Hi Tony,

It is my pleasure to hook up my diy cables on your very nice sounding OTL amp to complete the system of Larry's 3way speakers, Eric's smooth sounding pre-amp and Señor Mandy's majestic Garrard TT and diy linear tone arm. It was a weekend full of fun and revelations. Mabuhay ka, Tony!

after the tube OTL challenge, Mandy has a nother one for me.....
nangungulit na.....he wants me to make him a DHT phono stage....
this is going to be an even harder challenge....after 10 months ulit...

very hard to come by, end bells for 2.25 inch center leg traffo,
i am making a traffo with 6inch stack....for a high power high fidelity power amp......

2 x 20mm holes for leadouts....

there is a metalworks shop along T. Alonzo (opposite side of Aranque) that uses plasma welding machine, I haven't been there for years but it's an old establishment so maybe it's worth looking at if you are in the vicinity. the last time I went there was a large stainless Toyota logo hanging in front of their shop. if they are still there (I don't know their shop's name), you probably won't miss it, it's the only machine/metalworks shop in that side of Aranque. I'm sure they can patch up, modify existing or even fabricate end bells easily.

thanks Jojo...i go to Unity Metals for my chassis needs...
been with them for more than 20 years now...
i know that shop you mentioned, just across the street....

those endbells will go to Bell Metals for a bright zinc dip,
electo plating costs me 50 pesos per kilo, so this one costs 50 pesos to
plate......and then to Uni-Pacific for powder coating...
guess i am lucky those shops are all in Pasig so i do not
have to travel far...

Merry Christmas to you and family, this year is a very good year
for me in spite of the difficulties, we overcome and move
forward....

one day turn around for electroplating, all these for 60 pesos only....
next stage, powder coating, textured black is my favorite for traffo end bells...

the pp 6L6Gc pp amp is going to australia, and so a 220-240 voltage
selector switch is incorporated...

for more suitable ones, also rethinking the design and tubes to use,
i am contemplating 12au7's for availability....but the topology has been decided.....SY has given me the thumbs up....

Wow Sir in the making na po ba ang sa akin? Looks like Happy ang coming new year for me.

What's the reason for choosing the 12au7 tube for this line amp sir? This has a lower gain than the like 12ax7 or 12at7 tube diba sir? What is the advantage in this type of tube sir?

availability is the single biggest reason....
gain is still 20db as against 26 db for the other tube...

Tube OTL or high power ss amp?
these caps are huge to use on a Kimmel OTL's but a bit small for a high power SS amp...

i mean capacity, not the physical side, these are 70mm diameter caps...

So I can use both 2A3 and 5894 SET tube amps which I got from you, I bought an A-B amp switcher that allows me to connect and switch between as many as six amps to the same set of speakers. This is what I got:

Based on our discussions before, I remember you saying that tube amps should always have a speaker load before switching it on. Since the A-B switcher switches between two active amps, switching between amps necessarily disconnects one active amp from the speakers. Is this safe? The product description of the A-B switcher states: "Protection circuitry safely guards unselected amps or speakers." Really appreciate your guidance on this.

holiday cheers Teta, i felt burned out in the last weeks of
december, can not get myself to do any diy work....
this week i will try to recover by doing what i do in the month
of january, that is wind several transformers, hopefully that will
give me back inertia and recover bearings.....

as long as there is no input to any power amp without
speaker loads, then it is safe....
what is dangerous to the amps with output transformers
is when there is signal input and the speakers gets disconnected...
another reason to go OTL......

Hi Tony, thanks for your quick reply.

My setup will be as follows:

MULTIPLE SOURCES -> 12SL7 / 12SN7 PREAMP -> Y SPLITTER -> 2A3 / 5894 SET AMPS -> A-B SWITCHER -> FR SPEAKERS.

From the foregoing setup, there is always a signal coming from the PREAMP and into the 2 TUBE AMPS via the Y SPLITTER. The 2 TUBE AMPS are then connected to the A-B SWITCHER which then switches between the signal coming from 2 TUBE AMPS to the FR SPEAKERS. Since the A-B SWITCHER supposedly has Protection Circuitry, would my setup in any way damage the amps which are always being fed by the PREAMP?

1 3/4 inch center leg, stacked to 4 inches, and weighs in at 12kgs...

winding electrostatic shields...

sun drying after soaking in electrical varnish...

to start 2017. i decided to refurbish an EICO 377 audio signal
generator, converting it to 220 volts, and replacing old
ecaps with film types....

traffo converted to 220 volts, psu rewired for
voltage doubler configuration....
power inlet converted to a fig-8 type......
