Yes, 1080i is HD in interlaced mode. HD starts with 720p which is the same as 1080i in terms of information content.

HDTV tech is still ahead of HDTV broadcast tech the last time I checked.  I think Japanese broadcast is still 720p while US has mostly 1080i.  Paminsan minsan palang yata may umuusbong na 1080p broadcast from the likes of BBC.

ABS-CBN gave away a few set-top/converter set to some of its audience last year for ISDB-T.  Umagang Kay Ganda and Ted Failon on DZMM-AM were the programs that gave these away.  The set includes the set-top/converter set and an AV RCA cable to connect to their CRT or HDTV.  The name given to it is TV+.  TV+ does not have HDMI out.  Therefore, users will see SD on whatever TV they connect it to.

ABS-CBN did not really explain what ISDB-T is all about in technical terms.  ABS-CBN seems to be marketing the ISDB-T by introducing TV+ and explaining it as a new way to watch free TV very clearly without the interference of their old antenna. 

I think that's a good way of putting it.  Utilizing the advantage of clear pictures is its strength.

TV+ is not exclusively locked on to ABS-CBN and Studio 23.  It can also tune in to GEM, PTV and TV5.

Meanwhile, GEM and PTV are datacasting too.

By 2025, the Philippines should have the second generation ISDB-T which should be on 8K.  The term for it, as of now, is Octo HD.

So far hindi ako nagkamali sa pag bili ng Devant 32DL420 32 inch LED tv with built ISDB-T for the price of ₱11500, pick-up nya pati cable signal using my CDR King antenna, sa mga branded na LED tv usually ang meron built in ISDB-T ay 40 inch pataas or Smart LED TV na medyo pricey. May mga ilang brand ng Smart LED TV na may built in ISDB-T katulad ng Haier, TCL, Skyworth etc, or puwede ka naman bumili ng TV Plus (₱2500) or RCA Digital Box (₱1700).

Curious lang ako. Your TV can access the cable channels (Disney Channel, Nat Geo, etc.) through antenna + built-in ISDB-T? How is that possible? I thought those channels are not broadcasted over the air?

Di ko sure eh pero isdbt built in yung Devant ko yung CDR-KING antenna ko malapit sa poste ng Meralco kung saan nakabit din line cable provider dito sa amin pero di sya ganun kalinaw lalo pag umuulan.
