Is there a device to extract audio from an HDMI cable?
« on: Aug 21, 2013 at 03:37 PM »
Hi guys, its been a while. I hope you would be able to help me out with my hdmi/audio inquiries.
So here goes,
I have a Samsung bluray player with only Coax Digital Audio output, HDMI out and of course Ethernet port. Out of curiosity, I tried connecting my LG computer monitor (with DVI input) to Samsung bluray player using an HDMI cable adapter (HDMI-DVi). Guess what, it worked perfectly fine! in fact I got a super clear picture of course I played a bluray disc and I never thought my PC monitor can display such crisp picture.
Now, if only I can also get the sound from the  Samsung bluray player it would be so sweet.
1. Is there an adapter from HDMI to RCA audio output? That way I can just use an HDMI splitter, one goes to the monitor and the other to my external speakers.
2. I don't have an AV Receiver so I can not just plug in the coax digital output, so I wonder if there is an adapter also or a gadget to get the sound from that and output it on an RCA cables, left & right.
I hope I was able to describe my inquiries well. Hoping desperately also to get some light on the issues.
Thanks guys.

1. You can ask sir vic of sights and sounds if he has a coax to rca converter or adapter.
2. Sell your current bdp and buy one with both an hdmi and analog rca output.

more commonly known as a DAC, which is already widely available and probably the easiest solution.

TS just needs to configure his bdp to downmix to stereo pcm and then output via digital coax.

Korek!

DAC= Digital to Analog Converter

Pero make sure that it's COAX to RCA. Most DACs na nakikita ko kasi is OPTICAL to RCA.

- Will try S&S right away sir, thanks!  Hmm... baka nga meron dito sa Marketplace a cheaper 2nd hand BR Player with even just a composite out.

- Hmm... so DAC is what its called pala ok, I just have to check na its got COAX to RCA to be sure and also play with the audio out configuration.

- Fiio D3 looks great din, at that price I think I should check it out also in Gale. Price seems reasonable e.

- Out of desperation I did tried to ask from CDR-King kaso wala din sila e.

SonOfKratos, rthirtyfourgtr, markcrenz, raider125jeigh & jao143, I really appreciate all your inputs sir. I promise to post what I did, results and all.

i wonder how these cables work, i don't see anything on the pictures that would suggest it converts the digital signal to analog ::)

Bagong technology. Hindi na natin kailangan ng DAC or receiver for audio and video. Free downsampling pa to SD resolution.
HDMI v100

:D

Hello again AV Gurus,
I just wanna give an update on my inquiries.
I finally got a digital-analog converter, a FIIO for Php1,400. Bought it from Glorietta, Im sorry I forgot the name of the store. Medyo tago yung place, best access would be coming in from Rustan's. Puro AV ang products nila. Anyway, this little gadget really serve its purpose. Its got coax & optical input with RCA and stereo jack as output options.  Problem solved and I got the solution here in PinoyDVD, thanks again guys :)

That's nice to hear sir. So hindi ka na pala sa HDMI kumuha ng digital signal. That's good and simple pa.
