Philips BDP3100
« on: Jun 10, 2012 at 02:34 PM »
I got one unit of this to be a back-up bd player but ended up using it as a regular dvd player, after hacking it to be region free and replace my overused Pioneer DV220K. To my surprise it was even able to play the ancient VCDs which is unheard of with bd players! Wow! Now it is my all-around video player and definitely elated to be an owner of this unit! Bang for the buck talaga!!! ;D ;D ;D

You don't need to hack if you don't want to but if you do it makes it play dvds from all region instead of sticking to its region 3 default. I've already watched reg 1, 2 and 3 dvds with this unit without any hitch.

^hi sir.
after performing the dvd region hack, have you updated the firmware?  not sure if updating the firmware will mess up the dvd region hack.

Haven't tried it yet. If nothing seems wrong I don't think I'll have to baka biglang magluko like in my former player LG BD370, naghahang at tumitigil na nung inapgrade ko yung firmware. Don't want that to happen again.

Haven't tried using the usb slot since I have a separate media player but I believe it reads mkvs but cannot decode all types of audio. Naipost na dun sa marketplace na it reads 500gb hdd but I don't know if it does the same for 1tb or higher capacity.

Sir whats the difference between a 3100 and a 2700 ?

2700 could not decode DTS HD Master. Only Dolby Tru Hd. That is why i want to buy a 3100 instead.

I recently tried hooking up my 1TB external HDD with mkv files and it worked/played. However, the browser of the BD player took soooooooooo loooong to load the movie file.  Well... It played and nice pic quality too.

I've also tried using the usb slot to read my external hdd and though it did gapang naman sa bagal so I got impatient and junked the idea of using it as media player.Besides it doesn't support all types of audio so went back to the dedicated media player.
