APPLE TV2, iPAD & XBMC
« on: Jan 21, 2011 at 06:52 PM »
Just like to share, ATV2 & iPAD just got XBMC'ed.

Just tried it on my iPAD 3g and it looks good :) (very good indeed). Haven't tested it fully, as I'll be trying to have it on my ATV2.

This gotta be the best app on an IOS device, best of it is it's free :) (but you need to be JB'ed & on 4.1 FW or higher)

Yes it can play any format that XBMC can play, although the output is limited to 720p. It has some issues playing video format that's higly compressed and very big mkv's. Yes, you need to jailbreak it as I mentioned on the first post. I am just waiting for the untethered jailbreak (kasi ngayon medyo kumplikado).

ATV2 - $ 99 :D Astig di ba :)

Just wanted to post some updates. I've set up 3 atv2s in our house, bought my bro & sis also. And have to say that I am very pleased with it, we're streaming contents with 2 freenas servers. Total of 10TB worth of media which consists of 25% anime, 25% korea novela, 25% kids cartoons and the rest is english/pinoy movies.

Sorry Bro but I don't have a receiver to test it though (no space for that setup). I'm still on 4.2.1 and I believe from what the XBMC forum users says that I works but not with the new/current 4.3.1 IOS FW.

In regards with mkv's that have header compression which I think is usually found mostly on anime mkv's (sorry comma key on my KB is not working) is not a real issue because I usually download them only from one source and they all play well and also they are usually played on an XTreamer/LCD I've setup for my daughter.

Only issue I found is when playing some HD videos encoded in XVID/DIVx but what I usually download now is encoded in x264 on mkv containers.

Thanks Macmel. Looks like a good alternative for those with Nas and have their media players directly connected to the tv. I really like the interface of xbmc. How's the interface? Is it as smooth as xbmc on pc?

Yes it really looks nice, but not all are working. I haven't tested
It with other skins and not too many plugins. I'll probably take some screenies of my cramped setup :D

Macmel,

Are you experiencing any audio problem? Using the official xbmc build on ios 4.1.1, i get problems with audio separation when downmixed to 2 channels. It is a known bug with the official build. Have you tried installing the nightly build?

Beefy,

Sorry, I haven't tried the unofficial builds. Just too busy to do anything at the moment :(
