Should SMB fare miserably again, asahan na isang bata na naman ni Danding/RSA ang ilalagay as coach.

Brader, SAN MIGUEL BEER already has a frontline Fajardo (2014 MVP), Arwind Santos (2013 MVP), Maierhoffer, Kramer & Chua ........ sobra-sobra na dapat ito, for any team.

Ang problema nang SAN MIGUEL BEER, too many superstars, yet only a few (Mercado, Lutz & Fajardo) can create their own shot ...... very predictable - all they do is dump it to Fajardo the whole game ...... overall team defense fails down the stretch.

Ika nga ni Joseph Yeo last season ...... " I know these guys, mga larong mayaman yan kaya walang nangyayari sa team na yan. "

Fajardo is great at center but who's the reliever who can give their center position some quality minutes?
Kramer? Chua? I dont think so.
Arwin Santos at Power Forward? maybe yes but NO as he's more of a 3 than a 4.
Now who's Santos' reliever? Maierhoffer? He's a wingman not a power forward.

Of all 3 San Miguel group teams, the Beermen have the shallowest front court.

So far the San Miguel team i admired was that under Ato Agustin when they beat TNT.
Hubalde, Duncil, Yeo, Miranda, Santos, Ildefonso, Reyes played with a lot of heart and intensity during that championship run.

Hardly any PBA team plays big nowadays. Except for Thoss & Taulava, there's not much back-to-the-basket bigs anymore - and both Thoss & Taulava are on their last legs in the pros.

For the loooong time that TnT reigned supreme, their only reliable big was an aged Ali Peek.

The elite teams SMC & ROS have bigs, but these teams rely mostly on player movement and smart passing, rather than post play.

===========================================================================

SMB has the MVP-award winners the past 2 seasons ...... one is still at his prime, while the other one will rule the paint for the next decade ..... Maierhoffer & Kramer are decent rebounding forwards that provide good minutes off the bench ..... Chua provides quality minutes as well.

However, the difference with SMC & ROS, their bigs know and fulfill their roles superbly ...... their bigs know their sweet spots and their roles on offense - something, which cant be said of SMB and its limited playbook.

SMB has all the tools, it just needs a single coaching voice and a defined system to contend again.

Matangkad pala si Rene Pacquiao! Sure, his being drafted by KIA is pure nepotism, but at least he's tall.

speaking of nepotism --- this is the fifth case of nepotism i can recall in the PBA

1) Loyzaga brothers
2) Jaworski father and son
3) Locsin brothers (although Jun Locasin was not signed)
4) De Ocampo brothers
5) Pacquiao cousins

are there any others?

IIRC, they (Seigles, Mamarails and Pumarens) did not play on the same team

Only the Jaworskis and Pacquiaos (from the list) can be considered as nepotism. The Loyzagas, Locsins and De Ocampos cannot be considered as nepotism since they did not have hiring or signing powers. They did not have the power to choose whom to get for the team. Merely playing for the same team does not make it nepotism.

I believe the Ato Agustin - Marvin Agustin case for Petron can be considered as nepotism. If assistant coach Alas of Alaska has any influence in getting or signing players for Alaska, then Alaska's drafting of the lesser known Junjun Alas may be considered nepotism. And perhaps the Pumarens, coach Pilo Pumaren, coach Derick Pumaren and Franz Pumaren all being under San Miguel can also be considered as nepotism. Dindo Pumaren was the only one who did not have direct ties with San Miguel. Also, then assistant coach Chot Reyes may have had a hand in Jun Reyes' stay in Alaska.

The cases of Dudut Jaworski, Harmon Codinera, Marc Agustin, Jai Reyes, Charles Waters & Jun Alas can be considered nepotism cases.

As for Rene Pacquiao, it's a clear case of nepotism, ignorance and good old "pakapalan-nang-mukha" all rolled into one.

PBA fans should be very thankful - at least, we didn't get Bobby Pacquiao as another PG and Mommy D as muse for KIA.

Harmon Codinera was good in his amateur days with FEU. I don't think he should be considered a nepotism case.

Harmon Codinera was a career benchwarmer in GINEBRA, ALASKA, etc when he was picked-up by PUREFOODS, on the prodding of star player Jerry Codinera.

I know this, because a close cousin of the Codinera's is a good friend of mine from way back.

Hnd ksi maiiwasan un pakikisama ng mga pinoy so its understandable but drafting them never really guarantee a career for them but rather just givin them a chance/opportunity to prove themselves.

I guess. But Chris Tan made that winning shot that gave Sta. Lucia a championship.

I had ommited Norman Black and Chris Tan, since Tan (and a few other players) was being courted by Santa Lucia way before Black was hired ....... this was during the time when the MBA was beginning to show some cracks and players were sending feelers to the PBA.

I actually have little issue with nepotism in the PBA - in the long history of the PBA, it happens quite rarely and there are far more serious problems that plague the PBA.

As long as the player is worthy of a spot (e.g. Tan), he is displacing no one ........ in the case of Dudut Jaworski, Charles Waters, Jai Reyes, etc - these guys were unworthy of roster spots.

In the case of Manny Pacquiao drafting Rene Pacquiao, it's a case of the totally unworthy drafting an unworthy one ....... like the blind leading the blind.  ;)

Let's face it. Most of our young players dream of making it in the PBA not because they love the game but because of the financial benefits they could receive. And when faced with choosing between principle and financial stability for the immediate family , what more the extended family, financial stability would win most of the time.

that is why i have never been fond of that puso puso thingy, i never watched any game of this gilas team, after this games, they will go bak to their team and continue to earn their millions,

There's nothing wrong with that. And wala naman conflict of interest.

The players get to play the game that they love, they get to represent the country, they get the chance to bring honor and prestige to Philippine basketball, and they earn millions in the process.

Pangarap ng lahat yan: to do what you love to do, and earn a living in the process.
