How to organize your BD collection
« on: Sep 06, 2013 at 08:04 AM »
Nobody has shared how to do this. Let me start:

I became hooked up with collecting BDs when I purchased my very first blu-ray disc (actually it's a set, "24" Season 7) in 2009, and this was a few months before I bought my blu-ray disc player! The BD titles began to build up, and I just piled them on top of each other in a corner. But when we moved into our new home, I have no choice but to start organizing my growing collection. Fast forward to 2013, I now have two cabinets and four pullout drawers housing my collection.

On organizing:

I use the studio (20th Century Fox, Paramount, etc.) as my starting point. I then arrange the titles alphabetically from left to right, top to bottom. The series, box sets, foreign films and animation have their own shelf. Though I haven't tried using other methods, I find this system pleasing to the eyes since the spines look uniform.  ;D

I'm thinking of reorganizing the BDs- how do you arrange yours?

3D movies

boxed sets/special/limited/ultimate editions/digibooks

steelbooks

TV series (includes animes, documentaries)

Triple pack/triple feature movies

The rest in normal amaray cases are arranged alphabetically

(I used to have a Disney category but had to replace it with 3D instead. :D)

^ It's a good thing you have already organized your BDs. Ikaw yung isa sa mga pinakamaraming collection dito ;D
Question: How about UK BDs -since they have slightly thicker cases, do you separate them as well?

I have them grouped with the normal US amarays. The trick for me is to not be overly OC anymore. Haha

As much as I want the groups to look neat and kinda uniform looking, may mga pasaway na releases like Taxi Driver na normal edition lang naman pero naka digipack. I still grouped it with the normal ones.

There is also the issue of slips, pero di ko na pinapansin kung meron o wala ang BD case. It will further complicate things  :)

Some titles have mixed genre. How do you sort if this is the case?

Sir vicsotto probably has the most extensive collection here.

Re:different genres

Haha thats the reason i went with the non-oc arrangement i have. Hirap kasi pabago bago isip ko so baka ilipat ko madalas sa ibang genre if more than one genre yung isang movie

This is when I had around 30BDs. The rest of my DVD collection is arranged according to genre.

Then came my addiction to Steelbooks and Limited Editions

Then ran out of space and erected a new shelf.

Steelbooks on the main shelf. Collectibles on floating shelves. DVDs on the new shelf.

^ Impressive collection. I assume you have multiple editions/versions of titles, too? How do you arrange them?

I think the titles placed on your middle shelves are also your personal favorites.

I don't want to start a new topic since my question had something to do in organizing..

I had a few steelbooks and I just found out today that some (2 or 3) had a little bit of rust along the rib. I'm meticulous with regards to my small collection. Did any of you had this problem? How do you store steelbooks?
