i will ask him when i have the chance....i am building Nelson Pass Amp Camp, a mosfet single ended class A amp, i will need a balanced preamp to drive them also.....

the Impasse Preamp is a well engineered amp, pure science, no bell and whistles, no botique parts,
just pure sounds...

pm replied.....i will let you test it once i get the prototypes up and running...
my plan is to make 4 boards or 4 channels and bridge two for stereo configuration..
that is why i will need the Impasse preamp for driving these.....

Fisher 400 repairs.......contemplating moding the output tube fixed bias to something that makes the tubes live longer...



two tubes on the right are near end of life...these are how heavily used tubes look like....

yesterday at Norman's place, we did a lot of diy amplifier testing,
Alex Rodil came up with four amps, and Kiko Jimenez two amps, all diy,
for comparison a Pioneer A-505 was also tested...

at the one watt level, i.e. 2.8 volts into 8 ohms load...
this is how crossover distortion looks like in a rockola amp...
only this amp showed this notch of the 6 other amps tested...
we are indeed fortunate to see this firsthand...
biasing the output stage can easily fix this issue..

we tested around 7 amps, and a pioneer a-505 amp was used as commercial reference....
the goal of testing this time around was to confirm amplifier efficiency of around 64%....
then FTC testing using a 1kW dummy load at 1khz test frequency...
we wanted to find out rail sag at full power, here we were able to correlate
power traffo size with voltage sag at full load...

left to right, Kiko, Norman, tony, Efren, Jun, and Alex....
these guys did all the work, i was a mere spectator...



no, these are not what they look to be, casings are coming out of china,
but the innards are all pinoy made....

H18 cores, 1 3/4 cores on bobbin...,
idle/no load power loss of just 10 watts...
for a traffo good for 1kva..
traffo is delivering over 200 watts on stanby, that is why a good quality
H18/M24 is a must, M6/z11 is even better but will cost much more...
the deeco iron which is an H50 simply can not run cool here...

tubes pa more....JJ 12ax7, and ruski 6J32(aka ef86) for an upcoming OTL tube amp build.....of course there is a quad of 6C33 output tubes...

short circuit testing of power traffo...
object of the test is to find out copper losses at various levels of primary currents,
this traffo will be supplying about 250 watts continuous power, that is why i made it big
with a core capable of 1000 volt amperes...
