Topic: PS3 Slim as a DVD Player

I'm considering getting a PS3 Slim by March.  While this appears to be early, I'd like to be able to research the product before I start saving for it.

Anyway, I'd like to know how well the PS3 performs as an upscaling DVD player.  I know its region locked for DVDs.  How well does it play original DVDs and Jack Sparrow DVDs?  What kind of picture quality do I get with a 32 inch LCD TV?

Back then I've heard that the PS3 isn't so good for movie watching because the lens gives out quickly.  Is still still true for the PS3 Slim or has Sony fixed this problem?

PS3 Slim has dual lence: one for BD and one for DVD I think.. as far as i know, PS3 can upscale dvds only through HDMI. For me, Its a good dvd player but one of the best blu-ray players in the market. and yes, it can play all types of dvds. As far as I know, it has no region locks on dvds, but im not sure.

My Recommendation: If ur just gonna use PS3 for playing dvds, its not recommended since masasayang un BD capabilities niya (at mahal siya masyado to be used as a dvd player). Why not just buy another dvd upscaler for your dvds and use your PS3 as a gaming console or a BD Player? just my 2 cents.

for dvd playback, i think it's region dependent.  i have the fat though not the slim.

Uhuh. I think it'll be much cheaper, and you may be able to get better quality, by getting a dedicated upscaling DVD player instead (I have an Oppo just for this).

i just sold my blu-ray player, di ko kasi gano nagagamit at natigil ang pag collect ng bds.  Im getting a ps3..ano po ba ang dapat i consider when buying a ps3? ung dual lens ba ibig sabihin ok na ok na sya pang BD playback? before diba delikado dahil sa lens? thanks!!!

ah.. i see.. the lastest model of ps3 has dual lens.. meaning 1 lense for dvd playback and 1 for BD. they used this new design to prevent the overuse of the bd lens thus, giving it a longer life span. yup, i think its better to buy a ps3 ksi its a BD player as wells a gaming console.

 I have a PS3 slim and one things for sure its a superb DVD upscaler near Blu-ray quality.  The downside is that its region lock to wherever you PS3 was bought, in my case its R3 only, i could not play my R1 dvd's.

Based on my experienced, just used this PS3 as what they meant to be, BD for BD player, and DVD for DVD player. PS3 either dual mode lens still using the same lens when they die you need to replace it.
Blu Ray lens are likely vulnerable to heat, i can say they have less life hours than a DVD lens.
PS3 are meant for games once you load the games the lens is not continously working unlike BD or DVD playback.
Anyway, you can use it. However, you are risking the life expectancy of the lens. They should last until the new generation comes out right? IMHO

Set the Audio to Bitstream.

Go to settings - then video - then makikita mo yun dun.

The Ps3 is Decoding the audio codec kaya lumalabas sa AVR mo, Multi In.
