i'm actually getting a blade 2 vibe from the creatures.  the premise is still interesting to warrant my interest, but, as mentioned earlier, i can't help thinking the characters being idiots.  a whole morgue full of cadavers are missing along with the coroner and no one is asking questions?  shouldn't eph had the other remaining survivors recalled the moment the captain showed the symptoms of whatever it is they are tracking? and how did faux manson get so smooth down there when it supposedly fell off?  too many plot holes imo.

gross episode. on the other hand, no ex-Mrs. Eph & son, so good episode!  ;D

but no Vasiliy Fet, so bad episode.

bad writing & characterization is rather frequent on this show; that idiot wife of one of the survivors is suddenly shown being a religious type--there didn't seem to be any indication that she was one in the previous episodes.  ::)

didn't Del Toro direct that movie?

i'm quickly losing my interest in this.  there are a lot of questions some of the characters aren't asking, which imo is just plain moronic.  too many plot lines are dangling.

FX announced recently that The Strain has been renewed for a second season.

Episode 5, "Runaways," was the best episode so far...yet still plagued by occasional bad writing and plot pacing:
- Anne-Marie, suddenly revealed last episode to be a religious person, does something very unreligious  ::)
- b!tch lawyer, who disappeared for two episodes, is just manifesting early signs of the infection when she was the first to have the symptoms while all her fellow survivors have turned
- Abraham's flashback is unnecessarily split into several parts, which makes one wonder if Abraham actually told Eph the entire story or left him hanging, LOL

This episode was directed by the original RoboCop himself, Peter Weller.

ugh, Eph's annoying wife and wooden-acting-school-graduate son are back. This show's pacing still sucks...especially when they show the wife, son, or both. Did we need that scene of Eph's wife and possible vampire fodder friend drinking wine? Or her and dead-acting son lovingly staring at the eclipse? And after all that buildup, the eclipse only made one vamp (the coroner) run out the street?

I suggest you read the book na lang. Sobrang nakakatakot!
Yung itsura ng Master and the accompanying sound effects sa TV series e parang pang-Shake, Rattle and Roll lang. Very disappointing!

setrakian said it best:  logic is not the issue here.  seven episodes in and the main characters are still none the wiser in curving the strain.

The last five minutes redeemed all the stupidity (cab driver, b!tch lawyer's husband, Jim Kent's b!tch wife, b!tch lawyer's nanny's nurse daughter, Eph & Nora tailing a vampire in the dark, police in jail ignoring Gus' obviously infected pal) in the latest episode.

And since this show abounds in stupidity and pacing that's slower than a turtle's walk, those awesome people we saw at the end will probably not appear next week...I hope I'm wrong though.

That would be the squadron led by Mr. Quinlan, a fan-favorite character from the books.

the latest episode's a bit of an improvement.  there are still spots of stupidity peeking through. i'd say they tore a page from the walking dead with this one.

yup, latest episode was the best episode so far--no Mrs. Eph & son, yay! And Vasiliy has finally joined them...maybe Gus will join them next week.

Yeah.  At first he was becoming dispensable.  But he was already on the road of redeeming himself.  So I thought... maybe his character shouldn't have been killed off.

The last episode was easily the most boring episode yet, filled with slow pacing, really bad writing, and the stupid moments that are fast becoming this show's trademarks. Almost fell asleep watching it.

Eph's son, who is definitely a graduate of the no-emotion, cue-card reading school of bad acting, takes center stage here.

From the last episode, paang bumilis yata yun transformation into vamp nung friend of the ex-con and the ex-wife's bf.  In my estimate it was less than a day before the serpent-like tongue came out.

This show is truly a treasure trove of stupid moments: Eph says he loves his wife...right after screwing Nora.  ::)

As for the Master's face, instead of getting scared or horrified, I LOL'd. He was scarier when he looked like a Dementor from Harry Potter.

Mas maganda kaya yung pacing ng show kung ginawa na lang nilang linear yung story telling? Simulan sa kabataan ni setrakian,  nazi concentration camp, tapos present day?
And yeah, pang shake, rattle and roll lang ang itsura ni master! Could've been scarier if they kept him in the shadows.
