I have an Acer X3200, I dont think you can upgrade the video card. There's no more space inside.

NOPE....somebody upgraded his, check out the link; http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=83055.msg847789#msg847789

Here's the quote:

Possible na ma-upgrade yung video card but sila ang mag upupgrade (acer).
Nag tanaong na kasi ako dati eh! yung model ay LC310-C43.
Bali yung video card ay galing sa kanila. Parang sa Dell din. Optional yung upgade
ng video card...

Could somebody suggest a good video card for the Acer X3200?
The video card must be small enough to fit inside, Powerful enough for today's demanding games.
The Acer X3200 Power Supply is only 200 watts (if Im not mistaken).

The max you can use is an geforce 8400, i have seen some with a low profile. I saw a model that is passively cooled and given the power supply anything more powerful than this (assuming it fits) wont work.

Low profile lang ba kakasya?

Kung walang problema sa height and kung meron empty space next to the graphics card, find the 8600GTS specially re-designed by Leadtek.  It's quite short but the fan is dual-slot fat.  I sold 2 of this sa TipicPC last June and August lang.  Kung walang space on the side, find single-slot fan 8600 GT.

Pero kung low profile lang talaga pede, I dont know what's the best card you can insert.

guys pa suggest naman ng ok na av receiver to connect to auzen xplosion card.  don't need hdmi since i will connect from video card to lcd tv.  just need something that will work well with my sound card and amplify and sound good enough to fill a 3m x 5m bedroom.  i do about 60% movies, 30% gaming 10% music. also i would like to keep both arms and legs if possible. thanks!

Any Entry level amp will do, as long as you connect via Optical or Coaxial Digital. Just configure it on your desktop audio out.

The cheapest entry level amp that has a Dolby Digital and DTS capabilities ranges from 9K-13K, and that is brand new, or you can check out the market place thread for amplifiers if a used amplifier is OK with you.

Can the HTPC solely replace the DVD player in terms of playability?  What brand of DVDRom is the best in terms of playability?

The PC is the original upscaling DVD player.   Maganda rin NEC or Matsucrapa brands.

I recommend more on LG when it comes to DVD-writers. Just browse through tipidpc to see feedbacks of different users.

My friend, why use the optical drive, when it's better to save the files and use the HDD.

It'll only take 4 minutes to decrypt and save the vob files to your HDD,whereas a movie viewed will utilized the lens for the whole running time.

Once decrypted, there's no region lock, and it's less power consumming which will prolong lens life.

Use the Optical drive only for burning or the DVDROM for original games that requires you to place the disc for authenticity while playing.

PowerDVD 8 plays your VOB files without hiccups.

Try it and judge for yourself.  ;D

pasingit lng po..may question po ako..dapat po ba sa laptop naka specify kung yung headphone out ay pwedeng gawing din spdif out? thanks...:)

Yes, you just need to set the audio out settings in the audio properties and you must have the proper digital cable.

Since most laptops are using the 3.5mm audio port for both analog stereo and optical digital out, you need an optical cable and a 3.5mm converter like this:

This is a 62 page thread now which is begging to be retired. There's an entire board/subforum for HTPCs now so I'm encouraging members to start new threads with more topic-specific discussions.

Thanks.
