if you look at the schematics, each output tubes have an 11 ohm 1% small resistors at the cathodes, these resistors served
two purposes, one. to use a bias monitoring ports, and the other as protection for the amp in case of output tube failure,
these resistors will fail as an open circuit without letting the magic smoke out...

so you see, there are reasons why designers put components in, it would be very helpful to find out why they do it...

Thanks again sir Tony for the great info...
Those are the resistors replaced with new ones, with your input means each tube is individually equipped with it as circuit breaker. Looking at the schematic, now realized that I missed to replace one tube each channel. There was a misunderstanding in the instruction manual. It says r25-r27 and r43-r45 to other side. I emailed sonic craft to clarify if r26 &r44 are inclusive but didn't get clear response, instead very generalized statement. That's the reason why I was left with two extra resistors of 11ohms. I think, need to rectify this ASAP.

i still have to test them in an actual circuit, but i am glad to have my hands on them, i could only read them in magazines...
now they are right here in my hands...
and audiophile who passed left them in the care of his son, and thought i should have them...

circuit nuances are what i call them...
and i encourage people to know about them..

i also have unhappy experiences with those so called high end tube vendors, it seems they go missing just when you need them...
i had this push pull 300b amp that had one channel not working, so i asked them for some info...it never came,
so what i did was to trouble shoot, who would have thought
that a 10 watt 0.56 ohm resistor could fail?

just get those cathode resistors reading all the same
and you will be fine...

Thanks again sir Tony for the great info...

what you call white noise could be in fact tube hissing,
a sign of of microphonicity of the tube....5814
since there is only one gain stage in that line amp,
you can try swaping the middle tubes to any of the front and rear tubes and see it that helps, you may also replace
that middle tube with another type of 12au7...
just be carefull, the sockets are tight..

wrt to the low grequency rumble, it is a sign of psu resonance, bring the amp in first week of April..

Good evening Sir Tony, ask ko lang po kung hindi na ba mawawala or mababawasan yung parang white noise when i turn on the power amp? Its not a hum, its more like a white noise. That was the first i've noticed when i first use it pero i was thinking it may go away din siguro after maburn in. The white noise like sound is constant hindi humihina or lumalakas when i the volume up or down, just constant & napansin ko ang speaker drivers are also constantly moving na parang something is sucking inside. Is that normal, will that go away after sometime? I tried removing the RCA just turn on without source or signal but its the same. Pag tahimik sa loob ng room medyo noticeable ang sound. Please advise.

Thank you,
Jay

Sir, I tried swapping the tubes but the white noise is still there just the same. volume-wise it didn't decrease or increase. I wasn't able to try changing the tube with other 12au7.

triode pentode tubes......what to do with over 400 of these? line amps, phono preamps, tone controls, a lot of other uses, it will be a shame to just put them in landfills....
the 6AN8 for example has its triode is quite similar in characteristics with the 12au7 and if you triode connect the pentode side, then can find its place as a Foreplay line amp....may even sound better in pentode follower due to lower output impedance...and if you want a higher gain, there is the 6BL8...
still if you want a substitute for the 12ax7, then there is the 6LX8,,,,

the last ASL AQ-1006, a mono amp repaired and restored to original spec...biased at around 82 mA, so idle plate runs 75 watts...just right for reasonable tube life...just about anything that can go wrong with this amp went wrong....but they are now working fine...
