KAIBOER H1055
« on: Jan 29, 2011 at 01:49 PM »
In the search for a cheap, but decent all round Media Player which i can bring anywhere and would play almost if not all files I can throw at it...enter the KAIBOER H1055

I had my doubts but after reading these reviews it really piqued my curiosity and made me even want to acquire one myself.

http://www.futeko.com/products/MP00025/kaiboer-h1055-realtek-sdk-4.php

http://www.iboum.com/pr/kaih1055.php

After reading ALFIE's take on this player it sealed the deal and went to buy it at Digitag.
Upon opening the player it was decently packed and had a good non plasticky el cheapo feel unlike some on the market at this CRAZY price @ 2.5K with 3 mos warranty. The remote was even better than my Xtreamer in terms of responsiveness and size. On boot-up its lightning fast compared to my EG-31B and Xtreamer. Recognizing my 3 1TB external drives hooked up on a multiple USB plug was a breeze. Initial scan finished after 10-15 seconds. After watching 2-3 movies non-stop it didnt feel warm like my Xtreamer and 31B both with fans. GUI is excellent and very user friendly. PQ and SQ is comparable with the 31B and Xtreamer at default settings. All 3 players can let you tweak the PQ settings to ones liking. I believe that PQ and SQ is just a matter of tweaking and the quality of the file used. This is a matter of debate in some forums but I stand by this statemant at the moment until I find a night and day difference. My only gripe is its firmware support and durability which i will know in the following months. My take on the H1055 - 9/10

location - almost at the corner of Broadway and Aurora blvd. opposite the gas station.

picked up two of these already last december. for me and for my dad who is not a techie.

GUI is very simple, best for my dad. though he accidentally erased some movie files while browsing.

i've no complaints, playback of problematic mkv works on H1055 without remuxing unlike 1073 based chips.

minor irritation for me would me the remote with chinese translation of some buttons which clutters the clicker pad. an optical out would be nice as addition to the coax digital out, but hey you got HDMI already for dugital audio for possible 7.1. (i have no files to try this)

for the price, i would be satisfired if it serves me for two yeasrs. by then a new chip or device may be available and upgrading wouldnt be a difficult decision. overall money worth spent.

Hi Esi,
Congrats on your purchase, I got myself another unit, the 1055plus, I was about to get the 1073plus, however, upon closer scrutiny, the 1055 chipset seems to boot faster and the 1073 has almost the same interface as that of the HDPro, furthermore it was far cheaper at 3.5K since the 1073 costs 4.3K, however both are much cheaper than the Egreat that goes for 7++K in a group buy and the MEDEBER that hovers around the same price range, furthermore as of the present time, the 1055 chipset is still the most affordable and functional among the Realtek chips out in the market.
The 2.5K price of the 1055M is really worth the price and for it's portability(easier to pack than the WDHDTV which is fatter) best suited as a travel companion.

............BTW......don't worry about firmware updates....my HDPro lessened it's functionality with the upgrade same thing with my Xtreamer, and as posted by one member, it seems the FW upgrades will cure another but will add other problems.
............what is important is that it functions more at the time it was purchased and thank your luck that you only have to pay 2.5K or 3.5K for it, unlike others who have to shell out 6-7++K for their media players.  ;) ;) :D ;D ;D

EDIT:

i've read in their website na walang optical out yung 1055plus. how much is the 1073?

Being pleased with the performance of H1055, I acquired the H1055plus.
Refer to my previous post for the review of H1055.

The GUI remain simple and operation very responsive. It plays all my media files without hickups. It is the H1055 without the clutter of cables for external hard disk. Hard disk installation is very easy (open slot, plug HD, slide to close and play). Option for external HD is still present for file transfer and playback.

I prefer the unit's appearance over the H1055, with all black front with LED display. The clicker is now color white. It stands out over my other AV RCs, thus easy to locate. Hopefully it doesnt turn yellow over the years.

The firmware is easy to upgrade over the system menu. However, no reset button or emergency sequence in case error while updgrading. So far firmware update support is frequent. Their website posted 3 upgrades from initial release (Nov 2010??), the latest was on 19 Jan 2011.

This gadget is pure HighDef media player. It is connected to my LCD via HDMI and my receiver via digital coax. It decodes DTS onto my TV speakers even with my receiver turned off. It compliments my bluray player which i'll use for netstreaming.

For P3,500 ONLY, with free HDMI cable I'll be satisfied if it last 2 years by then new gadgets are out (3D maybe) and upgrading won't be a difficult decision.

I decided to keep my 1055M together with my 1055Plus...the Remote is a clone, works on both.

Anyway for those who have both did you upgrade the Firmware of the 1055Plus??
I cannot get any from the Kaiboer website, the 1055 has but my 1055M has the latest firmware when I checked....now will this be the same for the 1055plus.

BTW I went back yesterday and planned to get the 1073 plus(I figured add all of them it's just as if I got myself a MED8er and Egreat with that price) anyway, except that it can now read MKVs that cannot be read by my HDPro, but was read by my Xtreamer(but lose some of it's old functions, like the search time), I then decided that the 1055Plsu is inideed the better buy and getting the 1073Plus will be redundant if one already owns the Xtremer and HDPro(same chipset).

Hi Guys,

I just got the H1055 Plus today.

This is my first HD Media Tank.

Initially I am choosing between the H1073 Plus and the H1055 plus but after critical comparison, I ended up getting the H1055 Plus due to the following points which I think would work to my advantage:

1. H1055 chipset is faster than H1073DD+ 500MHz vs. 400MHz Additional 25% processing power.

2. Cheaper !  P3,500 already with HDMI cable included in the package vs. P4,300 I think you need to buy the HDMI Cable separately.

3. Aside from memory and processing speed and Optical / SPDIF out differences between the two, one thing to consider is the Netwokability of the H1073 Plus - which I do not need because it is not very practical to get the source over the internet without high speed internet connection. Also, It would cost a lot in terms of electricity consumption if this will be used for BT movie download.

Some positive observations:

1. Set-up is very easy, including connections up to playing the first movie - less than 30 mins.

2. Video quality is superb - I don't have yet the MKV/ Full HD movies and I just played "The Hottie and the Nottie" which is just around 700MB at 720p resolution and I can'y complain.

Given quality media files - I am sure this player will impress you.

3. Audio quality - I hooked it up to my Denon AVR-391 - with just PCM input available - audio is very clear, crisp and Superb! I can't wait to feed it with DTS-HD and True HD material.

With the price, features and quality of the product - it worth every penny.

Good luck guys! I hope you enjoy your Media Players!

Regards,

"XGZ"

Also, the website http://www.futeko.com/products/MP00025.php states that the H1055 supports Ext2 files but the Kaiboer site does not say so.  I don't have a Mac so I cannot confirm. Anybody???  ???

Hi pao-what i mean is it is more costly compared to pre-loading it. Mostly bt download and ripped for transfer movies are not recent ones. Tnx .i admire your keen eye for details.

May i know the basis for saying H1055 is faster than H1073? Coz from most reads, 1073DD+ most offer H1055 over 1073DD+ in terms of player segmentation.  for example - Near to  H1055 Plus is  Egreat R6B (http://www.egreatworld.com/en/product-detail-254.html) is off Realtek 1055, USB HD media player with DTS + DD downmix.

My take on the Speed of this media player. Ive compared a 1073 and 1055 players from the same maker and it really IS faster in boot up ( 5-6 seconds ) scanning 1-2 TB external drives anywhere between 10-16 seconds on initial scan and a matter of 3-5 seconds on subsequent usage. The results may vary among other users. Hope this helps. At the end of the day this being a super fast performer is a welcome bonus to the Crazy Price!!! ;)

Simply put....500Mhz for the 1055 against 400Mhz for the 1073. The advantage of the 1073DD and 1283+ is that both can both passthrough DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD.

The 1055plus seems to be the current bang for the buck, with view compromises on features.

I friend of mine mind end up getting one.  Can't wait to test it.  :D
