited to Warner R3's?

2. The Television titles lay-out would be more attractive if the seasons appeared chronologically on the page, and perhaps were labelled uniformly? (For example: Smallville has some seasons listed as "The Complete Nth Season" while other listed as "Season N DVD Boxset")

3. It seems a bit more expensive? Before Sunrise/Sunset have been listed as currently selling for Php 275 each on these forums, but the price for these titles at pinoydvd.biz is listed as Php 483.64?

Thank you for joining our beta group and visiting the site, Mr. Hankey. We are still entering more titles into our catalog and negotiating terms with other distributors. Warner's selection on PinoyDVD is about 700 titles.
- We are still revising title entries because distributors are not consistent on their end as well when cataloging titles. We are aware of disparities in the entries including problems with genre classification.
- Prices are not final as well because Warner is bringing them down across the board and we will update as soon as we receive complete listing. The retail stores are adjusting by batches but we will do one big update.

Thanks again for visiting!

Is it too late to join the beta program?  If not, count me in.

Hope that G-Cash and other payment options will be available soon, if the store is to succeed, it would need those to be accessible to the masses.   And often times, there's a reluctance to use credit card online...  so G-cash, Debit Cards, and perhaps COD, could expand the reach of the store...

Hello. The whole store can be browsed even by non members. Perhaps there is a problem with the connection? May I know what your ISP is so we can try to duplicate the issue? We have been experiencing difficulty reaching some sites today using PLDT DSL but our Innove connection is unaffected. Our servers are based in Texas. We chatted with our technical support specialist there and he said everything's ok on their end.

Yes right now our stock is all from Warner. They are highly automated so it was ideal to integrate with their system. We are in the process of negotiating commercial terms with Magnavision and Viva. We hope to carry them soon along with the other distributors.

By the way, "Syriana" is now available. If you order tonight or first thing tomorrow morning, we will expedite delivery to Manila addresses on Thursday.

Great site. I just wish there was a huge sale (lower than Astro prices) to serve as a grand launching/opening! Since there's an Astrovision store in almost all malls where most people pass by on their way to and from work, maybe few will avail of this site where you have to use your credit card, then wait for 1 to 2 days to get the DVD, with the same price (actually plus P55 pa). Right now, the only benefit I see is that I saw some hard to find Warner titles in the website such as Superman I (naubos na to sa Astro coz of the Superman Returns hype), Iron Giant, and City of Angels. Anyway, good luck and more power! I hope I can buy from this site soon once my funds are available.
Title: Re: Now Open: PinoyDVD Online Store
Post by: randyv on Jul 19, 2006 at 05:34 PM
1) About sales, we will definitely have them to coincide with Ortigas or Ayala weekend events.

2) The credit card scanning or attached photo for verification is an agreement between our payment gateway and our customer support for security purposes. Unfortunately the Philippines is still tagged as a high risk area when it comes to online transactions. The extra step is meant to protect local credit card holders from unauthorized use of their cards. It is admittedly inconvenient but our situation requires it for now.

3) We are not really competing directly with stores in malls like AstroVision but if gas keeps going up perhaps we will be a viable option.  Our long term goal is to be able to address DVD needs of collectors who are located in areas and provinces with no easy access to retailers.

Thanks for your comments!

browsed the site yesterday and i noticed one thing in the front page ad, it was mentioned that international orders will be available by the end of the year.  query:  dont know if i read into this right, does that mean r1 dvds (or for that matter, r2, 3, etc.) will be available later this year or pinoys abroad can start ordering from the site?  a clarification would be greatly appreciated.

I think I'll buy my local R3s here instead of the malls... as mentioned, with the prices of gasoline and with parking fees averaging P40, purchasing here would be cheaper... plus, minsan nakakahilo maghanap ng titles sa shelves ng Astro and other video stores eh...  ;)

Post by: firewired on Jul 21, 2006 at 08:10 AM
Randy hasn't had time to visit so I'll answer the last couple of questions for him:

Non-R3 titles. No plans at the moment since this will mean establishing distributor relationships in Region 1 (for example) plus warehousing and logistics facilities in either Canada or the US. The studios will not ship R1 in wholesale to Asia since this violates their territorial agreements.

Will we ever see Korean language and Chinese language R3 releases? Possibly.

Shipping abroad."International arrangements" refers to PinoyDVD.biz's export relationship with FedEx plus enabling the site itself to access foreign shipping databases. So yes, Pinoys (and non-Pinoys) should be able to place orders towards the end of the year. They can actually do this now but ship only to local addresses which is convenient for gift-giving.

Hello. I noticed that pinoydvd members regularly refer to the online store for the release date of upcoming titles.  While we appreciate the visits,  I must stress that the all dates are considered  tentative and based on estimated release dates of the distributors.  As in the case of "V for Vendetta", Warner has pushed back the date several times due to circumstances beyond their control.  I explained this to Firewired as well. Hopefully, the updated release date of Aug 2 can be considered final.

For those who intend to order "V for Vendetta" from us, i suggest you register now to avoid any delays.  The policy of the store is to process orders of upcoming titles one day prior to the release date.  This will ensure that customers from key cities like Manila, Cebu, Davao and others will receive their orders on the official day of the release.

Stocks are limited for this release but we are doing our best to procure as many copies as possible.

Suggestion lang po, Sir Randy.  Would it be possible in the future to accept advance orders even weeks before the scheduled release?  This way, you will be able to anticipate or plan your order of a certain title from the distributor.  Thanks and looking forward to ordering online again.  Hope that negotiations will other distributors will push through.   :)

Just got word from my house that my order of V for Vendetta already arrived at about 11:00AM, considering that I just ordered a little more than 24 hours ago.  I'm very impressed with the service.   ;D ;D  Hope this continues...   :)

Also got the following email from [email protected]:

Dear xxxxxxxxxxx,

We erroneously posted the price of V for Vendetta.  The price of the DE version should have been P650 instead of P599 (Price of the 2-disc SE version).  We have already corrected the pricing error in our site.

Now the good news! We will honor the original price that you paid for V for Vendetta.  We have already processed your order and are just awaiting the pickup by the courier.

Enjoy watching your DVD. Hope to see you again.

Thank you,

PinoyDVD Support

Thanks pinoydvd for the buena-mano!  Akala ko, promo price 'yung P599 kasi biglang nagbago to P650.   ;D

i was supposed to order 5 titles, however i chose not to proceed with my transaction since they required me to fax or scan my credit card and a valid ID. I believe they can find other more seemless methods to verify or validate the user/cardholder.

the best local e-commerce experience that i've had was with www.islandrose.net, which i think uses a multiple point system to try and identify fraud.
i assumed that the process was the same here since they also use yespayments to facilitate the credit card transaction.

it (pinoydvd.biz) is pretty good though, but not enough for a freak like me! :) (or baka nataon lang na tamad ako mag fax/scan ngayun) :)

I understand your apprehension.  I too was hesitant at first.  For you peace of mind, they only want to verify if your card really existed and that you sir do exist as well.   ;D  Ako nga I just took pics of my card as well as my Driver's License via cell phone and attached it to the e-mail I sent.  Medyo malabo pa nga siya eh.  The Credit Card no. was not that really readable.  But ang maliwanag is the pic of the card and my name clearly stated on the card as well as the license.  And that is all it took.

I have ordered from the site already and frankly you are really missing out on the kind of service they provide.  Very fast and convenient.  You don't need naman to scan the back part of your card which is actually the most important deal.  During payment naman, the site asks you to input the 4digit info at the back of you card where your signature is located.  Now this in not known to the site admin.  So I believe it is very effective.  Even if your card number is readable, no one can still use it as they would certianly need the 4-digit info at the back of the card in order for them to proceed.

You don't need to scan it.  Kahit pic lang fomr your fone will do.  Sayang!!!  You don't need to go to the mall to buy your Warner title.  It's in your house on the official date of release.  Kasi they take orders a day before.  And it arrived in my house around 10am.

i know their reason for getting  fax/scan copy of the credit card and id is valid, but what i'm suggesting is a seemless and better method for e-commerce, which i think is also done by yespayments with other sites (e.g. islandrose). i don't see the point why the same couldn't be done with pinoydvd.biz.

i know their service is good but again it can be better or even great if they just implement  the nitty gritty comments of consumers/clients. But for a month old system, it's pretty good!

and besides i know for sure that their online security is good enough (probably 3-des encryption). but would you email a scanned copy of your credit card? that's not at all safe for me! yes you may erase the numbers (for those who know photoshop) but that again is another step to hassle clients, wherein fact the very reason they want to shop online is to avoid inconveniences.

just my 2 cents worth.

still i give my cheers and praises to pinoydvd.biz, for reponding to my concern via email this morning. the online shop is really good! service according to most here is excellent. and  as experienced, customer support is superb! they're just a few steps away! but for sure they'll get there.    :)

And it arrived in my house around 10am.

did the same thing. took a picture of my CC and my SSS card using my camera phone. and hazy din yung pic. as a precaution i blocked out my CC # except the last 3 digits. basta readable lang yung full name and the expiry date.

purchased a couple of titles yesterday morning, the dvds arrived at exactly 12:30pm today. super fast talaga ang transaction. free shipping pa.  ;D ;D ;D

There'll be a major announcement next week regarding an additional payment method.

Credit card verification process won't change unfortunately. It's not a technical limitation of the system but a process issue given the type of product that's being sold. Fraud isn't really a problem with flower shops but it's a big headache for DVD and consumer electronics vendors worldwide hence the decision to take a more conservative approach.

No exclusivity but since PinoyDVD.biz ships directly from the warehouse, it seems that way especially for non-blockbuster releases which are last priority for retail stores.

any update on the new payment scheme?

Yup, Megalink/Port testing is underway. Should be fully activated by early next week.

When the free shipping promo ended last 30 Aug 2006, we actually came up with a permanent free shipping policy for orders P3000 and beyond.  This policy has been in place since Sep 1.  We  just didn't announce it then.  The "official" announcement, though, would be made in one of our subsequent newsletters.

Not to worry, the P3000 free shipping is a permanent policy now.  But from time to time, we will come up with special promos that will make online shopping sa .Biz more interesting.

On Magna, we are currently building up our catalog with their titles by anywhere from 50 to 100 titles every week.  This will continue until we have an extensive Magna catalog.

OT: Just in case you registered with .Biz and have not gotten an email from us lately, please check your spam folder.  Some free email services have actually put the store in their spam list.  On the other hand, if you received copies of our newsletters and would like to stop from doing so, you can opt out by clicking [email protected] (found in the bottom of every newsletter) and sending us a blank email.  My apologies for the OT.

Should you wish to consider, you can actually open an account with any member Bank of MegaLink PORT.  Currently, these banks are Union Bank, Bank of Commerce, International Exchange Bank, Development Bank of the Philippines, Asiatrust Bank, Insular Savings bank, Keppel Monte Bank (or GE Bank?), Maybank, and Prudential Bank.  I was told that Equitable PCI Bank and UCPB are member bank as well but are currently deactivated.  I hope these banks are reactivated soon as they have more branches nationwide.  The signup with MagaLink PORT was borne out of the suggestions of many for bank deposit or wire transfer payment mode.  Technically, we considered opening an account a with Megalink PORT member almost the same as making a bank deposit (with the additonal requirement for documents and initial deposit excluded from the equation, oops!).

Are there still Insular Savings Banks? I had accounts with two separate ISB branches, Makati and Kamias, and they both converted to Citibank Savings earlier this year. Would those converted accounts work?

Hi oddbit.  By now, I guess you must have already received an email from Yespayments asking you to check with your bank.  Even then, the payment failure can be due to a number of reasons of which PinoyDVD.biz is not privy to.  I don't think even our payment gateway knows what the exact cause of a failed transaction is due to as this is kept confidential by the issuing bank.  I suggest you try again, taking note of the credit card details.  If it returns a failed transaction notice, we advise our customers, as a matter of procedure, to check with the customer services group of the issuing bank.  As you may have already been advised by Yespayments, your account is never debited during a failed payment transaction.  if you have more questions, you can also write to [email protected].

Thanks Mr. Hankey.  Your query above was actually a revelation for us.  MegaLink PORT just confirmed that Insular Savings Bank was indeed acquired by Citibank Savings.  Unfortunately, this resulted in the delisting of Insular, and consequently Citibank Savings, from the MegaLink Consortium.  I was hoping that your accounts would have been MegaLink PORT enabled still. Anyway, thanks again.

There's no denying the network coverage of Expressnet, notably BPI.  How we wished we could link up with their system.  Anyway, we made initial checks (online, that is) on BPI and found no available option for online payments processing.  We are done with our online integration with MegaLink PORT so that should give us more time to sit down with BPI.  Thanks for the suggestion ranran.

While they're at it, maybe they can find out who supplies mag.net with those Cinefilipino.collection DVDs like Manila By Night, Cain at Abel and other rare films you can't find at your nearby Astro/Video City/Odyssey branches. That would be a real coup, since hard-to-find titles were the initial hook that got me to shop online when I first discovered the now defunct reel.com - back before Amazon carried DVDs.

Wow, I just realized that I've been shopping online for a really long time now!  ;D

Someone mentioned that the Cinefilipino titles in Mag:Net are supplied by Unitel locally. Internationally, they have an online store that sells the same titles at much higher prices. Randy may not agree with me but that's probably the reason why they won't be so hot on PinoyDVD as a retail channel.

I just received today the updated list of banks under the MegaLink PORT system. These are Asiatrust Bank, Bank of Commerce, International Exchange Bank, GE Money Bank, Maybank, and Union Bank.  techdude was right.  Prudential was acquired by BPI and is no longer part of the  MegaLink PORT consortium.

Changes also included the renaming of Keppel Monte Bank to GE Money bank and the successful migration of  all accounts of the former to the MegaLink PORT System.  I was told that by January, International Exchange Bank accounts will be merged with Union Bank Accounts relative to the PORT.

I'm still awaiting for further details on the re-activation of EPCI Bank, UCPB, and PNB.

On another note, we are indeed seriously looking to carry Filipino titles since one of our primary goals is to bring these DVDs to Pinoys all over.  Once we finalize arrangements, we will announce it here.

As part of our ongoing efforts to satisfy the different requests of customers and potential customers at PinoyDVD.biz, we will soon offer bank deposits to our account as a 3rd payment option.  The designated bank would be Banco De Oro.  Considerations are basically BDO's online facility (for our effective monitoring) and reach (potential reach, that is).  Once they merge with EPCI, they would be among the top 3 in terms of the most  number of branches of banks in the Philippines.  The rollout for this option would take place before the month ends.

Hi Oloap. New releases (together with their respective prices) and coming soon titles are "normally" included in our regular newsletters.  As for the other information, this can only be found in pinoydvd.biz.  If you really want, you can write to [email protected] to request for the complete listing of available titles from time to time but I suggest that you just refer to the site for your query.  By year's end, we should have more than 1,000 titles in our catalog already and that long list will keep on getting longer and longer.  In the long run, the available filters in the site will prove to be more efficient for searches.  Thanks.

Hi Bank deposit will be a great, but hope you have a mechanism on how to defferentiate deposit one from deposit two, if say they are for the same amount... As the business grows, those kinds of same amount/different buyers are inevitable...
Title: Re: Now Open: PinoyDVD Online Store

That wouldn't be a problem.  Each successful deposit is assigned a unique transaction number different from other deposits even with an equal amount.

So probably a prospective buyer will give the bank details of his/her deposit.

You are very right DVD_Freak.  We will require some details from the depositor to ensure the accuracy of the deposit.  Note that one of the considerations for choosing BDO is their online banking facility.  This will allow us to cross check the deposit details provided by the depositor and the details appearing in our account.  At .Biz. we are very conscious of process controls so that customers and their transactions are protected.  But please, suggestions are most welcome anytime. Thanks.

One more thing, The bank deposit route is a semi-automated process at best which is being offered as a convenience for buyers without Visa/Mastercard credit cards and Megalink accounts. BDO will allow the online store to track deposits at the branch level but as a precaution, the customer has to update his order via an e-mail trigger. The system then validates the transaction and sends an e-mail confirmation for the deposit.

For the record, PinoyDVD.biz still prefers payments via credit card and/or ATM accounts. Hopefully they'll be able to offer Paypal soon.

For Sir Randyv:  I just pre-booked the 2-disc Superman Returns (with comic book) at pinoydvd.biz.  However, after clicking on the "Prebook Now" button, there was no indication that the transaction was successful -- it just went back to the site's front page.

I think this also happened when I prebooked the Da Vinci Code a few weeks back.  Since I was not sure if what I did is correct, I repeated the process.  I found out later through an email from your end that I made two prebookings.

Because of this, is there any possibility of having a confirmation page to indicate that the transaction was successful?

For a moment there, I thought you didn't get the email.  That was disturbing considering that we did several tests before rolling out the auto-generate email feature for pre-bookings.  Anyway, It's already clear where you're coming from.  I'll see if we can cook up something quickly to plug the hole you just pointed out. Thanks.   ;)

Thanks for considering my suggestion.  In addition to the email sent out after pre-booking, it would also be nice to see right away that the pre-booking submission was okay even if it's just a short message saying that the transaction was successful.  By the way, I've already received an email confirmation on my Superman Returns pre-booking.   :)

We updated today our Magnavision catalog with the addition of 80 titles.  These are all discounted to P350.  Magna is currently processing our next order so new additions would most likely be available same day next week again.  'Looks like we are on track to building up the complete Magnavison catalog.  ;)

Neat.  I see many obscure titles that I thought were unavailable in R3.  Iba talaga ang online, the whole catalog...

Really worth the effort of getting a CC or Megalink card.

You're very right Dowals.  ;D  The titles are indeed P375 and not P350 as originally posted.  In my haste to announce the latest additions, I misposted the proper amount. But who knows, we might really sell some of these at those prices or even lower at some future date (soon, we all hope).  Thanks.  By the way, expect more news today from .Biz courtesy of our newsletters.

What is going against Magnavision in this case is that they are basically distributors, and are such,  governed by the pricing policies of the mother studios.  In my limited dealings with them, I've seen them compromise on prices in favor of satisfying market wants.  I am fairly confident in saying that they are conscious of market needs and wants.  But like you, I do hope that prices are slashed whenever possible.  A peso dropped here and then goes a long way in adding an additional DVD during these challenging times. ;D

Magnavision in my eyes are indeed improving.  Yun prices lang talaga ang medyo questionable.  They still release titles at 895.  But kudos to them for offering more titles packaged in bosed sets/promos which in my opinion are admirable.  But I think they should start thinking sales by volume and not profiting from selling titles at the 895 price point which titles are hard to dispose.

I don't have the sales figures from the distributors but Viva and warner make tons of money more and their stocks fly off the shelves because of the lower cost for each titles.  Viva's shift to pricing their disney titles at 550 starting with the little mermaid made me buy one eventhough I am still getting the R1 counterpart.  And that's aside from the fact that I have made dozens of purchases of their 299 titles which I wouldn't even dream of picking up at their SRP.

As for Warner, their prices have been sensational moreso for new releases that I also order w/o hesitation titles that would make me think before if I should get it!

With today's economy..people are very smar and more concious to look for bargains and Magna should start shifting to the idea of selling in volumes rather than profits per unit sold.

(The issue below was raised and already answered in a different thread here.  I felt it was relevant to post it here as well.  Mods, please delete if you think its inappropriate.) ???

Please note when you encounter the following error message at PinoyDVD.biz:

The email address already exists. If you are the owner of the email address and you have concerns, please advise us by emailing us at [email protected]

This type of error arises when a registrant misses out on activating his/her account after creating one.  As a precautionary measure and to safeguard the owner of the email address, account activation at .Biz requires clicking on an email link sent to the address indicated in account creation.  This process prevents a person from using somebody else's email address to create an account.  This error is common as a number of registrants overlook the activation email because of it landing in their junk folders.  That's why during account creation, we remind everybody to check their junk or spam folders.

If you can't find your activation email, write to [email protected] to request for a resend of the email.

Hi jm33_babe.  You simply email [email protected] to request for a credit card change.  However, you will have to send the front copy of your replacement card (with the 8 middle digits and expiration date blocked, of course ;D). Thanks. ;)

Ordered first time here, first order disappointed kaagad ako. The ET 2disc SE arrived with a crumpled plastic sleeves, as in really crumpled. This stock should have never left the store.

I know that you will tell me that it can be replaced, i was advised that the item will be picked-up on a certain day, but through email, so I missed that advisory, If only I can be online all day, so I again requested for a second pick-up, I missed one item in the form, the courier was so in a hurry that they were gone before my maid called my attention. So I guess I will just to settle with that copy. Ordering on-line might have its advantages, but disadvantage also comes in the way, since you dont see the item first hand.

I am new here, and I am quite surprised that in the Marketplace, I didnt had any problem like this.

Personally, I don't have any problem with the DVDs I ordered from PinoyDVD.  All are packaged properly and arrived in tiptop shape.

ET is distributed by Magnavision, and Magna DVD are notorious for using cheap looking clear amarays and thick cellophane like cover that looks cheap and get crumpled easily.  The problem is more with Magna's packaging than PinoyDVD.    Still, maybe PinoyDVD should have rejected the disc when it was delivered to them...

I just hope, this incident might not deter you from buying from them again...
In my view, the advantages of buying online is worth the hassle.  For one,   the extensive library is really, really neat (eg. ET was unavailable in the numerous Astro I'd been to).  And discounted price (especially Warner's) are reflected immediately, unlike some stores which takes time to change their prices (and sometimes even don't).

My experience with Pinoydvd.biz delivery was also very good. The DVDs were packaged very well and delivered promptly. Their support team was also the most cooperative I've seen.

This is a continuing improvement process wherein I believe that they would be willing to correct some of the oversights they make. Forums like this is a good medium for us consumers to give them ideas on how to improve on their service. I'm sure randyv will check on this. :D

Regarding the crumpled plastic cover, I think quality control on the warehousing side (during delivery from supplier and before dispatch to customer) should be able to correct this. As for the date of pickup, maybe another way would be to send an SMS regarding the scheduled date for pickup as most of us aren't online all the time. Just some suggestions  ;)

If you were to buy this from Astroplus or any other video/record store, you might still be encountering the "crumpled plastic sleeves" packaging.  I have seen several ETs in stores before and I must say that this is generally the condition of its packaging.  As Dowals has attested, the ET DVDs in the Astro store where he bought his copy are all like this.  This is one reason that I'm not really enthusiastic in buying old Magnavision releases because of their crappy cases -- mukhang pirated ang packaging.

Oh well, Magnavision doesn't give them any alternative.  From what's posted, it seems most ETs are like that, so either Astro reject them or sell them as it is...

As to pricing, pareho lang naman ang .biz at Astro (sans shipping).  So it's not really .biz fault but Magnavision.

Okay, so since .biz will replace my DVD, and from the posts here it seems that most if not all the plastic cover of ET is crumpled, I wonder what copy will I get as a replacement? Mababaw lang naman yung problema, kaso sympre, if I were to see that in the stores, I wouldn't consider buying it. Of course we want a good piece.

Natyempo lang siguro, but I will definitely consider buying again at .biz but I guess I will just have to avoid getting Magnavisions.

In a way, .biz also has a fault, again, if this is an isolated case I would understand, but it seems that this is already a common knowledge to a lot on how Magnavision makes their DVD's, so why get items like this? Let the stores sell it, since customers will have a first hand look at the item, they will have a choice, unless .biz will post the actual pics of the item and advise the condition,  then its the customers choice wether they will still buy it or not given the situation.
Title: Re: Now Open: PinoyDVD Online Store
Post by: techdude on Nov 01, 2006 at 02:33 AM
PinoyDVD.biz probably had no idea on the condition of the discs until it was delivered.  And to reject them or choose not to sell them would probably be detrimental to developing business relations with Magnavision... since PinoyDVD.biz is more or less a startup, and they had to rely on the authorized distro for the DVDs.   As PinoyDVD grew, they probably would get more leverage and power to demand for better products.  NOTE that this is all speculation from a businessperson point-of-view as I am not connected nor knowledgeable about PinoyDVD.biz's operations.  :)

But I do agree, that it the product is less than agreeable, maybe they could inform the buyer prior to shipping.  The problem with this, however, is the Yespayments/PORT deduct payment immediately on order, and I don't think there's a way around that.   And cancelling such transaction is expensive as Yespayments would charge PinoyDVD for them...

Anyway, so far, it seems isolated, so maybe they can work something out.

As for me, I am satisfied with the service they provided, and hope that Magnavision (and eventually Viva) would provide them with timely releases like Warner, so far, only Da Vinci Code from the October releases had make it to the online store.  And I think most DVD buyers are a compulsive bunch (ie wants to own a DVD almost at launch), so they are missing out from those.  I for one, got Mission Impossible III and The Producers from brick-and-mortar stores, both of which I could have ordered online, if they were available...

frootloops I also have this experience, my first order a week or two ago ET 2 disc at 475 ata and some others. Yes same thing crumpled cover for ET. I was disappointed, went out to buy a two disc case from cd outlet in new virra mall and replaced it. So I spend around 475 on dvd, around 35 or 40 ata sa case, 20 to 30 ata parking, 100 maybe for gas back and forth. My total is about 600 to 650..for ET phone home....hehehe...But the other discs are ok and good and convenient service from pinoy online store

I’m not sure if I said this here before but the ultimate goal of .Biz is to bring affordable quality DVDs to pinoys all over. With this in mind, our quality check must ensure that the DVDs leaving our store are acceptable to the intended party.  If not, then it becomes too expensive for us to handle the return and replacement of the DVDs.  So, how do we ensure the quality?  Currently, we do two checks whenever we receive DVDs from our distributors (same checks are applied again prior to shipment). The first check is on the packaging and the second one is if the discs are dislodged from their holders.  While the latter is easier to do, the former is admittedly tougher because it can become subjective.  If packaging across studios and distributors are exactly the same, then filtering “rejects” would be an easier task.  But unfortunately for us, this is not the case such that we now have to set a standard that we believe is acceptable to our customers.  This standard is adjusted based on the feedback we get directly from customers or from this forum.  That’s why .Com is a daily habit for me now.

Going to frootloops’ case, I already relayed to him my interest in seeing the condition of the packaging and both of us have already agreed on the next pickup reschedule.  If the condition of the packaging is the same as what we currently have on stock, then a refund is in order rather than a replacement. And subsequently, we will remove the title from our catalog.

The returns policy of the store was drafted to protect the interest of our customers and not to afford an easy way out for .Biz to extricate itself from problems similar to the one being talked about now.  When we were drafting the policy, management was in unison in applying a pickup policy rather than a mail in policy.  It was also decided that the cost for the pickup is shouldered by .Biz and not the customer.  The idea was to make the return as convenient as possible to the customer.  If there are still alternatives to improve this policy, we will definitely look into it.

Whatever feedback we get, we communicate this to the distributors.  Our belief is that the general market for DVDs in the Philippines is here at .Com (and I saw someone else post this somewhere here before). I would assume that the distributors are cognizant of this as well.  As an offshoot of frootloops, we are enforcing a stricter filtering policy on packaging and have requested our distributors to be pickier, as well, with DVDs delivered to us.  We also brought to their attention techdude’s(?) complaint of slicing open the shrink wraps at the side and sticking the ratings(?) sticker.  Their explanation, which seemed reasonable, is that the imported DVDs come shrink wrapped and because of regulations, they are compelled to stick the ratings label in the plastic cover and not on the shrink wrap.

We also believe that .Com members are generally one of the most particular and exacting DVD customers (and I mean this in a good way).  If we can serve you satisfactorily, then how much easier will it be to serve other customers?  In parallel to the song New York(?), if we can make it here, we’ll make it anywhere!

Much thought and planning went before the roll out of .Biz.  I think our policies and procedures validate this.   However, we do recognize that there are still things that are left to be desired.  Like clea said, we are still in a continuing improvement process.  I think some of the members here can attest to the fact that whenever possible, features are added/implemented based on members’ inputs.  To name a few: Texting rollout was due to a Dowals request, and; rafgar’s contribution was the pre-booking confirmation page.

I hope that this post does not muddle the issue at hand, but rather sheds light on .Biz’ position.

We have successfully rolled out yesterday, 1 November 2006, two new features at PinoyDVD.biz. 8)

Customers of .Biz opting for a cash deposit payment facility can now pay for their purchases by making a deposit to a designated .Biz account at any Banco De Oro branch.  At checkout, customers simply click on ‘Bank Deposit’ as their preferred payment method.  After checkout, they will then receive an email from .Biz indicating the bank account details and the amount for deposit.  In the same email, they are also asked to note specific details in their deposit which are required by .Biz (the details are used as a reference in identifying the deposit). Once deposits are matched, the corresponding orders are then shipped to customers.  Note that customers are only given two days to make their deposit.  Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of their order.

Those who intend to give the gift of (original) DVDs this Christmas (or any other occasion for that matter) can do so with the ‘Gift Card’ option at .Biz.  At every checkout, customers are asked whether they want their orders shipped with a gift card.  Just pick ‘Yes’ and enter your short message in the box provided.  You are then given the option to drop the invoice from the package (which should be logical if you’re sending gifts).  After a successful checkout, your message is then printed on an exclusive .Biz gift card and included in your package.  Oh, the joy of receiving ‘Barbie in the Nutcracker’ from ninang, priceless…….. ;D

We are also adding today 85 Magnavision titles to our catalog.  These are all discounted to only P375.  Banners below and at .Biz have been updated to point to the new list. ;)

Yeah, I actually noticed this problem with "Creature" back in April (http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=50262.msg564651#msg564651). It's beyond pinoydvd.biz's control - kasalanan na yan ng nagrerelease ng Hallmark productions locally, although I think you were right to bring it to their attention, so pinoydvd.biz will be made aware of this so they don't stock this title anymore.

It really rightly angers customers when they buy an allegedly legitimate product and it's clearly sourced from pirated material. Hallmark releaser, take note... and SHAME ON YOU!  >:(

"Creature" DVD:

I think it is Magnavision.  Again, not a fault of PinoyDVD.biz.  But I would be terribly annoyed if I am the one who purchases the said disc.  Fortunately, horror is not my genre of choice. :)

The disc is probably genuine, but viewing such would fell like watching a pirated disc.  A search on .biz shows that the DVD was released way back in 1998.  So as one of the first batch of DVDs, maybe the studios just digitalize the film without taking care as to remove such marks.

______________

Polar Express with snow globe is showing up as new release on .biz.  I think that was released a year ago...

Yup, it's a mastering and QC issue. Hallmark sends the Betacam masters locally and these are converted to DVD format by Magnavision's manufacturing supplier. In this case, the error was probably on Hallmark's end but the manufacturer should have caught that during the authoring stage.

Earlier today, we reported stryder’s case to our distributor and asked them to look into the matter.  They called late afternoon today with their findings and regret over the incident. :-[   Apparently, the stocks were already marked as “rejects” and should not have been supplied to us at all.  But the warehouseman, failing to filter properly, still delivered the stocks to us. In fairness to the distributor, this happened as well with our other distributor and under the same circumstance (where warehouse failed to sift out the reject stocks).  Dr. Zhivago, then, was inadvertently delivered to us.

To prevent a repeat, “Creature” was delisted from our catalog today.

Hi Moks007.  There are actually three options for returned items. These are the following:

-Replacement - we will ship to you the replacement item (s) free of shipping charges, provided that said item is on stock.

-Store Credits - If we cannot replace your defective items, we can credit your account with the value of the returned items including the shipping costs. If the returned items are part of a multi-item shipment, your credit will be pro-rated based on the weight of the returned items over the total weight of the items shipped.

-Refund - If we cannot replace your defective items, we can also refund your account with the value of the returned items including the shipping costs. If the returned items are part of a multi-item shipment, your refund will be pro-rated based on the weight of the returned items over the total weight of the items shipped.

Thanks.

I have some bit of good news coming Magna's way. :)  Due to numerous requests from members regarding the ratings labels, Magna decided to finally stick these on the shrink wrap.  Rejoice! No more crummy stickers on the cases and no more sliced open shrink wraps. ;D  Magna has heard your voices and saw the rationale in your explanations.  Like I said before, in my limited conversations with them, they have been very receptive and open to suggestions from members.

and it had jumped into the (PinoyDVD) bestseller top spot, less than 20 minutes after sales started...

Due to numerous requests from members regarding the ratings labels, Magna decided to finally stick these on the shrink wrap.

Are they actually allowed to do this? I figured Warner was doing it on the sly, but the OMB just wasn't paying close attention.

I ask because back during the VRB days, when they first started requiring the VRB ratings stickers on laserdiscs, I know of a laserdisc shop that got penalized for sticking the stickers on the plastic and not on the jacket of the discs itself. Or maybe that just applies to rental copies and not those for sale - does that even make any sense?

Anyway... this is good news indeed. Thanks for the update!

Sir randyv just a quick inquiry...

Being a Magna release, how come you don't have M.I. III 2-disc in stock?

Will you be having it soon.

Thanks.

Earlier, we got the recent releases of Magna. :)  I’m assuming that M.I. III is included.  If not, we’ll ask for copies immediately.  Anyway, the new releases should be available from the online store by tomorrow.

The delay in the recent releases is really more our fault.  We got too preoccupied with updating our catalog with old Magna titles that we practically forgot about the new releases. ;D  However, we talked to Magna (and also, Warner) about this and we are currently threshing out the process so that our stocks of new releases are delivered on the same day as the street date.  8) Thanks for asking DVD_freak.

And something for PinoyDVD.biz guys to ponder...

How do those who get Superman UCE from PinoyDVD.biz redeem the discount coupon if they were to get The Ant Bully (tentative release date: November 21, 2006).   To buy that DVD at brick-and-mortar stores or do we get automatic discount for a limited time?  The latter option would allow some to get two copies of The Ant Bully (One online and another offline), not that Warner will object, since their margin is surely more than Php 25...

The Ant Bully is not as anticipated as Superman UCE/Returns (Personally, I am still debating whether to get it), but some other people might...hence the Q...

Thanks for the earlier isntructional techdude. :)  Regarding your suggestion, it does seem very reasonable and rationale.  I'll ask our tech group to look into this.  I'm pretty sure we can come up with a solution that is in line with your suggestion. 8)

Like you, I think Warner will not mind the P25 discount (although I can still be wrong).  The following is how we might execute the coupon redemption and this is still subject to the approval of Warner. ;D From .Biz perspective, we have a database of those who bought the UCE.  The implication here is that these members need not send us copies of the discount coupons for Ant Bully since their  names can easily be referenced against our database.  For customers who bought UCE from traditional stores, we will require a copy of the coupon either by fax or email.  Thanks for asking techdude. :)

nasa 'S' na sila so baka isang batch na lang kumpleto na ang Magnavision DVD9 catalogue.

Viva na lang talaga ang kulang, pero how do you stock Viva titles na 'erratic' ang release at nag-299 after a few (as little as two) months...

Just like Warner & Magna, Viva just has to inform PinoyDVD.biz of any permanent price reduction to 299 I guess.  Tutal naman hindi kasali ang site sa mga on going sales sa malls (i.e. Warner...always permanent reduction, Magna...never nag 333 sa site during mallwide sales).

Even if during the sale nag-299 ang mga Viva titles, normal price pa rin ang site.  Then after the sale, Viva titles are back to regular prices, the site naman still lists titles at normal prices.

As techdude has pointed out, we updated again our database with new Magnavision titles. Thanks techdude.  The additions consist of 12 recent releases and 87 not so recent releases (already discounted to P375). Banners have been updated here and at .Biz to point to the new lists.  And yes, we are indeed close to completely building up the discounted Magna titles.  Once done, we will then move to the P895 titles so that before the year ends, we would have a very extensive catalog of Magnavison titles. 8)  Regarding M.I. III, I was just advised that this would be delivered to our warehouse tomorrow. :)  That being the case, this should be available before tomorrow ends.  On Stryder’s King Kong, this would be included once we start updating the P895 titles.

I don’t have anything yet on Viva.  I would have wished that I had something more substantial to report but unfortunately there is none yet. :(  I am hopeful, however, that we can sit down with them soon to thresh out the distribution terms.  I’ll advise you here and via our newsletter, once we come up with something more definite on Viva.

We have added a new field in the My Account Information page due to a recent request.  There is now an entry for Nicknames or Pen names.  This is useful for hiding your complete name when writing reviews (assuming that you want to remain anonymous  ;D).  The field is optional and when left blank, the complete name will appear in the reviews.  Everyone is welcome at .Biz to share their respective views on good or bad movies.  Thanks. ;)

Same here.

Unlike in the US, where Shrek and Shrek 3D is sold as a package (2 Disc bundle), Magnavision split it into two... The first Shrek seems to be out-of-stock na, so what's left is the 15-minutes 3D Shrek animated short originally made for the Universal Studios Theme Park ride (Shrek 4D). The product description (Synopsis, Runtime, Director) needs updating... The case also list it as a Region 1, but since my DVD Player is multi-region, I am not sure if the DVD itself is R1 or R3...

I am not returning it.  Keeping it for the 3D novelty.   But keep me posted if Magnavision still have the Widescreen version of the first Shrek.  Thanks.

Another thing while the product descriptions clearly states that the dvd cover art are meant for reference and subject to change, you might want to change the picture of United 93... it's too different from what was released here (hint: Magnavision likes UK covers). ;)

Shrek 1
Hell Boy 2-disc
Apollo 13 2-disc DTS
Glory 2-disc (Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman)
Spiderman 1  2-disc
Mask of Zorro

They have so many titles of not so popular movies, but the blockbusters above seem overlooked.

Baka naman out of stock na...

I have not seen Shrek and Apollo 13 at any offline shop na rin...

But I think such listings and requests (especially for titles previously seen at brick-and-mortar shops) would be welcomed by Randyv and PinoyDVD.biz, they can ask Magnavision (or Warner)  about their availability...

I noticed that The Green Mile (2-disc) Released this October is still missing from the PinoyDVD.biz database, though I already got mine offline...

_________

If you use the search box, the resulting page's right side (to be occupied by ads) shows 'Not Found'...

The above titles were not overlooked but simply delayed. ;D  Our build up strategy for the magnavision catalog was to start with the titles discounted to P475 and P375.  Actually, it's just one more delivery and we are done at these price ranges (onwards to the next price level).  So it seems that some of the titles, like Spiderman, Shrek and Zorro, may already be available as early as the first week of December assuming that these titles are still on stock at Magnavision. :)

You’re partially correct techdude.  We updated all imported DVD discs of Magnavision  priced P499 and below.  However, some titles remain unserved (including Mr. Deeds) so we will check with Magna again to see if these are still available.  As far as titles priced above P499, delivery should start next week.

DVD_Freak:  OT /Offline stores: Marami restock akong nakita budget na Mr. Deeds Php 299,  3-for-600 ngayon...

Not the 475 budget, but straight to DVD5 kind...like King Kong 1970s/Princess Bride/Emmanuel Series type whose prices could go as low as 150...

But wait another week, maybe Magnavision still have the DVD9 version of Mr. Deeds.  That would be much better than those DVD5 discs...

______________

I like browsing PinoyDVD's catalogue, specially any new additions, I discovered quite a few gems at less than half R1 prices...  I especially am happy with buying the Chaplin Collection for less than 3k whereas R1 would have cost me over $80 sans shipping...

BTW, the newest additions from Magnavision at PinoyDVD can be found here:

Magnavision 12/05/2006 new additions (https://www.pinoydvd.biz/index.php?list=magnanew&date=20061205)

Among the new titles: SWAT, Tomb Raider, Truman Show, Universal Soldier 1 and 2, True Grit, Urban Cowboy, True Lies, Village of The d**ned, Vanilla Sky, White Christmas, Wild Thornberrys, Xanadu, etc.

I noticed that, unlike before, a few titles are 333 (dati mostly 375), is that a prelude to the yearend sale that Sir Firewired alluded to...?

Any updates?   What about the 333 sale from Magnavision?  PinoyDVD had been a bit late in updating...as such, a lot of the sales had went to Astro instead to PinoyDVD.   As Astro has been selling those 333 titles for nearly a month, those with access to a local Astro would have bought whatever item they fancy that had been discounted...

And the same with new titles... by the time, they appear on PinoyDVD, those who really wanted them would have bought already...

Sorry, if my post is a bit direct, but that's the way I see it.

Yes techdude, our recently updated copy of 'Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf' is the old release and not the recent one.  Apparently, there was  a mix up in the delivery but all has been sorted and clarified now.  Relative to the newer release, no date has yet been confirmed by Warner. :(

As for the recent sale, it ended last Sunday, 24 December 2006.  We are due for another sale on some selected Magna titles come early January 2006.  For those who are bargain hunting, some titles might interest you so just watch out.  :)

Hi gadgetguru.  We have yet to sit down with Magnavision on this.  Considering that you might run out of free DVD5 titles that interest you, I suggest you preorder now with stores that currently offer the promo.

After months of not buying at the BIZ, today, I was so impressed with their service, making it up for the last unfortunate incident I've encountered. I ordered today...around 2am, and got my package at 330PM in perfect condition, and with a very huge plastic of Air21 to totally protect the item. Cheers to you BIZ!!

OT: I did not expect the package to arrive that quick, I was suppose to hide it to my wife. While we were watching earlier, my daughter came in the room with that BIG plastic.....ANO NANAMAN YAN!!! YARI!! :D

PinoyDVD.biz really offer great service.  Unfortunately, it seems people here still are wary of online purchases.   People will buy The Prestige from Astrovision but not from PinoyDVD.biz eventhough the price is almost similar (425 + Shipping at PinoyDVD  VS 475 at Astrovision et al).    If you look at the Bestseller list, you can see that The Prestige is not there yet (as of Feb.14, 2007 1AM)... meaning nobody bought one...

No wonder the local distributors are not enthusiastic at releasing new titles to the online shop.

This is my own private observation and i really hope I am wrong on this one.

I buy online only for DVDs not available locally here in SM Davao Astrovision.. Much cheaper because no shipping fee involved..

If you buy in bulk (3,000 and above), PinoyDVD does offer free shipping.    But few buy that much in one go.

It's just that, while with shipping, it might be more expensive, PinoyDVD.biz does support this board, so the little extra is really worth it.

True, just like last Sunday, I went to Rockwell to buy The Prestige for 475, later when I checked over at the biz, its 425 only, given that I spent gas and parking fee of 45ph, and the effort, its still worth buying here.

Another  instance was the 3 DVD's I ordered last night, I only paid 71ph for shipping, just click to shop, sleep, when you wake-up, the DVD is at your door step. Saves a lot of hassle, considering what I got was off the rack already, and most importantly, you were able to support this board.  c",)

also, would appreciate if you can provide me with leads to the following titles i've been looking for so long (dvd or vcd, it doesn't matter):

*highlander: endgame [the very last full length highlander film where connor mcleod and duncan mcleod (from the TV series) finally meet]
*flash gordon (the 1980s sam jones epic movie)
*hellboy animated: the sword of storms (hellboy cartoon movie, recently released in the states)

my many thanks and more power to your site! :)

Hi warpdrive94.  The online store was primarily built to cater to online orders.  As such, our process limits us from processing orders offline.  Over time, we've had numerous queries similar to yours such that we just just might allow for pick ups in the near future.

I'm sorry but I can't help you with the titles that you enumerated. :-[  Hopefully, other members here can help you in this regard.  ;D

Title: (Viva) Pinoy DVD now on PinoyDVD.biz
Post by: techdude on Apr 28, 2007 at 10:53 PM
Finally...

Just discovered that...

PinoyDVD.biz now carries Viva  Pinoy DVDs!

___________

Wala pang Disney, Fox or other DVDs from Viva...

___________

and wonder if Magnavision still support PinoyDVD.biz, since they no longer send new releases .biz way...
____________

While browsing the Pilipino DVDs, come across this DVD description (which given Viva's track record is probably what's written on the backcover of the DVD):

Miguelito: Ang Batang Rebelde

"Mayor Ven Herera (Eddie Garcia) is grooming his only son Miguelito "Mike" Herera (Aga Muhlach) to be his predecessor. Mike, however, has other plans and live a happy go lucky life..."

Okay heard from Randy regarding the situation with Magna. Things should be back to normal by next week. In a nutshell, the problem was inventory and process-related which had something to do with the .biz system being completely automated as against Magna's which requires manual intervention at certain points. This created difficulties on both sides, and the last couple of months were spent trying to work things out.

Title: Re: Now Open: PinoyDVD Online Store

Just received the August newsletter.  Tuloy pa free shipping for orders Php 1,000 and above until August 31st.

And Warner restocked quite a few classics and repriced them at Php 199!

Nice to see that Citylights is now restocked at Php 275.  And somebody at Warner must be an Elvis fan, as they restocked and repriced a whole bunch of Elvis DVDs...

And looks like Magnavision is supporting PinoyDVD.biz again with a steady stream of new titles.

Just a Q for folks at PinoyDVDs, will titles that are unavailable as imported DVD9 like Hallmark DVDs be stocked?  Will Pinoy DVD ever carry those 3-for-600, 2-for-500 Magnavision DVDs?  How about the current promo at many local brick-and-mortar stores (2 DVDs for the price of one  on selected imported 895 titles)?
Title: Re: Now Open: PinoyDVD Online Store
Post by: randyv on Aug 01, 2007 at 09:33 PM
Yes techdude, we decided to extend the free shipping promo until the end of August.  Considering that we still have a batch or two of permanent price drops from Warner and some promos from Magna, we felt compelled to extend the period.

We were surprised ourselves to find that there were still a number of Warner titles not in our catalog.  With our last update, we should be anywhere at 90% to 95% of the entire DVD catalog of Warner.  In parallel, we are also building up our Magna and Viva catalog to the same level as Warner's. With regards to Magna, they've always supported .Biz.  There were just some issues that we both needed to address during the early part of this year but we are over that.  As we grow, there are still some issues that present but its not as substantial to merit a repeat of our old problem as techdude objectively observed.

I'll call on Warner regarding the Hallmark DVDs and post their answer here on this thread.  On the Magna promos, we are definitely offering the buy 1/take 1 promo for selected P895 titles.  We are just completing our list on the DVDs that are covered, which total 148 titles.  Watch out for this next week.  On the other Magna promos, we have to see how on how we execute these online.

Many thanks for the questions techdude.

Title: Re: Now Open: PinoyDVD Online Store
Post by: techdude on Aug 01, 2007 at 10:30 PM

I'll call on Warner regarding the Hallmark DVDs and post their answer here on this thread.

Hallmark titles (mostly TV miniseries) are from Magnavision, and are mostly DVD5 titles at 350-375 each with most titles now part of their 3-for-600 titles.  So I think whether your company will sell them will depend on whether you decide to carry those types of DVDs.

I think some of those older Warner titles were out-of-print when your company started a year ago, hence it was not included in your Warner inventory.  Warner just re-imported them now, as evidenced by the Warner sticker on the back (those that indicate 07 07 or something like it).  :)

As for those Buy-one Take-one DVDs, I'll wait for your final list, as there are three-four that caught my fancy (from Brick-and-Mortar stores).  As always, PinoyDVD has the full list, whereas offline stores only carry selected titles.

As for Viva, you might want to ask Viva how they could accommodate your company concerning their ongoing 299 (buy 3 free 1) sale.

Oh, any inside info on when Rome II (Warner) will be released locally?

Thanks.

Thanks for the correction on the Hallmark DVDs techdude.  Considering that most of the titles are DVD5, we will set it aside for the time being since the priority with Magna now is in building up their DVD9 catalog.  On the P895 buy 1/take 1 promo, we expect the deliveries on Monday next week.  At the latest, we should have the promo ready by Friday.

Regarding Rome II, Warner told me that they don't have the schedule yet on the release date of the DVD.

Price of Hot Fuzz is 895 whereas it's 695 at offline stores.  Probably just a typo.

Also Poseidon is stated as 199 in the main page ad but 275 when accessed.

And is it just my connection or is PinoyDVD.biz very slow to load today?  The main page will work, but clicking on the ads or categories, and nothing comes up?

And while I appreciate the full secure website, it, together with unnecessary ads, is bogging down the site.  Can't it be like Amazon, where the product site is http, and only during the checkout process is secured by SSL?

Hot Fuzz is indeed priced at P695.

The correct price is really P275; there was a slip-up in the banner preparation.

.Biz was really slow earlier.  The problem has since been corrected and its back to normal now.

Quote
And while I appreciate the full secure website, it, together with unnecessary ads, is bogging down the site.  Can't it be like Amazon, where the product site is http, and only during the checkout process is secured by SSL?
When we rolled out .Biz, we decided to secure the entire site rather than start at the checkout process since we felt that the encryption involved was not substantial to affect performance.  Considering the access speed of the site, we will look into your suggestion and compare performances.  In addition, we are also looking at other alternatives, options and methods to improve the current performance of the online store.

Thanks again for the inquiry and corrections techdude.

Is it just my internet (myDSL) connection or is PinoyDVD.biz exceedingly slow?   Click. Wait 2-3 minutes, click, another 2-3 minutes.  So long that I lost interest...

When I tried to check it a while later, I get mySQL database errors....

Also, isn't it's time to ask Viva to lower their prices, since most older titles can be bought offline for 299 (3+1 pa!)
Title: Re: Now Open: PinoyDVD Online Store
Post by: randyv on Sep 17, 2007 at 11:02 PM
I doubt it was your connection techdude.  Further to my last post, we were doing test and making changes to .Biz earlier to improve the performance of the site.  So far, so good; the last set of changes shows a marked improvement in the access speed.  You may still encounter some slowdowns in the future, however,  as we continue in our efforts to better the shopping experience at .Biz. For this, I apologize in advance.

Regarding Transformers, I agree with your assessment. I'm pretty sure Magna is very much aware of the market potential also.  Even then, I'll bring this up when I get the chance to talk to them.

As for Viva, we already brought to their attention the discrepancies in pricing last time. Hopefully we will be more successful next time around.

Just got word from Magna that Transformers will indeed have a pre-booking promo. Tentative release date is 2nd week October.  As to the variants, we don't yet what they will release here.

In addition, Bourne Ultimatum will likewise have a pre-booking promo.  I don't how true but target release date is also in October which is way ahead of R1.

Any idea how limited both versions will be, kasi, this could be like the '300 mask gift set' where demand outstrips supply..

I guess Bourne Ultimatum's prebooking will come after the Transformers reach the market with release towards the end of October, after all, December pa R1 nito...

Hi stryder, I stand corrected.  Since I was relying on our banners, I assumed that the 11-13 pack is already available.  Our operations just confirmed that what we have at Biz. is only the  Ocean's 13 single.  The pack should come out anytime soon.

Hi oreoshake.  What's available right now is the Spiderman 3 2-disc version.  We are still waiting for the delivery of the other variants; tentative release date is Sep 24.  Just in case you reserved for the 2-disc version and have yet received the notification, just go ahead with your checkout at .Biz since you're copy is reserved and you are already entitled to the free item.

I guess I pre-ordered the Package with Spider-man 1, 2 and 3..  :D :D :D

Ocean's 11-13 pack is now available at .Biz and so with Rome II.  I was told that there's a P300 discount coupon in Rome season 2 which you can apply in your purchase of Rome season I. Just in case you still don't have a copy of the 1st season, you can get this for P1,200 if you apply the coupon.

Oops, I almost forgot.  We already have copies of Spiderman 3 1-Disc version.

The latest is that there is definitely a pre-booking promo.  I guess this is already common knowledge to everybody here.  As to the variants, no confirmation yet.  For everybody's sake, I hope that it's all the variants that everyone's waiting for.  I'll give a heads up once I have something. :)

I think the Ocean's 11-13 giftset should be priced at 1000 not 999.  Unfair for those who want to order that only, they will have to pay 72.79 for shipping!  Or tweak the free shipping to 999 or above.

Q:  The DVD packaging for Ocean's 11-13 is similar?  Only that it got the limited collectible cards in tin packaging?

We concur with techdude's suggestion and have consequently adjusted our price to P1,000 so that members can avail of free shipping with the Ocean's pack alone.  Note that we are however more expensive by a huge P1.00. ;D

Regarding the packaging, we don't carry a variant of the regular box set so we cannot say with certainty but we're guessing that it's the same.

Although I have no intention of buying (since I already have it), I just want to ask how could you apply the extra 300 discount to Season 1 if you bought Season 2?  I tried buying it on your online shop and the total reflect the original sale price of 1,500 (not 1200).  Note that I have no intention of buying, just throwing a 'monkey wrench' into the equation ;)

Maybe it could be nice if there's a coupon redeeming option like those of other online shops, where you can key in a coupon code before checkout.  The coupon code could be sent after purchase of an item (ie  Rome S2).  Just a suggestion.

planning to ask this as well.. i'm planning to buy both seasons for a friend at .biz seeing as season 1 is just at P1500 and there's a P300 coupon.. both seasons would just be P3000 but i don't know what's the process regarding the coupon..

Addressing boredfilmaker's concern is easier.  We will setup by next week a bundled product item for Rome season 1 and 2 priced at P3000 (P1200 + P1800).

I'll have to get back to your suggestion techdude.  There are issues that we have to clear with  Warner before we execute a redemption process.  No worries though for those who bought or are planning to buy Rome 2 and subsequently redeem the coupons; I'm very sure that we will come up with an acceptable and convenient process that is similar, if not the same, to techdude's suggestion.

For general info, we revised our registration process at .Biz to allow for faster activation of the credit card payment option.  Copies of IDs and credit cards are generally no longer required.  Instead, members simply request for credit card activation of their respective accounts by writing to support with the subject heading "ACTIVATE CREDIT CARD OPTION" and .Biz will do the rest.

Thanks also keilu.

maybe they can put a feature there where those who have bought a copy can post pics or a review.. like with amazon.. i remember when .biz started, there was a feature where you can add a review of a dvd.. when the site changed, nawala na rin yung feature na yun.. sorry, OT na..  :D

We always intended to bring back the reviews page and we will do this soon.  Although some may see this as redundant considering that there is .Com, we still feel that a review section will give a prospective buyer the opportunity to instantly get feedback from somebody who has already gone over a product.

btw, do you have any idea if they are also accepting megalink payments, is banco de oro a member of megalink ba? Thanks :)

The last time I checked, these are the member banks under MegaLink PORT:Union Bank, Bank of Commerce, Development Bank of the Philippines, Asiatrust Bank, Insular Savings bank, GE Bank, Maybank, and Prudential Bank.

I know that it's gonna happen but I doubt that it will happen very soon.  We are currently talking to the distributors to revive the thematic sales promo.  The problem is getting anything approved right now since everyone is busy with the summer blockbuster releases.  Warner is currently preoccupied with Harry Potter.   Once the smoke clears, we'll make a go of it again.  :)

Warner is currently preoccupied with Harry Potter.

Any idea how the R3 box set of 1-5 will look like?  Will it mirror R1's spectacular treasure chest or simply a bundling of the previous releases into one slipcase?

I've asked warner to provide us with images of their box set.  I know that there is a variant of the box set that comes with a premium item but I doubt that its a treasure chest. Anyway, I'll post once I have something.

I'm having a problem with my online transaction with pinoydvd.biz.  I've recently pre-booked HP5 and yesterday, I logged in to push through with my order.  I entered my shipping preferences (i.e., my shipping address).  When it came to confirming my order, I edited my billing address details since my shipping address is different from my billing address.  Even though I've already entered in my billing address, once it gets to the confirmation page again, it still did not reflect my correct billing address.  No matter what I do (update/delete/add), my billing address details still reflects the address I initially entered as my shipping address.  So, hoping that it was just a glitch in the system, I pushed through with the transaction and was redirected to the YESPayment site where I entered my credit card details.

However, after getting two emails notifying me of my order, I received another email stating that my payment failed.  I assume that it was because of the wrong billing address.  Now, can somebody from pinoydvd.biz help me with this problem?  The wrong billing address will always result to payment failure and I won't be able to use my account to order from pinoydvd.biz, unless I create another account using another email address.  Sayang naman, kasi I want to avail of the discount from the pre-booking and now the site says that HP5 (with dog tag) is now OUT OF STOCK!  And because of this, I would now have to buy the DVD from Astro (or another video store) without any discount.

From what I understand, any edit that affects your credit card info requires manual intervention from Customer Support for security purposes. That said, this should be explicitly explained during the checkout process. In any case, randyv will likely get in touch with you via email.

@hubes - yup, the Blu-ray Spider Man set is already available. Given that it's a Magna release, it's probably the Asian version.

Experienced the same thing recently when I preordered for Transformers. The transaction went through without a hitch even with the wrong billing address, but after that I emailed pinoydvd.biz to have that error corrected in case it affects future transactions. They were very quick to respond to the problem and had that fixed in no time.

firewired is right, editing your billing address does require a manual intervention from .Biz.  Considering that we've made recent changes to  our credit card activation process, we will also change this to allow members to edit themselves the details on their respective billing addresses.  Note however, that billing addresses will in no way affect the result of credit card submissions.  The problem that you encountered was most likely due to a communication error during card processing and Yespayments should have sent you an error message for this.  I guess I'll have to call them up again.

Unlike the the other pre-bookings, the HP 5 pre-booking promo was designed to allow only members who pre-booked first crack at the titles.  So only members who pre-booked are allowed to purchase the DVDs, otherwise, all you'll see is "out of stock".  I'm glad that you found a way around the process.   ;D

Thanks for the response.  I have also received an email reply from .biz regarding this matter.  Just like to inform you that last time I logged into my account, I tried checking out a DVD, but I can't get passed through the Shipping Preferences page.  It keeps looping back to the same despite choosing a preferred address.

Oh how timely your question on the promos.  ;D  We are already busy cooking up a pre-Christmas sale on Dec. 2 starting with Warner.  Most, if not all, of Warner's P299 titles will be repriced to P199.  We are hopeful that they will also include their P199 titles and box sets in the sale.  Warner guaranteed that the repricing will equal if not better their lowest prices ever.  :)

It look like they (Pinoydvd.biz) joined the Magnavision fire sale as well.   Imported DVD as low as 110!  Banner ad link from this forum.

Some neat titles:
Once Upon a Time in Mexico
Beverly Hills Cop III
Rugrats in Paris
Open Season
Strictly Sinatra
Terms of Endearment
Aeon Flux 1 & 2
Sueno
Pope John Paul (CBS)
Riding in the Cars with Boys
Fun with Dick and Jane

and maybe 60-70 other titles.  Definitely worth checking out!

BTW, Across The Universe 2-disc is available there as well.   Free shipping for orders 1000 and above still applies.

And no, I am not connected with .biz, despite this enthusiastic post.  Just got a bunch of bargains, and happy with it. ;)

I'll post my question here since biz has been offline and I'm not sure if they've received my inquiry. I'm trying to make my first order finally, and planning to pay by credit card. So what are the required documents that I need to email, as advised in the site? Sorry if this has been asked many times already, just too busy right now to browse the previous pages. Many thanks!

Whenever I click on the Shopping Cart link, it always ask me to login again. Anyone else having this problem?  :(

remember to tick the Remove box to the left of the item and click Update Contents.. by the way, .biz is now accepting pre-orders for Iron Man, Hulk and the other high-profile releases for October..

saw it too.  problem is ...... would your credit card be charged right away even if the other high profile titles have yet to be released.

i remember when preorders were done w/o paying anything yet.

the pre-orders are working now.. you can proceed to check out already.. chose bank deposit as payment though.. does the 2-day rule still apply for these pre-orders?

it has been a while since the site has been updated.  i guess the site has already lost a lot of iron man sales and now indy 4 and hulk.

I was about to buy/pre-order the 4 titles, but I don't know if I can still qualify to get the bean bag and I posted this question here 2 weeks ago but wasn't replied to. I've already bought Iron Man from Astro.
