Heard of the original telenovela airing locally a few years back. Never got the chance to see it since it was a daytime show if I'm not mistaken. Saw the Bubble Gang parody though and it was very funny. If this were as good as The Devil Wears Prada, we might patronize this more than that hit ABC show. ;D So far, the reviews are stellar. America Ferrara proved to be both equally gifted as a dramatic and comedic thespian in Real Women Have Curves and The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants (she and Amber Tamblyn were the best among the ensemble). And, Vanessa Williams as a bitch? Looks promising.

Betty La Fea is a global phenomenon. Almost every country has a Betty spin off. It was just a matter of time before it actually reached the US.

Go, Betty!
America may be falling for America Ferrera, the star of ABC's Ugly Betty, an underdog that has become the most-watched new series of the fall television season so far.
The comedy, which stars Ferrera as a plain Queens girl who pushed her way into the fashion world, was seen by 16.1 million people in its ABC debut on Thursday night, according to Nielsen Media Research.
All but about a half-dozen of the 24 new series the broadcast networks are introducing this fall have made it onto the air already, and so far Ugly Betty stands at No. 1.
The show did it without the advantage of a strong program airing ahead of it. Shows like Shark and Brothers & Sisters that have had strong debuts were helped because they followed CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Desperate Housewives. Ugly Betty opened the night at 8 p.m. ET.
It was ABC's largest audience in the time period with a scripted show since Matlock in 1995, according to Nielsen Media Research... Read the rest here (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060929/ap_en_tv/tv_ugly_betty_3).
The downside? Less people will get to tune in for The Office. :(

I love this show! The show looked cinematic and classier than the show's pedigree suggests. It was slick and sharp. Great cast headed by the charming America Ferrera. There was no single weak link in the cast, everyone was great. My favorite is Amanda (played by Becki Newton), her "HOE - la" catchprase is a classic! The only drawback is the apparent season long mystery with Fey Somers, I don't know if it's going to be dragged out until the season finale. I dont find it very interesting, but we''ll see, there's still 10+ episodes to see if there's meat to that mystery.

"dude, there's an 'H'".... LOL.
yeah. becki is lovable. steals the show everytime. ;D

There was a new episode this week. Although it was great to hear it, why did they have to use Bebot everytime the Japanese designer appeared? They must really lump us all Asians together.
