Lakas ng Machine mo! ayos yan. Actually you can use any graphics card. Of course I would recommend ATI since you can do interlaced resolutions with it (1080i) and I suggest you should. I use an ATI 9600pro but even an ATI Radeon VE is good for video playback, just go choose higher ATI's cards if you want better game performance. Geforce cards are ok but you can only go up to 540p.  Before connecting your computer to your Pixelplus, you have to make sure that the special resolutions are already set.  Set them using a regular monitor first to avoid damaging your TV.   Use powerstrip to create custom resolutions.  Remember your TV can only support 50 to 60hz vertical resolution
(pixelplus, we have the same TV) anything under or more than that can damage your TV.  Make sure that the resolutions you create with powerstrip fall under the allowable vertical frequencies.
thanks.  will update you soon to get more advice.
shalom :)

medyo OT.  Anybody considering a radical case mod like JPadua? FYI, True Value in Shangri-La is a having a buy one take one sale on Talon Power tools.  The "dremel" like hand tool sells for P3,170.

You can get another tool for your "take one" or better yet get another pdvd member to split the purchase and get two of the same kind.

DIY LCD Display
Made my own LCD display screen over the weekend, still have to integrate this within the case but at least I got it working! here are some pics.

Opened up an old Printer Cable, took note of wiring of the pins.  Soldered a small 5k rheostat to control the LCD contrast.

connected the wires to the correct pinouts on the LCD, connected a molex plug to power the backlight.

Just plugged my DIY LCD into the Parallel port, run the LCD Software.  (LCD Winamp Plug-in is so cool!)

pare, ang lupet mo talaga !  ;D

This is great ! where did you source your LCD display and how much did you ended up paying for it?

For the schematics, did you patterned it from somewhere or just followed a gameplan you developed yourself.

Galing 'pre !  ::)

Since wala sa pinas ang mga LCD Displays talaga yung mga readymade na pang PC, almost broke open my old pager for the LCD hahah. Daming schematics floating around the internet.  basic pinouts lang direct from the parallel port to the LCD. If you have any old electronic equipment, and has and LCD... check if it has 14pins and 2 pins for +,- malamang pwede yun :D  the LCD has to be compatible with 44780 na LCD chip to be able to interface with a parallel port. :D

shalom :)

How do you connect your HTPC to your TV? S-video or through VGA cable?

VGA is much much much much much much much much better than s-video :)

S-video uses DACs, Digital to Analog Converters.  Signal is compromised, plus you are only limited to the resolutions supported by the DACs highest would be 1024x768

Direct VGA you get a pure Signal from your videocard straight to your TV.  Clearest possible picture you can achieve playing a DVD to output to your TV/HD monitor.

My resolution is 1620x1080i ... maxed it out! :)

For your kiss DVD player, experiment first by connecting it to a computer monitor.  If it works, I have a feeling the resolution would only be 720x480 (standard DVD resolution) that would be 480p... if you have an HDTV that has a VGA input plug... plug it!  progressive na rin yan.. its the same as using component cables and using progressive scan.

Kagandahan sa HTPC you can customize your resolution to the capabilities of your VGA card and TV :)
all progressive scan TV's can do 480p, if your TV supports 1080i you can do 540p and 1080i.  If your TV can do 720p then you're in the money! thats the best resolution you can achieve.

Actually kahit anong Radeon, ok for DVD :D hehe tama ka I'd say radeon.  But of course the graphics card question would be more of what you need it for.  If you are more concerned with gaming performance, you can save on cash and go with Nvidia, ok din ang DVD playback niya and you can go 540p (di nga lang 1080i) if you want gaming performance on a radeon medyo mahal na! heheh thats why I got a 9600 pro... hehe ouch!

looking to upgrade din ako to a radeon - kahit 9100 lang muna.... im currently using gf4mx440 - 8x, pwede na...
