The new 2015 LG UF7600 series....Quantum Dots technology na kaya? It says in the article..."Color Prime Technology"...is it same as the quantum dots tech?   Looks like Samsung and LG are really hell bent on outdoing each other...am kinda incline sa LG..ang ganda tlaga.

Hindi pa Quantum Dot ang UF7600. It uses a wide color phosphor led backlight to deliver improved color depth. This is an evolution of prior phosphor led backlight designs. Instead of using a single phosphor type, its backlight uses a multi-chromatic phosphor set to raise color rendition. It's better than the prior backlight designs, but not as good as quantum dot tech.

In the simplest form: QD LED backlighting is a technology/technique intended to deliver a "complete" light (correct spectral distribution) to the panel. This in turn allows the LCD on top to cover a wider range of colors. The correct implementation of this technology allows TVs to correctly present all the colors that existing materials have, and have some surplus capacity to support the wider color gamuts of future formats.

You are correct. UHD and 4K are the next steps up in resolution (for Home Entertainment and Digital Cinema respectively).

Sir, saan mo nabili? Saka konting review sa TV kung may time kayo. TY

Got it from a seller at OLX. Ahente of LG or something apparently but the guy who had the ad was not employed by that appliance chain. Got an O.R. though.

Sadly, no time for a review as I just moved in to a new house so my schedule is pretty hectic at the moment.

Thanks sir. Nag dadalawang isip kasi ako kung kukuha din ako ng ganyang model o hihintayin ko na lang lumabas 'yung 2015 models ng LG.  :)

They're the same. But it's not true that Sony is ahead of Samsung or LG when it comes to display tech (at least in terms of actual physical hardware). Samsung actually had QD array displays (which is far higher tech than any QD LED backlighting, though ultra-expensive) since 2011. LG had RGB backlit displays on professional displays since 2008 (this is superior to QD LED backlighting, but is costlier). Both could have made QD LED backit LCD TVs years ago if they really wanted to. They were too preoccupied with pushing OLED to production, so they didn't bother with QD LED backlighting. Both are now having difficulty bringing down OLED costs though, so they are now pushing interim products in the form of QD LED backlit LCD TVs.

Sony's Triluminos screens mostly come from AUO utilizing QD Vision optics. They do not own the technology. They only decided to use QD Vision's optics for their 2013 flagship and used a trademark for it (Triluminos). LG is using the same QD Vision optics now on their QD LED models (since this is cheaper than using their own RGB LED tech, and is better than their cheaper multi-chromatic phosphor tech). Samsung sports its in-house QD optics tech for now (which is what's in their current SUHD TVs), but will move on to licensed optics from Nanosys on upcoming products.

Samsung and LG are vertically integrated companies. They make most of what they use. Sony can no longer afford that kind of setup, and is now largely dependent on technology partners and suppliers.

sir stagea - so the sony's X8500B is a bang for the buck QD tv. you could only get it 115k for a 55 inch.

Color gamut wise, it's good (because of the advanced backlight). Contrast-wise, not so much (though it's not bad).

thanks, stagea it seems you are a TV engineer.

Not really, though I worked for a company making them for over a few years.

My suggestion: Don't look for whatever technology's behind the TV.

If you're not calibrating the screen: Look for a picture that you like from a brand that you trust.
If you're calibrating the screen: Look for performance measurements and available calibration controls.

Unless you're OC with PQ, you can go for a bigger screen and just skip QD for now if the budget is 115k. You can get a 65" UHDTV instead.

LG for 125k. A curved screen from Samsung is about 13k extra.

This series Sony uses LG displays, afaik. It might even share a lot of parts with the 980t (they have different backlights though). Both have wider viewing angles than the Samsung. The Samsung model delivers noticeably superior contrast, however (the black levels make this a choice for darker rooms). I don't care about curved TVs, though some people may. It's a choose your own poison thing.

How's the built in Harman Kardon speakers on the LG 65ub980t? Ganda aesthetically ng model na ito, not to mention the price tag of around 150K :)

i don't care for curved either.. Hmmm.. Lg and Sony have the same panels? How's the light bleeding issue for both?

Problem is I'm in tarlac and it seems I have to rely on sm tarlac to get this units.. I got my previous tv's from sir Vic. But at this size I don't think it'll fit my car now...

Sony does not make flat panel screens so they source from willing vendors. AUO is now their preferred source, but they also source from LG. Before the current sourcing partnerships, they used to largely source from Sharp and Samsung. You can mostly tell where they sourced from by looking at the pixel structure of the screen.

AUO:

LG:

Except for Sharp, the rest of the Japanese makers do the same panel sourcing setup as they don't make their own panels.

Usual large panel sources:
1. LG (Korea)
2. Samsung (Korea)
3. AUO (Taiwan)
4. Innolux (Taiwan)
5. Sharp (Japan)

I think they now concentrate on larger panels and value models.

They are struggling to make a profit. They tried to bank on the high end before with the Elite line and the Quattron models. What they found out is that the typical buyer is not willing to shell out that much on a similar sized screen. They moved on to supersized mass production panels under the Aquos line. That failed to move too. Now they are very cautious with releases and are putting most of their bets on mainstream sizes with a few differentiators.

I hope so too. Not even TCL prices that low over here.

Once the PROC panel makers get to the level of the top five makers, I expect prices to drop further. The top makers are already bracing for it by moving some of their panel production to China. They cannot be cost-competitive if they continue to operate from their home countries.

Hi Stagea. It seem ur very knowledgeable with LED TVs. I would like to seek ur advice. Im planning to buy LG 49" UB850T or 50" LB6500. However, while canvsssing prices at a Western Appliance store, a sales agent offered me Devant 50UHV130. He said it has good pic quality, is an internet/smart tv and cinema 3D at the same time and much cheaper than LG by more than php20k. Is devant brand ok particularly this model? I want a smart tv with 3D features. What other brand/models could u suggest with my preferred size of around 50"? Thanks in advance with ur review/feedback.
