Is there a rule/law that states the minimum amount which is taxable by our customs?

I mean, does it matter if it's $5, $50, $500, are all these 3 taxable?

Wala brad...subjective sila pag trip ka i-tax pwede basta import.

The company I used to work for shipped some MSN installation CD's as tokens of appreciation for all the employees here in Manila. Customs(because of greed) did not want to release it because we did not declare a value, now because we were forced to declare a value, we gave the smallest reasonable amount, that being $1 (which is the cost of the CD).

Customs would not agree to such a low price and demanded that we raise it, so instead of claiming the items, we just let it rot in customs custody. So long story short, they will tax whatever amount is declared and if its too small they will ask for more.

In addition to my previous post, I also ordered F1 tickets in 2009 and again in 2010. In 2009, I got my tickets without tax, it ws just delivered to my doorstep. The following year, I was told I needed to pay an additional Php 2,500 tax when it was delivered to my doorstep. Syempre I contested it because the previous year I paid nothing, I called the number that the ourier gave and after some lengthy discussion they still asked me to pay Php 1,700 and according to the attendant thats the best rate they can give.(may discount na?)

I do not know the basis of their computation but just to spite them I literally asked for a receipt so that at least if will really go to taxes instead of 100% into their pockets.

Customs duty fee (10%): 341.00 (may vary depending on the item, see below)
EDS (fixed amount) : 265.00
IPF (fixed amount) : 250.00
TOTAL (subject to 12% VAT): 4,266.00
12% VAT: 512.00

so the total customs/tax for a package valued at Php 3410.00 is:

kahit $5 pa yan, as long as it is taxable. wala kang lusot. you need to pay EDS (fixed amount) : 265.00
IPF (fixed amount) : 250.00 + 12% vat. Ako under the table so I only pay the EDS and IPF...whatever it is.
or kung hinde pwede i-mis-declare (like sa Japan), I only pay half of the computation pero sa bulsa na nila mapupunta yon, wala ng resibo. Ask the seller to put a lower declaration value.

If express delivery/shipping like fedex/DHL/UPS eh may tax talaga di ko pa na try via EMS, so meron din pala ito kahit na via post office? Karamihan na kasi ngayon buy ko small items eh registered/signed for mail na 3-4 weeks dating from UK/HK/CHINA/Germany singil sakin ng postman samin dito ay 40Pesos lang, awa ng diyos wala pa naliligaw. One time sinlaki pa ng nike shoe box recieve ko 40pesos pa rin..

Sa EMS, basta hindi commercial quantity, walang tax, so P40 lang. Make sure you have proof na for personal use lang.

di ba sila based sa buy amount? minsan they asked for proof sa las pinas, grr. i recall i bought an ipod A/V cable eh 50% ng amount paid ang kinarga sa akin nung customs. buti na lang mura yung cable. still, 50%?

+1 , dun talaga matagal kasi ma issue pa lang ng advise from post office for you to pickup dahil may babayaran ka, eh abot ng 1-2 weeks. pero yung arrival ng items mabilis lang sa EMS AFAIK.

taga sa las pinas(which serves las pinas and muntinlupa) and pasay addresses

if you have a friend who's address have proven hassle-free sa EMS, makipadala ka na lang dun, ang get his letter of authorization to pickup.

Postal import costing 50 US dollars (inclusive of shipping) should not be subject to tax. My numerous purchases from HMV and cdjapan sent through EMS were not taxed though (most of which exceeded 50 US dollars in value).

if ship through EMS or USPS, ang babayaran mo lang PTCF - P40.
EMS or USPS - pick up to Central Office, they will send you notice.
Hong kong post, china post or any international post, they will deliver it @ your door step. so far wala pa naman ako na tax lalo na pag big items came from US (ship through USPS). Binibigyan ko lang ng tip kung kilala ko sa loob, then text niya lang ako pag wala na yung customs officer to check the package

Pinakamataas ko na order ship through USPS - $800. No Tax, tip lang para iwas tax

depende sa postal office. I guess you had it good over there, Makati, Pasay, Muntinlupa kahit demo CD may bayad apart from the PTCF na 40 pesos.

i course my tube purchases from the states thru the post office,.....wala namang hassles so far, kaunti lang ang binayaran ko sa costums.....

pero yung shipments ko na hinawakan ng FedEx ang laki ng tax, kakapikon talga...

True din yan sakin sir Tony pag post office ala ko bayad pero Fedex at UPS na 8K ako dati for 500GBP total price ata yun each...kaya balikbayan box na ngayon matagal pero ala tax...

At wag ka malingat, storage fee while awaiting customs clearance pag bago Ang product is per day. So if you must, ship them with brochures at make sure you ask your seller to classify the item properly for tax purposes and faster clearance sa customs.

40 pesos ang binabayad ko sa costums, mukang standard rate yan.....so maliban dyan wala ng ibang babayaran pa...
