I presently have 4 Panny plasmas (PV70, PV8, X50, UT30) and 2 of these are of the same models that were posted. I fear of the early demise of these TVs as well. If this thread report more dead plasmas, I would consider buying LCD/LED TVs in the future.  I have observed that computer monitor LCDs last long. Would this also apply to LCD TVs?

pwede sir considering computer monitors are open almost 24/7
so far buhay pa yung panny lcd ko ^-^

Nice observation. My old 4:3 LG monitor is still working after 7 years. But hindi nga kaya kasi old model ito? Kung baga, masmahaba pa ang "design" life expectancy.

If we will base the lifespan ng panel natin, hamak haba ng buhay talaga ng mga LCD monitors natin,

Most likely. Computer monitors also have less electronics in them, in general (fewer components to fail).

Based on the chart below, it seems like Sharp is ahead by having very few significant or severe problems. LG and Panasonic come in next (the satisfaction with reliability part doesn't make much sense to me).

our office has been using Viewsonic LCD PC monitors for the past 6 years already without shutting it off since we are a 24/7 type of company. none has been replaced so far. In contrast out Samsung Plasma's in the pantry gave up the ghost after just 2 years.

Wow Samsung is not on the top also. Hmmm. Any reactions from the Samsung users?

Mahaba buhay ng mga LCDs depending on brand.

madalas na masira sa field ion LG LCD monitors are the powersupply pero that's running 24/7 in a confined, non-aircon room so operating environmental has to do with it.

I'd think plasma for its power consumption would tend to dissipate more ambient heat as well compared sa LCD/LEDs.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I wanted to know from the OP--were you able to repair your 42PV70? Mine recently lost it's picture (but with sound)--I already brought a replacement (bigger of course :-D), but wanted to know options if I can still get the old plasma repaired.

TIA!

Well good news--Gain Service Center just called and said they were able to repair it. Actually, when I brought the plasma (to recap a 42PV70) to them earlier this week, it worked with no issues! They quoted me PHP2K for repairing "loose connections"--whatever that means.

The repair guy who visited us last week to try to diagnose it said that the power supply capacitors were already starting to expand but it wasn't related to the problem we were seeing (i.e. no video but with sound).

I'm passing it onto my dad (who'll be happy to replace his 27" bedroom tv with this beast) but I'm concerned that the problem may resurface later on--we'll see.

I guess that means I'm holding on to my Sony Wega Flat CRT for as long as possible.  Life span of 3 to 6 years for LDC/LED/Plasma?  My last TV was an AIWA 14" CRT.  Even that lasted 9 years.

Hi guys, I still have this unit (42PV70).  Mine works when you just turn the unit on but after a few minutes of use, green specs start to show up.  Anybody know what the problem is and if it can still be fixed?

Same here, proud owner of two 29" Sony Wega Flat CRT circa 2007. Both still alive and kicking to this day. No issues, except that the remote controls now show some signs of fading. This CRT series has got to be one of the most durable Sony-branded electronics I bought (along with a Sony high-end DVD player circa 2003 which used to cost P18,000 back in the day).

My Sharp Aquos 55" LED lasted 4.5 years.

Thanks pekspert!  Have actually done this and it prolongs the display without green specks but after a while, it still comes out.  The longer I leave the set on, the more green specks shows up.  I guess it has something to do with the heat being generated by the unit as well as the surrounding area.

Good day, sirs!

Slightly off topic... May PANASONIC service center pa po ba sa Metro Manila? Looking to have my old plasma repaired for vertical lines?

Anyone?

Thanks! =D

My pana is now at ACT. Initial estimate is 4,800. Normally yan lang daw gastos...maganda pa loob niya. No bloated capacitors or burned resistors. Will update after a week. Fingers crossed.

Called them up a moment ago. For some strange reason, the TV is working fine since I brought it in for repair according to the technicians. Will pulled it out tomorrow. Could it be my AVR? But I'm using it now with an LED tv.
