4K Resolution TV's
« on: Jan 08, 2012 at 09:15 AM »
Feeling inhibited by the 1080p limit on your tv?  Why don't you try 4K?  :D

Standard
Resolution
Aspect Ratio
Pixels
Full Aperture 4K   4096 × 3112
1.32:1
12,746,752
Academy 4K   3656 × 2664
1.37:1
9,739,584
Digital cinema 4K   4096 × 1714
2.39:1
7,020,544
Digital cinema 4K   3996 × 2160
1.85:1
8,631,360

4K is effectively 4 times the resolution of a standard blu-ray.   ;D

You might say that there is very little commercial content around that is available in this resolution.  This is definitely true, which is why the 4K tv's that will be on sale this year will have built-in upscalers.

Wait for news on the coming 2012 Consumer Electronics Show and see what's next: 4K TV's.  ;)

Here's an example: an 84-inch monster from LG which has what LG calls "ultra definition"

Has controllable 3D depth, is a smart tv (has an available 1000+ apps) and supposedly is voice-controllable.
