The Strain
« on: Apr 27, 2013 at 10:53 AM »

FX is developing a pilot for The Strain, based on the best-selling vampire novel trilogy from Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan.

The Strain tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, who is the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism.  As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Del Toro and Hogan will co-write the pilot script, with del Toro attached to direct. Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) is one of the Executive Producers and will oversee the series with Del Toro. Cuse will also serve as the Showrunner as the pilot goes to series.

Corey Stoll, currently seen on Netflix's House of Cards, has been cast as Eph in the series.

Wonder if they'll change the ending.
The first book was so creepy and frightening. The second book was ok-ish. The last book was bleh.
By the end of the third book, I was so disappointed because the characters became unlikeable and unrelatable. And from being a scientific take on vampires, it became a biblical story.

Sean Astin and Robert Maillet were recently announced as joining the cast of The Strain.

Astin, the son of actors John Astin and Patty Duke, is well-known for his portrayal of the hobbit Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Maillet, a Canadian professional wrestler, also worked with Guillermo Del Toro in Pacific Rim, where he played Lt. Sasha Kaidanovsky, co-pilot of the Russian Jaeger Cherno Alpha.

Astin will play CDC administrator Jim Kent, while Maillet will play The Master, an ancient vampire and main antagonist of the series. They will join Del Toro and other cast members Corey Stoll, John Hurt, Kevin Durand, Mía Maestro, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, and Natalie Brown when The Strain starts filming in Toronto, Canada on September 2013.

I just did...the pilot wasn't bad, but it falters whenever some exposition about the characters are shown (Eph's ex-wife and custody case). It had some genuine scares and creepy moments though, so there's plenty of room for improvement.

Harry Potter's Argus Filch is here, heh...and I'm still not used to seeing Corey Stoll with a full head of hair, LOL

Yeah! Nagandahan din ako.  The guy who played Eph looked awfully familiar for me. He was Reilley pala in Non-Stop!  The hair threw me off.  :D

Liked the pilot.  And good reviews so far, so I hope this show makes it to the end of the books/graphic novels.

^^I thought it was slightly better than the pilot, but again, it's a "strain" to watch whenever details of Eph's personal life are shown. Also, the boy who plays his son doesn't know how to act, he acts more "dead" than the vampires.  :P

I liked ep 2. That scene with Filch(Harry Potter)/Lord Frey (GoT) was intriguing.

Don't eat anything while watching the latest episode...unless you want to see the thing being referred to in the episode title, "Gone Smooth."

3rd episode is better than the first two, but the show's pacing is still very slow. The people around Manhattan aren't really very smart--the wife just stands there when her husband drinks the raw blood juice of the steak with a forked tongue, and apparently no one saw 200+ corpses walking out the morgue in episode 2. I also can't stand Eph's son and wife, can we kill them now?  >:D

I also couldn't believe it at first but there was a really large "plop!" sound while he was using the toilet--was wondering what that was... until the full body reveal
