Sirs is there a big difference between the various commercial projector screens that are sold between the 8-12K range vs a DIY screen made with black-out cloth?

I just have a budget HT projector set-up (but its a decent 720p pj) and I dont want to spend another 12k just for a screen if home made screen worth 1k will be almost the same.  I only watch at night and my projector does a measured 800 lumens while in film mode and has good contrast (based on online reviews) so its pretty bright. Thanks!

 ;D

Imho if hindi ka naman maselan and hindi mo naman iview-view ng side by side yung DIY vs branded then I guess ok lang yung diy, heck even a wall painted with white flat-semi gloss paint would suffice na. Just make sure lang na after spending some money on your diy eh hindi ka na maghahanap pa ng branded kasi that would only make your cost bigger :) 1t diy plus 12t branded ;D

One of the knocks against projectors has always been that they're not able to perform to their fullest unless the room is completely dark, but that may finally change if some researchers from Japan's Tohoku University have their way. They've developed a projector screen based on Diffused Light Control (or DLC), which allows only the light from the projector to be diffused towards those looking at the screen, while all other ambient light is either absorbed or reflected away. Of course, that doesn't mean the screen is quite ready for your home theater or boardroom. As you can see above, the current screen is made up of small panels that leave some noticeable seams, and it apparently still has considerable trouble in direct sunlight, although the researchers are confident both of those problems can eventually be overcome. Head on past the break to check it out on video.

instead of painting the screen itself, use a black colored tape or paint a masking tape black  :)

Buhayin ko lang ang thread na ito.  I'll be setting up my projector next month and I would like to canvass for a PJ screen as early as now.  Most likely I'll be needing a 90-100" motorized screen.  Saang store ba nakakabili ng PJ screen, yung meron silang display unit.  Most of the stores I've been to kasi only sell them on per order basis.  Mahirap din kasi yung oorder na di mo nakikita yung actual unit.  Which among the locally available affordable PJ screens is the best?
