magkano budget mo? let's say 30K. ngayon sa 30K canvass ka kung ano-anung receiver ang mabibili sa ganong price then compare. kung kailangan mo ng pro-logic 2 then yamaha is out of the question dahil di pa niya supported to ewan ko lang dun sa pinost mong mga bagong model. tignan mo rin yung #s of digital input mas madami mas ok. almost every receiver meron ng component input switching so di na problema yun. look for multi-channel input to connect your future dvd-audio or SACD player. another important thing is to look for the pure direct switch which bypasses the dsp and bass management of the receiver importante when connecting dvd-audio and SACD.

robert salamat. my budget is around 40T do you have any information about the denon and onkyo comparison. sa bagong yamaha RX-V1200 or 2200 meron ng prologic II and DTS-ES pati matrix, etc with A/B speakers selector also with zone 2 for multiroom, eh yun denon 3802 and onkyo 787 do they better capabilities?

paplano rin akong mag upgrade pero baka next year pa either
Feb or March.
Saan mo nakita yung Denon at how much ?

TIA

TIA

i checked on the new yamaha offerings the 1200 and the 2200. yung sa yamaha single back surround lang ang gamit nya unlike dun sa denon 2 ang back surround(part of thx requirements ata and yamaha is not into thx eversince). kung malaki ang space mo sa likod marami kang pambili ng back surround speaker at halos pareho lang ang presyo ng denon at yamaha na pinagpipilian mo then i would say go with the denon.

thanks robert for the info. now bumukas na sa akin isip ang denon kaya lang wala talaga akong mahanap na magandang audio room dito so baka pag-uwi ko na lang and i'll try to go to electronic depot or other places na nakikita sa usapan dito sa website.

to tia ken, try mo na lang to wait hangang makauwi ka kasi yun sale ng yamaha is equivalent ng Php32T++ , kung sa pinas ka bibili pareho din ang presyo and even na lower nga kasi sabi nila nag sale sa shangrila na umabot lang ng Php25T ang RX-V800 and also malaysia lang ang yamaha dito, minsan may japan pero wala tatak sa likod if you try to see.

Allenars

I'm also planning to get Denon 2802 or 3802 (factor is price difference).

Haven't checked these new Yammies (1200 & 2200) but here's what i can say about the Denons (with PLII) - particularly 2802.

- 6.1 channel (with surround - back). Extendable to 7.1 with 2 pre-out terminals for two surround-back but you need an additional amp.  AVR3802 has 7.1 channels no need for add'l amp for the 2 surround-back.

- multi-channel stereo free of delay effects and unnatural artifacts (5-ch/6-ch)

- multi source function is also available

- 6-ch input for DVD-Audio or SACD.

Just want to share this - i checked a Denon's lower model with PLII - 1602 and it's multi-channel capability is simply amazing and remarkable.

I actually own a Yamaha 795a and my reason for choosing (but still undecided) Denon for upgrade is Yamaha still has to offer PLII & now they already have... hmmm....hmmm... and hmmmm..... Peso Sign.... Peso Sign  and more Peso Sign...  ;D

Cheers!!!

thanks robertj very informative ang observation mo.

allenars ok din yung sudgestion mo, kaso parang mabigat magbitaw ng cash sa Pinas even though mas mura yung sale price nila sa Shangrila at wala pang airway bill na babayaran, anyhow pag bakasyon I will try 2 convince si commander for the upgrade para kahit dyan na lang sa Pinas
maka score.

Ken,

sa tingin ko mas makakapili ka pag nasa pinas na kasi yun electronic depot nag email back sa akin and suggesting na denon 2801 or 3802 with either Accoustic Research or Mirage Speaker Systems are recommendation nya kaya pag-uwi i'll go to that place sa may libis sila infront of ford.

kaya sarado na isip ko dito sa saudi with regards sa pagbili ng av receiver even though sale at pagdoon ka bumili sigurado warranty mo ok dahil nasa pinas yun binili mo at baka may discount pa.

Denon 3802..meron na ako. I like the 7 channels I use right now with the 2 surround backs. Basically, I was looking into anything with DPLII but was swayed in Denon kasi may DTS-ES Discreet which I long to hear in Gladiator. And it also has options for A or B surrounds.
At tsaka, medyo "involved" ang set-up. Langya..mura ako ng mura nung ayaw lumabas yun DD ot DTS sound thru coax ko. Yung pala kailangan pang i-set-up sa on-screen menu ng receiver, assigning the digital input to which ever u want. ;D

The Yamaha's did not adopt THX because they have their own trademark and that is the DSP.

any of the three brands will do and it depends in What Speaker brand will you buy or presently owned.

i don't know if you believe in me but amp and speakers have their own compatibilities. if ever you must go to av store with different brands of amps and speakers so that you will hear for yourself which is which not just a simple recommendation but our experienced co-members suggestions are your tools or guide only but as i read on the other thread that "YOU MUST TRUST YOUR EARS" is the best principle, i can't remember that handle but he simply delivers what is essential already for you.

happy searching.

Eric and deputy thanks for your inputs!

Eric, denon avr 3802 is a new model isnt it? when did you bought it and where and how much? whats your speakers systems?

Deputy your right ears makes the difference, thats why when i come home i'll try to go to electronic depot and toher showroom that caters this different av receivers and then listen to music and movies and compare the difference.

now its between denon and yamaha on my list but onkyo is still there. maganda din sana if all these 3 have a silver or gold edition para magarang tignan.

allenars,

all suggestions are great!

Thanks for that idea vacuumtubes. i'm actually doing that so that i can hearthe difference. does anybody here in the web owns a yamaha RX-V1000 or RX-V3000 or RX-V1 kasi these are the top of the line ng yamaha plus the new models RX-V1200 and RX-V220, please share naman ang performance ng av receiver nyo, so that we can have an openmind kasi parang yamado ang denon ha.

yamaha is great for home theater because of it DSP, but others says the audio like for the cd and stereo na not that better compare to denon or onkyo, agree ba kayo?

The three brands mentioned produce receivers of similar quality.  You really can't go wrong with any of the three - focus instead on the features you want and the ease of use of the unit rather than the differences in "how they sound."  So long as these units are driven within their normal operating range (not to the point of clipping), one would be hard pressed to find consistent differences between units.  Besides, the human ear has short term memory retention so it is more difficult to compare units heard on different days let alone in different rooms with different speakers.

Allenars..got mine over here for $820 shipped. U can actually get it for less like $700 or so pero I'd like to get it from an authorized dealer kasi para safe lang. As for speakers I have the 3802 powering Atlantic Technology 350 THX, 2 fronts, 1 center, 2 side surrounds, 2 surround backs and 2 subs. OK na OK kasi I get to use all spkr terminals on the darn thing. ;D

eric, how about the DSP does denon support THX o may sarili syang DSP like yamaha? how many DSP ba meron ang denon because sa internet di ko makita kung ilan di nila na specify not like yamaha meron silang mga line-up either for audio or cinema DSP. the more DSP the better para ma blend natin ang mga set-up na gusto natin when it comes songs like jazz, rock, mellow or church or other things. electronics depot sends me the price and its 55K for the denon 3802.

It has the usual DSPs but I rarely if ever switch them over. It has Widescreen, Rock Arena, Jazz club, video game and Matrix. I usually listen to plain DD, DTS or DPLII. Most of time now, I switch it over to 6.1 for 5.1 material and man does it rock!
It is not THX certified but sure has the 7 channels recommended by THX. It does DD ES 6.1 matrix well but cannot advertise Surround EX because it is not THX certified. I guess Denon doesn't want to pay Lucas for the logo upfront.
I used to own a Yamaha RXV995. It had a ton of DSPs but I just stick to the plain stuff as well. Now Deputy said Yamaha it does not adopt THX because it has DSPs. I think the statement is not correct. THX is not a format, it is a bunch of requisites to try and reproduce the movie soundtrack in a home theater. It is not like Dolby Digital or DTS. Someone like Robertj could further indulge in this topic as I only say what I read.

allenars: I have backed to backed a Denon and a Yamaha before! It is true imho what you say. Sa HT, almost pareho lang sila, I find the Yamahas throw out the effects a tad better and the Denon mas full and dialogues. In terms of bass fairly even. But I truly find that the Denon is a definite winner in terms of music. Again, mas puno and pino yung vocals. The yamaha is a tad thinner sounding and matalas ang tunog especially when matched with metal tweeter speakers! Choose Denon over Yamaha pag gagamitin mo for both HT and music. Let your ears decide and the features if it will be mainly used for HT! Cheers!

Thanks for the added info Manila. by the way, what brand you have right now?denon o yamaha? and what model? kasi most of the guys here refer to yamaha and denon but i' m not quite sure if the model they're refering is the same, i mean if you have denon avr 3802 the yamaha comparison should be at its level like yamaha RX-V1000 or RX-V3000c or even the new models with denon which is yamaha RX-v2200 while with onkyo it should be the onkyo 787 or 777 ot 797?

please let me know the comparison? thanks guys!

have a nice day!

I haven't seriously auditioned receivers of late but some general observations on sound characteristics of Denon vs. Yamaha vs. Onkyo.

On HT, hayop yung processing ng Yamaha.  My bet is the DACs used by Yamaha are a cut above the rest.  I'm not saying that Denon and Onkyo sucks but the surround processing on the Yammie is sweet.

On stereo, Onkyo and Denon edge the Yamaha a tad (soundstage breadth and depth).  Bedyo flat mag-image ang Yamaha which is susprising since they have good DACs.  My guess is it's the amp section that's causing this.

Be careful when matching with speakers with metal-dome tweeters (as many budget speakers are).  Baka maging masyadong bright.  Mission, B&W, Tannoy comes to mind as good batches for brighter sounding receivers.

Personally, among the 3 you are considering, I'd spring for an Onkyo (on sound character alone. note, I deliberately choose not to use the term "on sound QUALITY" as I expect that I'd rank these receivers differently depending upon the system it'll be used in).  Onkyo is warm sounding which makes it a good match for a wider range of speakers (PSB, Acoustic Energy come to mind).  Note though, I am a NAD receiver and a Nakamichi stereo amp user so I am biased to warmer, richer, fuller sounding gear.

Good luck and have fun choosing.  Tell us what you decide.

Hi rtsy,

I am currently using a Yamaha ddp2 for dolby digital processing and an onkyo 545 as amp. I would like to upgrade to dts and dpl2. Is there a similar processor from yamaha that has dts and dpl2? I like the yamaha's dsp processing kaya processor lang hanap ko. Like you I also noticed na hindi maganda yung amp section ng yamaha.

Me, I prefer ONKYO but if I have more money I like to get the high-end of Denon.

Just for info, 5 out of 6 of my officemates na may AV Receiver are all Onkyo users except for only 1 Yamaha ::) .

Although I auditioned the Yamaha, hindi ako na impress sa dami ng DSP nya, for me its like faking the real sound of the source(DVD, AudioCD & etc.).

Well that is just my own opinion ;D

iceman,

Yamaha DSP-E492 is what you are looking for.  Meron yung 3 amp channels coz it's usually used to add HT to an existing stereo amp set-up.

Just check if that model has been updated or(hopefully not) discontinued.
