Baka yung source (bd) mo ang grainy. Marami kasing bds especially older movies di maganda ang pagkatransfer in bluray kaya pangit ang picture quality and very grainy ang dating. AFAIK the PS3 is one of the better bd players around.

Usually I set the tv picture to cinema mode just to lessen the effect pero sanayan din yan kasi wala ka ring magagawa dahil yun na  talaga ang quality. But you can google for the setting which would suit your taste, some say it just needs adjustment in contrast or sharpness but I just settle for what's already available so dun lang ako sa default picture settings.

HTPC na may Bluray drive. Maganda ang PQ and you can apply real time post-processing to reduce grains. Malayo ang PQ and SQ compared sa Panasonic Bluray player ko.

Samsung BD-ROM/DVD-RW combo drives are available in some shops for 4k+. CD-R King also sells slimline external ones at the same price.

Add 1k+ may BD writer ka na. If you like to store your bluray disk to hdd then get a htpc with a lot of room to accomodate hdd like silverstone with 11xhdd slot. >:D >:D >:D

For standalone consumer BDPs, the Cambridge Audio 751BD has been topping both video and audio benchmarks for this year (as did its predecessors during their time). The price may look a little steep (~$1149), but the numbers that it's been churning is beyond players costing 8x as much.

The Oppo BDP-105 (~1199) is also a great player that delivers excellent visuals and the widest set of features. It also uses a linear tranny.

If you own one of these players, it'd be wise to keep the AVR's video processing off (as it'd likely deteriorate the picture that you've paid dearly for) unless you have a strong reason to keep it on (like compensating for a poor display).
