The Killing
(1956)

4 out of 5

Kubrick's The Killing shows why he is a rising star. It does toe to toe with Hitchcock's finest films around and thinking this would be the tightest heist film from Kubrick.

A Clockwork Orange
(1971)

4.5 out of 5

A very disturbing and violent Kubrick film that gives him the trademark in his finest career. The first half is a picture of brutality, madness and semi pornographic at times added with the most brilliant screenplay portrayed by McDowell. The second half begins with sadness and depression that leads to a new beginning that Kubrick not just want us to see this film, but it has a very deep message into it.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
(2010)

3.5 out of 5

It is hard to tell on how to appreciate Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World but one thing's for sure, the visuals are one of kind that will make a 12 year old stun and fall in love with this.

Schindler's List
(1993)

5 out of 5

Spielberg's Schindler's List means humanitarianism. A very heart whelming film by Spielberg proves he can do better on what he does and it is beyond from it. From the tremendous actors to the depths of the plot that will make you think how valuable human being will be. A must see epic.

The Thing (2011) - A paleontologist was invited to an outpost in Antarctica where an expedition has unearthed something otherworldly - a spacecraft and an alien frozen in time.  Things gone haywire when the alien escapes from his frozen state and kills the crew one after the other.  It copies any human it comes in contact with.  A very good remake from the 1982 version.  Highly recommended scifi horror flick!  ;)

Dreamhouse (2011) - Peter Ward (Daniel Craig) and his family moved in to an old house with a dark history.  Story goes with a lot of twists and surprises.  Thought initially this one as a ghost movie but turned out to be a psycho-thriller.  Eerie background exemplified by the snow covered atmosphere.  Definitely an enjoyable movie that will keep you glued!  ;)

I Spit On Your Grave (2010)

3.5 out of 5

The violence that I Spit On Your Grave gave will not pleased every viewers  while it lasted even the 78 version does. But the idea of overdoing it is pretty bad ass and satisfying at the same time.

The Big Year (2011) - such a powerful cast with Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson.  Movie was about the Big Year - an important event for bird watchers to go around the globe and be able to see the most number of species of birds in a whole year.  The movie will take you to a lot of breathtaking sceneries of America including Alaska.  A lesson to be learned that sometimes a hobby can be an obsession which can make you sacrifice more important things in life.  With the casting, one would expect a laugh out comedy but it is far from that.  It had some scenes which can muster a chuckle but the overall drama and moral is the one that gives this movie substance.

One of the best underrated suspense of all time. Very memorable and a masterpiece on its own which leads to a perfect example of Mystery & Suspense. Brilliant actors and brilliant performances.

Triangle (2009)

3.5 out of 5

Aside from watching Melissa George hotness and performance. Triangle offers a surprising mystery from a phenomena thinking its just another repetition of suspense cliche, but it just out "mind" us throughout the whole thing .

The Girl Who Played with Fire (2010) - this is the 2nd installment of the Millenium Trilogy which started with the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  This is the Swedish version and I was just amazed at how good the book was adapted to film.  Noomi Rapace was just wonderful as Lisbeth Salander.  True to the novel's description.  If I haven't read the book, I might have slept through watching this coz there were some characters and events that might leave you with a lot of questions.  IMHO, my comment on this movie would be different if I haven't read the book first.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest (2010) - the last sequel of the Millenium trilogy.  This is the best among the 3 to wrap up the whole series.  This last part would have answered all of the questions that were raised with the 2 previous movies.

She's All That (1999) - being nostalgic and all, brought out this DVD and watched it again to regain that young childhood feeling.  This movie was the time when Freddie Prinze, Jr. made girls giddy all over.  Rachel Leigh Cook was just charming in this movie.  Ahhh, this movie brings back memories.  Love it!  :D

Trespass (2011)- powerful casting with the tandem of Nicholas Cage and Nicole Kidman.  The acting were just compelling that you get to be immersed in the movie.  I got to think how I would react if a situation like this happens to my family.  On 2nd thought, it wouldn't happen as I am not as filthy rich as a diamond merchant with a porsche, a mansion by the lake and who stashes millions in a fake wall.   ;D  This is a repeat viewing and the impact of the movie was the same as the 1st time I watched it.  Highly recommended!

Our Idiot Brother (2011) - this movie is about a jobless free spirited guy Ned (Paul Rudd) who has 3 sisters undergoing different dilemmas in their lives.   He gets to live with each one of them and at first they would've thought that their freeloading brother was a walking calamity but later realize that his innocence and heart of gold is the one that brings things in order.  This is a dramedy about family values and relationships.  One of my cousins is an exact copy of Ned and it added spice to our movie watching.  :D

BTW, I learned recently that Scarlett Johansson had a very good audition for the role of Lisbeth Salander.

HOLY Fxxx! if she had been casted as Lisbeth

But I fully understood the director's reason for not choosing Scarlett - the male audience would always be waiting for her to remove her clothes, instead of appreciating and concentrating on the movie itself...Pramis I would do my best to accomplish both if the director changes his mind on the 2nd and 3rd parts of Dragon Tattoo Girl...hehehe
