Panasonic X30 review (42/50)

DVD:

Being a 720p native model, again these entry level models from Panasonic does wonders for DVD. Pictures are crisp with vibrant colors, and we did not see any pixel breaks or motion blurs during high speed scenes. Black level for now, remains solid and stable with no hints of contrast fluctuations. However, long term black stability is something we could never test with "showroom set" review environments.

Blu-Ray/NMT/High-Def:

True high definition materials really shine on High-def TVs, despite being a "mere 720p" plasma...The X30 dazzles with very well laid blu-ray pictures from a PS3. Colors are for the most part are accurate, with no bleeds and overly zealous reds (Yes, I'm looking straight at you Samsung plasma ;)). As usual, Panasonic plasma models do not have problems with motion handling, enabling the X30 to handle all sorts of high def movies with very little to no issues at all.

Console gaming:

Input response time has never been an issue with Panasonic and the X30 is no exception! You can play input sensitive games like Marvel vs Capcom 3 with pin point accuracy, and you don't have to worry about lags you'd usually get with slower TVs.

The downside:

After all those nice words for the X30, allow me to relay my gripe/s and I do believe its a fair observation:

We did not or we hardly saw any difference between the X30 and the older X20

The X30 is almost like an exact clone of the X20 in terms of picture quality! Making me say that the X30 is  like an X20 in a new TV housing and a big "Boooooo" to Panasonic for not offering anything substantially new on their 720p entry level line.

Don't get me wrong, the X30 is a very good looking and well performing plasma TV that beats most or nearly all entry level models along with their formats out there. But if you're like me, who tends to jump from one model year after year with great anticipation of change - You'll be disappointed!

-conclusion to follow-

@barrister

Thanks partner ;)

On to the conclusion:

Pros
+Very good dvd picture quality
+Great true high definition picture performance despite being "just" a 720p native TV
+Superb viewing angles
+Very good screen uniformity (no clouds and overly bright screen areas)
+Spot on input response time for games
+Very well priced

Cons
-Reflective screen
-Green phosphor lag during high contrast scenes
-An X20 clone in a new suit

The Panasonic X30 is a great cost effective (entry level) plasma that beats most FULLHD (1080p) native screens in the very competitive budget segment of the market. What you get is a no frills, very straight to the point TV, with very credible picture performance for both upscaled and true high definition formats.

If this is your first foray into the world of high definition, then the X30 is probably your best four wheels and a seat. Coming off with a very attractive price, to set your journey right without blowing off your wallet! And the need to trim juniors tuition fee to get your movie fix ;D

But for those of you who already own the older C10 and X20 models, I seriously doubt you'd need to upgrade to the X30. That is...in my very honest opinion - Just a lame rehash of the old without giving us something truly new.

Other 2011 models are on the way like the FULLHD U30 and the 3-D G30, and I do hope they are not mere re-skinned U20's and V20's.

Panasonic's motto of having "ideas for life" rockets off as "running out of ideas for life" with this particular model in the area of product innovation.

May paraan ba para mabawasan ang pagiging reflective ng panel nito,..?
Well aside sa pagbabago ng lighting ng room,...
A friend of mine bought an LCD instead, dahil nakikita nga daw nya ang sarili nya sa screen,
ganun daw ka-reflective ang screen ng mga bagong panels na ito...

too bad...

i doubt mababawasan mababawasan yan.. made for movie watching yan (aka cinema lightings).. (kasi mura)

ako may question: vga connection lang kasi ako from my laptop.. masama ba sa tv kung taasan ko yung refresh rate nito from 60 to 75 or 80hz?

Wala tsip! Lowering your lights will just lower the "reflectivity", to eliminate the issue, your lights should be totally off for the most part.

Para sa akin tsip! Gusto ko ng reflective panel mas glossy yung pic ;)

A big thanks to Sights and Sounds for allowing us to review the panel!

@Oloap

Enough to say that I find the Samsung model a bit reddish, while the LG looks a bit pale against the X30 in a dark room environment.

@eoman

If you're going for the size, then it's an ok upgrade.
