Polk Audio is a bit under rated among PDVD members. they are among the best sellers in the US but mainly because they have a good distribution network...

you can audition these speakers at the Cardinal Audio in Greenhills ....

Why are Polk Audio speakers, despite having great products, not popular among Pinoy DVD members? Is it because:

a.) it doesn't suit your taste on sound/looks?
b.) it doesn't fit your budget?
c.) owners were not members of this forum?
d.) owners don't want to flaunt their gears?
e.) many haven't heard of the brand?
f.) many haven't audition of the products yet?
g.) too few dealers carry this brand?
h.) its products sucks?
i.) others (specify)

Mine will be letter b - it's way out of my budget  :P , but I've heard some Polk speakers and they're truly impressive and aesthetically fits my taste.

Peace! :) :) :)

Haven't heard the Polk subs but based on the technical specs, their -3db point is at 32hz for the 404.  Not eactly deep enough when compared to a CHT12 or an ASW600 whose -3db points are in the 25hz- 26hz range - a good 6-7hz deeper for about the same price range.  Just an observation.

Good point sir av-phile1 on your observations basing from the specs. Hindi kaya more musically inclined ang Polk subs than the others?

According to the Polk website:
"Polk loudspeakers are designed first and foremost to be natural and accurate when reproducing all kinds of material. The materials and technologies used in Polk loudspeakers allow them to faithfully reproduce only the sounds or tones that they are asked to reproduce. They faithfully and accurately reproduce the original recordings. Polk loudspeakers are truly able to meet the demands of home theater as well as music."

I don't know if this claim is true, but based from hearing some of the polk speakers, they are really good.

Polk Audio PSW350 50 watts continous average sub ang ganda rin, although 50 watts lang pero ang lakas at ang ganda nang bass sa music at movies, mas nagustuhan ko kesa sa JBL na sub (PB10 ata yun).

Correction please! I own a Polk Audio PSW350 Subwoofer, its built in amplifier is rated 100-watts Continuous into 4 ohms @ 0.05% THD. Dynamic power is rated 260 watts. That's why sabi mo malakas ang tunog. It's a good subwoofer for music and home theater application. It was reviewed in the November or December 2000 Sound and Vision Magazine I think, and was rated among best from the group of subwoofers tested with price range below $500 USD.

I've been using it since year 2001 and I was satisfied with the performance. All you need is proper tuning or blending with your existing speakers and electronics. I also have 2 pairs of Polk Monitor M3 (series I & II).  I've been using it before as my front speakers in tandem with the PSW350 but converted it to back surround and rear surround speakers when I got a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 8.1 for the front or stereo channels only.  Polk are fine sounding speakers but the sound stage produce by the wharf though they have same size driver are much wider and natural. Its my own opinion ha? It depends on your hearing and perception. Just try to audition other brands. Just bear in mind that costlier system doesn't always sound better than that of the cheaper one's. Trust your EARS!

i was able to listen to this speaker pair this morning c/o an audiophile friend (non-member)...driving his VTL 807 monoblock amp and golden tube pre-amp...using cambridge azur 640c CDP, was impressed with these speakers...although a little hard to drive (4-ohms)...but no problem with the VTL amp (which has a 4-ohm and 8-ohm tap, and also has an ultralinear mode @ 120wpc and triode mode @ 50wpc class A)...mids are silky smooth...only played one CD...had to immediately leave his place...but will visit him again next week...

PS: bagay na bagay yung Sabre Stands (c/o Matt)...good choice on the part of the owner! :D :D :D

^^^ bro, for me, yamaha avr's + polk speakers are a near perfect match.

i own a PSW404 sub and they are powerful and deep enough. as for the speakers, i believe there are people who like polk for home audio, not as much as wharfdale maybe, but then again, polks are not in the same price point.  ;D

yep Yamahas are a great match. The Onkyos, Denons, Marantz, etc. shouldn't disappoint ya either.

Best I guess is to try them out in May and if they have all the features you want/need, let the final judge be your ears :)

(only with the LSi series, I would strongly recommend a good amp to maximize its potential)

interesting post i came across on one of the forums talking about the LSi speakers:

"LSI's are deceptively good sounding speakers and you need to spend some quality time with some quality gear to realize how good they really are. They can have some set-up issues in that placement to get the best sound can be tricky, but no trickier than say a pair of SDA's. The Vifa tweeter rules and is so smooth and effortless it seems like it has less accuracy than other speakers, but after through listening one realizes it's the other tweeters that are less accurate even if they play louder and are more strident, etc. The tweeter also has the uncanny ability to lessen some of the harshness, etc. of marginal recordings."

I've heard their car audio equivalents (the Polk SR range) but I haven't had a chance to hear the LSis yet. (That'll ofcourse all change in a few weeks :))
