Not exactly sure who it was, but I guess GMA had to spite Erap because he was Mowelfund's biggest supporter and that the MMFF falls under MMDA's jurisdiction...

Di ko gets pano nanalo si Wilma Doesnt na Best Supporting Actress. Sa bagay, since kinawawa naman siya ni Vice sa movie sige sa kanya na nga yun! haha

I didn't see it but I read that there was a commercial...like AN ACTUAL COMMERCIAL, hindi lang product placement, but a COMMERCIAL in the middle of the movie.

Napakashameless naman yan.

This movie has a vibe on me that it was paying homage to the Aswang episode on Shake, Rattle & Roll 2.

The problem of Thy Womb is not that Filipinos are too stupid to get it and foreigners are smarter, no. It's the fact that films like Thy Womb appeals primarily to film buffs and film critics, not the average movie-goer. An average movie-goer, regardless of nationality, will find Thy Womb boring and difficult to sit through because it does not go for the usual narrative beats that they're used to in mainstream cinema (be it Filipino, Hollywood or whatever). I've seen Brillante Mendoza's previous films so I knew what to expect and I'm used to his style so I found the film fascinating and moving. But I can see how someone who only goes to the movies once a month or a few times a year who only wanna have a good laugh or an easy kilig will find this boring.

But that's still NOT an excuse for mainstream movies to be lazy in their writing, acting and directing. And that's also not saying that an indie film CAN'T appeal to mainstream audiences. Zombadings and Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia crapapay and heck even the "New Wave" film The Grave Bandits are very commercial and will appeal to mainstream audience if they just give it chance! An avenue like the MMFF is a perfect opportunity for such films to find an audience and to flourish. I think the MMFF should try and look at films from Cinemalaya and CinemaOne to show during the festival.

+1

Can't wait for the second run of Grave Bandits.

;D Two out of three from the most hated personalities in the movie will give me more reason not to watch it. Not that I have intentions of watching any film from this movie fest (I guess Thy womb if the tickets were complimentary).

I watched Sisterakas and it was a sure hit for most of the viewers. I didn't get most of the humor though. Kris' acting and Vice Ganda's skimpy costumes gave me goosebumps.

Hey, if she wants to be respected as an actress, she has to step out of her freakin' comfort zone first.  For starters, how about wearing clothes that acknowledge and dignify her rather full figure, not decotellages worthy of Solenn Heussaff's body. The university professor/armchair critic should not be expected to kiss the presidential sister's heinie even if out of obligation.

Sisterakas reportedly grossed P320 million as of January 5, according to a tweet from Kris Aquino.

Geez, can the MMDA release MMFF box office results quickly and accurately?

MMFF 2012 sets box office record

Although this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is still ongoing, it has already set a new record of P702 million in ticket sales, beating last year's P636 million.

Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chief Francis Tolentino announced the new record in an in an interview with ABS-CBNnews.com on Monday.

"Definitely na break na namin yung last year. As of 1 p.m. today na break na namin. Nag-P702 million na 'yung buong gross ng festival. Last year ay P636 million lang. So, mayroon pang one day to go bukas (Tuesday)," Tolentino said.

Meanwhile, Tolentino refused to confirm if the comedy film "Sisterakas" is now the country's top-grossing film of all time.

There have been reports on social media on Monday afternoon that the blockbuster comedy starring Kris Aquino, Vice Ganda and Ai Ai delas Alas has already overtaken "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin" as the all-time box-office champ.

Tolentino said the MMDA, which organizes the annual film fest, will release other details on Tuesday.

"Bukas ko ilalabas kasi last day bukas (Tuesday)," he said.

Before Monday, the last official box office update provided by the MMDA was for the period of December 25 to January 1., which showed "Sisterakas" leading the pack with P231.9 million, followed by "Enteng" (P104.5 million); the family drama "One More Try" (P91.3 million); and the horror film "Shake, Rattle & Roll 14" (P34.6 million).

As of Saturday, January 5, Aquino said on Twitter that "Sisterakas" has already grossed over P320 million in nationwide earnings after 12 days and is on track to beat the record set by "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin" which made P331.61 million when it was released in 2011.

Jointly produced by Star Cinema and Viva films, "Sisterakas" is now the second all-time highest grossing local film.

that would be enough basis to let movies like Sisterakas be released anytime of the year and compete with hollywood releases if they really are that bankable and not reliant on MMFF to be a sure blockbuster

if they can be commercially viable the MMFF can then be reserved for true film festival calibre films to let the public know the difference of good films against crass movies

Got to watch:
Sisterakas
El Presidente
Sosy Problems

I enjoyed Sosy Problems the most. And you know why. :D

El Presidente I think is good but feeling ko parang ang bilis ng pacing at sa dami ng characters parang extra lang lahat. Hehe.

Watched only 2 movies, strangers and the SRR. These movies contain images the necessitated the abundant use of technical knowhow and technology. Our movie industry really needs more improvement, more importantly on the technical side. I am just curious, is it because of the lack of budget or lack of knowledge on the part of the movie makers? Except purely drama of comedy movies, thanks at walang ibang hollywood or foreign movies ang pinapalabas or else, baka langawin itong mga to.
