Still waiting for Kill Bill - The Whole Bloody Affair for years! Been holding off getting the individual Blu Ray editions for this :). Alot of rumors since 2006 but still no clear release date yet.

Not a movie but a concert

Tina Turner Live in Holland 2009

- a recap of her stunning works in Amsterdam in 1997 and Wembley in 2000.  69 year old hot grandma of rock & roll.  still the same musicians, back-up singers and dancers - you got to see the dancers - probably the hottest group Ive seen in a concert!

Another classic film on the horizon:

Spartacus - 50th Anniversary Blu-ray on May 25th

It's another lousy release from Universal.  Professional reviewers say there's DNR, edge enhancement, and slight color error.

As my co-writer (Brendan) put it, he looks like he’s made out of wax almost or something even though the newfound amount of detail IS present, the choice to “smear” the noise and grain out was just a bad choice and in all honesty, LAZY. This is in by no means a real restoration and I guess that is to be expected out of Universal, a studio that is the oldest in Hollywood and also with that (as a result) owns the biggest library of classic films.

http://www.highdefdiscnews.com/?p=43434

Robert A. Harris, who supervised the excellent restoration of Spartacus on the Criterion DVD, says:

All of the detail captured by Academy Award winning cinematographer Russell Metty’s meticulous large format Technirama camera, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Color Cinematography, is unfortunately also gone.

All high frequency information has been lost, and with it all of the detail in the image.

In its place the newly softened image has been electronically sharpened.  We now have a halos.  Contrast has been boosted to make the image appear sharper than it is, but this is perceived as opposed to actual sharpness.

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/300552/a-few-words-about-spartacus-in-blu-ray

GE (General Electric) now owns 80% of Universal.  Robert A. Harris thinks it's the corporate bosses who choose to cut costs rather than restore catalog titles correctly.

^ I'm sticking to my Spartacus Criterion DVD.

Waiting for Jurassic Park Trilogy in blu-ray.

Also, is there already a Kill Bill uncut version?  I checked Amazon Japan and they do have the twin pack there but no clue as to whether or not it is the uncut version.  :-\

Kundun was recently released on German Region B.

Too bad, a German review says the picture is not good:

http://www.dvduell.de/artikel/blu-ray-screenshots-kundun-1997-martin-scorsese/

Google translation says:

The moving life story of the 14 Dalai Lama says - in colorful, fascinating images, and thus a perfect Blu-ray experience!

A perfect Blu-ray experience? Not at all. From the fascinating images is not much left, because it was so with a DNR filters (Digital Noise Reduction handled) that in the first 22 minutes of the film absolutely nothing is left of detail. The whole is even considered so bad that it looks like a Photoshop filters, which will simulate an oil paint-painting technique

Yes 4:3 pa rin but in 720p.  Ang linaw but only 2ch stereo.  I really hope they'd release this one properly.

Thanks.

Expected ko na rin na 4:3, since AFAIK, This is It was the only MJ video originally shot in wide format.

But sound should be in 5.1 channel at least.

I adjusted the TV and zoomed the player to try to make it fit on a 16:9 frame.  The image was cropped but I think it would still look quite good when properly remastered.

The 2ch audio was surprisingly not bad at all - it was funky, however, songs where MJ sang totally live and with "vocal assistance" were very obvious.  Bistado sa malat...hehehe

Just saw an upload of Killing Fields seemingly sourced from Russian BLURAY encoded in 720p.   I think a lot of people are waiting for a clear version of this film for a long long time.   Hope this is it.
