Ok I'll check it out. Thanks!

Any way Kodi can passthrough HD audio?

Did you use OSMC or Openelec?
Using osmc. Easier setup.

There is an option in the Kodi menu audio settings that it can passthrough audio but it appears in my receiver as pcm. Do I get to hear digital audio from my speakers?

There is also an option. Asking if your audio processor is capable to decode DolbyD and DTS .  you need to check both so that passthru is complete .

I have an HDMI receiver that can decode HD audio aside from the usual DTS and DD.

Do note that Rp1 2, and 3 share the same type of IO , which uses the usb bus for Ethernet and USB I/O. Which has caused a concern among technical minded audiophiles.

ME I got better sound using the I2S outputs of the dac , bypassing usb.., But best to  try volumnio or other distributions that try to squeeze as much SQ as they can.

But if you blind test me I cannot make the distinction

for me,I will not upgrade coz i don't really need the bluetooth right now,my rpi is still working and can play almost all video files that i put in,but if I need more horse power for other application like 4k playback i will definitely upgrade.

900mhz to 1.2ghz. I don't think you would notice the difference in processing power unless there would be an upgrade in the RAM. How about the 32bit to 64bit upgrade without the additional RAM? :o

I had to built a kodi box for a relative ..  and the pi3 came out . No brainier decision to switch , cost of a wifi dongle is more than the price difference between rpi 2 and 3 .  They say 50% increase with the current 32 bit kernel...I'll know how that translates next week

Here is a bit more detailed reply

The Pi 2 and Pi 3 DO support HD Audio - both DTS-HD MA/HRA and Dolby True HD - losslessly decoded to PCM 5.1/7.1 with no quality loss for all except 192kHz 5.1/7.1 tracks (the Pis support 48/96kHz at 5.1/7.1 but only 4.0 at 192kHz).

You don't get bitstreaming, and so don't get Dolby Atmos or DTS:x - but you do get lossless HD Audio decoded to multichannel PCM (just like the first gen Blu-ray players and PS 3 implemented HD Audio)

A bit off topic .. But this is the Orange Pi One , which I got this weekend also ... Madami na mapaglalaruan  .. More like the RPi zero in price , but more capable .. not as much support ..I have not decided what to do with it yet , media player or headless audio player  .... I will repost in the more relevant thread , once I get around to it

Got the case and a power supply , I only bought the 2 amp psu .. but for the pi3 , they have a 2.5amp official power supply , for those that want to load up with devices .. But the extra .5 Amp is 75 % more pricier

Ready for more testing , for one thing the builtin wifi is really convenient and worth the cost adder ..

The RPi is well worth it as a media player running kodi. Compared to my TVs built in player and RPi the sharpness and detail difference is day and night. No lag when running through the menus. Regarding streaming hd audio, I get pcm in my receiver then probably I'm having hd audio din. Cool! You just won't get hd audio (dts hdma, dolby truehd) appearing in the receiver.
