« on: Feb 05, 2012 at 11:25 AM »
I did a search in pdvd and notice non came up with cinavia. it an annoying drm scheme that plays a stupid water mark audio that you can't hear. it seems only sony is pushing for this.

bro, did the warning message disappear after the firmware upgrade?

scifi-fan warned us about this cinavia.
i think its part reason why one NMT vendor decided to suspend their sigma 8643 production. is this good bye to BD.iso?

from wikipedia link above:
Quote
Cinavia was first introduced into the PlayStation 3 with the November 19, 2009 update of the system software to Version 3.10

previously there was a list of cinavia protected movies and compliant hardware/firmware versions on that article but looks like it has been removed. that would be moot though, as cinavia is now part of AACS, the standard DRM protection in use by BDs (effective Feb 2012 onwards)

from what i hear, Egreat placed on hold Sigma 8643 newer releases, despite S900 and S800 being a success. I speculate its due to the  newer sigma chip batch since cinevia protection is on chip. the old units na 8643 based arent affected.

i believe the devices affected would be limited to (1) blu-ray players and (2) nmt/media players that support BD Menu navigation

Will it only happen if you play downloaded movies/content to the player? Or also Bluray discs?

Mayron rin bang Cinavia yung mga NMTs?

Cinavia is currently mandatory for blu-ray players only, NMT manufacturers would be shooting themselves in the foot if they implement any sort of DRM in their products, given that the vast majority of their users utilize DRM-free downloaded media

no issues with genuine BDs played on BD players.

no issues with unauthorized copies played on NMTs.

if a cinavia protected movie is played on a BD player also capable of reading downloaded media, content protection will engage.

Clarify lang, is cinavia just firmware of the player? or is that coupled with the BD material(i.e. material is encoded to play only on cinavia)?

sa PC/laptop/media playe na lang kayo magplay ng downloaded files nyo. :D

although mabibilang pa lang naman yung movies na may DRM na compliant with cinavia e. I remember Zookeeper and Think Like A Man (sa mga natry ko and i've only tried a few downloaded movies lang din naman just to test if they're worth owning on blu ray)

Just discovered about Cinavia now.  Played "Lockout" HK BD in my recently patched PS3 and audio muted after a couple of minutes while I was watching.  I can't find any solution to this in the net aside from some discussion forums saying you can work around the issue by changing the PS3's date every 20 or so minutes when the Cinavia Error Code appears.  Bad trip.  I'm new to PS3 and Blu-rays kasi... haay... :P

What does NMT and XBMC mean?

What does NMT and XBMC mean?

NMT = Network Media Tank or HD Media player and relatively out of the box, just plug your disk
XBMC is the interface you'll want to  load in a PC to be a media player station (Home Theater PC  ~ HTPC) (http://xbmc.org/)

Thanks for the info sir.  If I use XMBC and installed a Blu-ray Drive in my PC, can it somehow solve/bypass the Cinavia problem when playing Blu-ray discs directly?

best we ask our  HTPC guru here :) I think its the material/content that has protection so bypassing might be difficult

Found this software that can bypass Cinavia protection on the PS3: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVDFab

But haven't tried it yet...
