the bobcats badly need to add a player that can infuse a winning attitude to the team. MKG fits that bill. I was a bit surprised at the 3 pick though. I know Bradley Beal is one of the best scorers in the class, but I never thought he can get as high as 3rd overall. Another big surprise for me is perry jones slipping to 28th pick. He is a big steal for OKC imo.

every year, the NY Knicks are well represented in the draft.  ;D

too bad the Knicks didn't have a 1st round pick, they only got Kostas Papanikolaou in the 2nd round.

I was also surprised he fell down the draft that much.

Detroit would probably play Drummond at 5 and shift Monroe to the 4

they would want to conserve Monroe on offense and ask Drummond to defend the low post

One thing I've noticed from watching the draft earlier ...... a good majority of the draftees were forwards and tall SG's.

Just goes to show how the game has evolved from the last gen ..... traditional back-to-the-basket bigs are few and far between ..... it's all tweeners, combo-players, etc now.

================================================================================

Been reading good things about #4 pick Dion Waiters ..... some scouts comparing him to D-Wade.

Of course, more than a few recent draftees have been labeled as the next Wade ..... things didn't turn out as expected (Randy Foye ...... having a decent LAC stint though).  :D

So aside from Wade, Bosh has also begged off from the US basketball team. They're really starting to look thin up front without Howard, Aldridge, etc. - not that it's a major concern, but I guess still a concern for Coach K.

IMO the following players should make the cut for the 12-man roster, based on the current pool:

1. K. Bryant
2. L. James
3. K. Durant
4. C. Paul
5. Deron Williams
6. K. Love
7. A. Iguodala
8. R. Westbrook
9. C. Anthony
10. T. Chandler
11. B. Griffin
12. Anthony Davis

Reserves:

1. R. Gay
2. J. Harden
3. E. Gordon
4. L. Odom

Darius Earvin Johnson-Odom to be exact (what an epic name! Magic Johnson na, Lamar Odom pa! hehe)

and Jim Buss paid $500,000 just to get his draft rights from the Mavs

How I wish Lamar is in a Lakers uniform...

+1

the Lakers miss that firepower off the bench and his playmaking ability

miami in the plans for ray allen?

http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2012/06/29/miami-in-the-plans-for-ray-allen/?ls=iref%3Anbahpt1

Ray Allen would be an excellent acquisition for Miami, just imagine him coming off the bench to relieve Dwyane Wade.

Miami is also rumored to be in the hunt to sign Chris Kaman, who's now an unrestricted free agent.

Spending on free agents last season would not be the same as the upcoming season.  New luxury tax penalties would be more expensive starting in the upcoming year.

It used to be if you go over the salary cap by 20M, you pay a luxury tax of 20M.  This season when your above 20M, you expect to pay around 45M.

i thik they can only offer the vet's (veteran, not veterinarian! haha) minimum which is $1m

and the mini MLE which is $3 million

the lure of winning a championship is their biggest recruiting asset for hungry veterans and role players

2013-2014 pa yung harsher luxury tax, mga sir. Pwede pa sa full MLE si Kaman o si Ray Allen sa 2012-13 season.

With free agency coming, Riley hopeful that NBA champion Heat can get even better
TIM REYNOLDS  AP Sports Writer
First Posted: June 29, 2012 - 1:02 pm
Last Updated: June 29, 2012 - 1:03 pm

Quote
The Heat spent years making sure they would have the spending capability to land a trio like James, Wade and Bosh in 2010. This summer, Riley and the Heat will go into free agency only able to offer the mini mid-level exception of $3 million, or a veteran's minimum contract of about $1 million, or the ability to package some future draft picks in trades. Moving players through trades is another option, though Riley said the Heat are "not exploring" that yet.

I think you're right.  However this would still affect current free agent signings as even veteran's signing for the mini MLE would want a multi-year contract as opposed to a 1 year deal.

kaya hindi makaporma ang Lakers sa free agency, matindi ang payroll nila eh.  ;D

correct if me im wrong..

the harsher luxury tax is meant to prevent teams from getting multiple superstars with superstar contracts, right?

I think it's more of preventingf richer organizations out-bidding modest teams to sign superstars.

Pag inamnesty pala nila si Mike Miller. Tsaka i-trade si James Jones(only 1.5 mil player option next yr.), without taking on any contracts, the Heat can go below the luxury level.

Baka yun din ang rason nila sa pag-trade kay Arnett Moultrie. Ayaw nila ng guaranteed contract.

i think during the recent lockout, the Lakers and the Heat (and the Knicks too) were on the same side.

i remember Heat owner Micky Arison got into a little bit of trouble with the NBA for responding to a fan on twitter

Quote
The most serious one came when Arison responded to a fan who wrote: "How's it feel to be apart of ruining the best game in the world? NBA owners/players don't give a damn about fans and guess what? Fans provide all the money you're fighting over & you greedy (expletive) pigs. Arison replied: "You are barking at the wrong owner."

the NBA eventually slapped him with a $500,000 fine. ouch!

I read that the Heat will pay around $5mil this year on luxury tax even without signing a free-agent. by 2014 they will pay around $15mil on luxury tax.
