TCL LCD TV
« on: Jun 22, 2010 at 11:02 AM »
Anybody have any experience with TCL TVs?  I'm not sure if there's a thread already but since the search function is down, I can't search too far back.

I'm interested in getting 24-26 inch LCD TV's and theirs seem to be priced very nicely at around 12.3k and 14.8k respectively and is already Full HD.  Aesthetics and PQ seem better than the Sanyo 24k40 as well when viewing cable TV signal.  Really looks interesting.

Anybody with personal views on TCL?  Should have better support thant the other China brands like Avision or Ovation.

They have also have the L40N9F on sale for only 33k in SM appliance center. Very good price if you ask me. Dunno about the quality though. The salesman said it's a good brand (obviously).

I wonder if its better to get the 22lh20 for 13k.  It's branded but 2" smaller and not Full HD (Not that it matters for these sizes.)

@Blade,

How is the TV viewing and viewing angle?  Seems ok naman when I watched it at Anson's.

got the 24" at only P11K at Anson's Trinoma to use as a computer screen at the office as well as for sneaking in the odd movie/series during off hours. looks good, 1080p seems ok. control options aren't as versatile as my 32LH70, but acceptable. i bought it for the "eye care" energy saving option, so far i haven't strained my eyes looking at it. haven't really fiddled around with the settings yet, or tried watching full length movie. watching HD youtube videos is great; image quality is crisp and clear. e.g. in the dogfight scenes from Clint Eastwood's Firefox, you really see the sharp matte lines around the models. i have yet to attach a regular DVD player; been using my Mac as a source. tried watching the Batman: Animated Series; the image is so clear that you can see the uneveness in the coloring. some moving images seem to break up into scan lines during fast movement, though; i am not sure if that is due to the TV or the computer software. will find out when i get a stand-alone DVD player.

Does this TCL 24" have an IPS panel?

Full HD nga ba yung L24V10F?  According to this review http://2009.hardwarezone.com/ourvoice/blog/in_the_zone/spotlight/2010/03/12/TCL-L24V10F-LCD-HDTV-A-Visual-Appetizer-For-First-Timers

1366x768 daw optimum resolution eh...

can you clarify?

Yes, I can confirm it's full HD, running 1080p at 60Hz. Works pretty well as a computer monitor.

generally, i think if major appliance centers (like SM, Abenson, Anson, etc) carry a brand, it should be, at the very least, "okay" with quality and service.

it's to compare with your own eyes and preference. if they pass your standards, then go go :)

personally, i'd still go with smaller size but know/trusted brand.

better you audition the 40inch tv to other brand
i get this 24inch tv maliit, kasi ung PQ kapag malaking tv na iba na kasi ung quality kitang kita mo ung differences like the devant and gangsklar which i saw in ABENSON when compare sa LG and samsung models

i have 40inch TV got from SnS toshiba 40AV700 ayos na ayos

i want kasi kapag malaking tv na dun sa mga top sa market like LG, SAMSUNG and TOSH ( SONY ayaw super mahal)

nagustuhan ko kasi ung to dahil sa "eye care"

para sa mga bata

mga bros,
I am never a fan of "unknown" and "lesser known" brands but the 24-incher and below TCL LCD TVs WOWED me!
By TOUCH and PRESS the screen method, I confirmed that these 19-24 inches TVs are IPS panel type.
Normally, any size smaller than 32 inches has the TN panel (the lowest form of LCD panel plagued with poor viewing angle problem, that is why I prefer for my PC monitors that are 32-incher or bigger).
Kung okey ang kanilang reliabilty at after sales support, I will 100% recommend these TVs for PC use in favor of the other more popular brands.
The PQ is not that bad too.

Yes aftersales and reability ng unit ang importante kaya nga ako naguguluhan this are my choices to buy on april this year
Please help me to decide;
1.Tcl 40f10 full hd lcd tv around 29k plus ang amount
for me kc ng inaudition sa sm appliance center marilao ok naman ang PQ nya comparable sa sanyo 42 inches full hd lcd na dko matandaan model ng unit
2.Toshiba 40av700 dko alam specs nito pero here in pdvd ganda ng feedback about this unit
3.LG 42ld460 kaso takot ako ab0ut backlight bleeding issue
even i already have Lg 32lf20 full hd lcd tv na wala naman problema and for me ok na ok ang PQ nya
4.SANYO 42 INCHES worth 35k yata yun full hd din cya

which this 4 ang mas ok and madami cons

I have seen and evaluated these models and these are my initial findings:

TCL 40F10, Toshiba 40AV700 and Sanyo 42K40 are using S-PVA (VA) LCD panels. The LG 42LD460 has IPS LCD panel. Through the TOUCH and PRESS the screen method that I do, I can only tell if a panel is TN (Twisted Nematic), VA (Vertical Alignment) or IPS (In-Plane Switching), but can't particularly differentiate from their variations (MVA, SPVA, S-IPS, etc.). Ang TN ang pinakamahinang type of LCD panel na ginagamit kadalasan sa mga PC monitors kasi cheap to build. Ang IPS naman ang pinakamaganda kaso mahal. The VA type naman ay in between sa dalawa and this is widely used by most brands (SONY, Sanyo, Samsung, Sharp, etc.) but implementing the most superior SPVA variation.

All models are with CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) backlights. For me and based on years of observation, the CCFL backlight is far superior to the LED backlights. The WHITE is WARM for the CCFL, while BLUISH WHITE ang sa LED backlights. Ang mga CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) at Plasma ay may WARM WHITE pag dating sa WHITE BALANCE.
Ang AGING ng CCFL ay gradual at lakas lang ng BRIGHTNESS ng backlight ang affected. Sa LED backlit TVs, abrupt ang AGING at affected both ang BRIGHTNESS and WHITE BALANCE (the screen becomes even MORE BLUISH resulting to impaired PQ). Paulit-ulit ko na ho na witness ito all those years from all brands using LED backlight.
Con sa CCFL na LCD TVs, they consume more power compared sa Edge lit LED backlit LCD TVs by approximately 40%.

The four models ho na type nyo are all 60 Hertz refresh rate. For me maganda at preferred ko ang native 60 Hertz na mura pa compared sa mga 120 Hz or 240 Hz models. Take it from the experts here and abroad, the 60 Hz native refresh rate ang preferred nila. Read the articles/reviews of Dr.Raymond Soneira of Displaymate, David Katzmaier of CNET, and others and you will be surprised how we ordinary users misinterpret the TV's specifications lalo sa CONTRAST, 120/240 Hz, judder, etc.

The Toshiba has somewhat grainy or noisy video reproduction. Probably because it has a wider video bandwidth circuitry to make the cable reception similar to the plasma and  CRT TVs (Plasma and CRT TVs have grainy video signal) for SD clarity. Ang Toshiba ang may pinakamagandang TV/SD reproduction. At proper viewing distance, like the plasmas and CRTs, unnoticeable na ho ang noisy or grainy screen at very sharp nga ang antenna/cable signal.

Ang Sanyo at TCL maganda rin. Ang hindi ko lang maunawaan why the TCL big screens do not employ the better IPS panel they used for the 19-24 inches models.

When it comes to RELIABILTY (durability), mahirap masabi maliban na lang we rely on the forums. Pag kasi ho may nasira na TV from a certain brand hindi naman pwede na we immediately conclude na sirain nga. We need exact percentage kung ilan ang failure rate kaso this is very hard since RELIABILTY is time dependent para mapatunayan. So in this case, I will go for the LG because of its renowned after sales support lalo na ang tungkol sa mga feedback na even after the warranty period LG still gives 100% free service (AMAZING !!!!!). Experience ko sa servicing, SAKIT sa ulo ang mga vendors pag tapos na ang warranty period (dapat samahan nila ng sang dosenang paracetamol ang box ng TV).

The other +/- factors are already discussed in some forums/posts kaya no need to mention.

For me, this is my choice :

LG 42LD460 > Toshiba 40AV700 > Sanyo 42K40 / TCL 40F10
