thanks to Lazada....my dream FTC testing rig comes to life....
inspired by the Cebu group, Fi Do Dido, Kahibulongan Tribes, Juan Dela Cruz III et al.....i made my own FTC testing rig...even has a digital thermometer to monitor ambient temperature...measures power input to amplifier, two ac voltmeters, are now operational, two dc meters with current displays need power supplies, contemplating on whether to use 9 volt battery or an ac powered dc supply...

cooking tubes.....6C33 is such a high trans conductance tube that bias runaway is easily possible so cooking is needed......will connect the grid, cathode and plates together with the one side of the filament and cook some more for a total of 72 hours.....painfully slow progress....

carbon fibers are better looking than paint....but the end bells are powder coated....

for power traffos, carbon fibers are good for heat radiation...

4in1 speaker protection boards, designed and layout by Arnel Rabang a pinoy engineer working in the middle east, and boards fabricated by engineer Dandy Menor out of hong kong...

one of the many collaborations of local pinoy into diy...
more collaborations coming...a real boost for the local diy'ers...

Tony, with C5 being 1000uf I bet it would take quite a longer period of time for the relay to open during switch off/shutdown period.

I suggest a future iteration to include another pnp transistor with emitter at the junction of r10 and r11 and collector to ground. Base drive should be a 10K resistor and a 1uf across ground. Input of this pnp transistor should come from one of the AC supplies of the power transformer, assuming everything is common ground. Once power is cut, this pnp transistor immediately routes the junction of r10/r11 to ground therefore depriving the relay transistors of base voltage asap and turning the relay off.

That should guarantee the relay to open up before any nasty noises from the amp can go through.

Just my two cents.

Cheers

you are correct Jojo, i will use around 220ufd in my build, the power off is the thing, relay should open quick on power down....we will know how to tweak when we use this in an actual operation...i will give your feedback to the designer....thanks...i will review your speaker delay board at diyaudio..

btw, Arnel came up with a honey badger iteration with 8 pairs of output trannies, and SOA protection on a daughter board and is optional...we call it, "Musang" amplifier...

yes tony the relay cutoff during power off must be immediate. at 1000uf and even those large relays there will still be enough energy to keep the coils energized. I suggest a 47uf-100uf without any modifications. Ripple won't be a problem anyway as the psu is only there to supply the relay coils. the ones I made for diyAudio are already subject to revision, but they still work well in most applications..

i'm stuck with the Leach amp at the moment, breaking in my MarkAudio drivers. the Honey Badger hasn't seen much action lately. i'd like to try some of those iterations in the future maybe when I get more time.
