This came in today , had a bit of problem when i ordered the rpi2 as they tried to push out my order so that they could prioritize corporate clients .... But I already paid for it and insisted that they honor the order...Still a 2 week wait ..

Shipment came from Uk and the box says made in UK

For me  I think the pogoplug is better for that purpose , but of course that is the reason I bought the RPI 2 in the first place

I want one to play flac/wave thru a USB DAC and set it up to do that exclusively. Though I am still at a loss on how to run them "headless". Is your application similar to this?

Ok will read on when I get back. I'll probably be shooting a lot of questions about it later on. Right now I have a dedicated laptop for music playback but would also like to explore RP route.

Thanks

Actually I wanted the white one for the rpi2 , but delivery is out to June for the white one...   I though of the clear one but I was thinking it would be a scratch magnet .  in hindsight the black one is a smudge and scratch magnet too ....

maybe your right clear would be better

One thing I learned about scratches is that their inevitable. ;D

My personal preference only, I like seeing the innards as much as I can.

Darn those back order status.

I think you will also need an SD card with the NOOBS or make your own by buying an SD card and install the NOOBS yourself.

Other than that it should be the usual peripherals like mouse, kb, monitor, etc.

The Kodi (xbmc) interface is nice , but for me it crashed too often , a low cost NMT maybe better as a media player and come out cheaper.

But as a learning tool and for gaining experience the RPi is very cost effective .

I built a dedicated USB power plant for DACs and this exact purpose because I wanted to build a music files server but it's on the extreme side and may not be cost effective for HTPC purposes.

For HTPC, you can do away with this with a powered USB hub. :)

You must also supply clean and stable power to your RPI for stability and let all the other peripherals get their power from the powered USB hub.

HTH

This is my weakest point bro, software! ;D

But since I don't have an RPI yet, I get my tech fix toying with my Arduino instead hahaha. ;D

yup sir, that's why i just bought a wdtv live a while ago.was about to try this sana but the total cost would equal the media player plus it can't detect a usb powered hdd

I guess I trashed Kodi on Rpi2 too early , as I started playing with it this holy week , as it is quite stable now after a few weeks of updates , really nice and cool interface .

I had problems too with crushed whites and blacks on my Pioneer Kuro's and after a bit of searching I was able to edit the config file to output the proper levels to match my Tv's ..

It's Great that you can use the CEC mode and control Kodi using the remote control of the tv set ..

What makes Kodi so nice are the addon's .. I need to try the ipcam monitoring and Squeezebox control next ,

Looks like I need to get another one then...

I was at the AVX shop in Harisson Plaza and they had a nice media box which was running Kodi . And I saw the various addons that really work well with Kodi ..

One thing is for tv series I could just stream rather than download the shows.

I was  tempted to buy as it was not too expensive , but I thought with a little setup and browsing the internet I could just update my rpi2 and work as well as what i saw,

And that is what I did ... Now I dont download the TV series shows anymore I just Stream with the Rpi2 in 720P

I bought an RPi 2. Can I install Teamviewer on Raspbian? I am planning to use it as a NAS server so I can access my files online.

I had problems installing dietpi. After installing the programs and rebooting it just showed some system checks with no gui. I installed Ubuntu Mate in the meantime and configured samba for my local file sharing and media streaming.

Recently got mine and followed this for basic setup.

http://mymediaexperience.com/raspberry-pi-xbmc-with-raspbmc/

Works pretty well. Haven't tried adding features yet to maximize the experience.
