The misery of the San Miguel and Ginebra will continue if they still continue the trading of players and shuffling of bench tacticians.
It seems they never realize all the mistakes they've done all throughout the years.

Hala!

Mark Caguioa lambasts Ginebra teammates on Twitter

Gaya dati, waiting na ulit BGK... for the next conference  :(

I think Ginebra has already the players to compete with the best in the league. All they need is a coach that will push and inspire them to give their best in every game.

Lahat ng players on both teams, may puso. Walang bigayan at laban talaga hanggang dulo. Ang ganda pa ng coaching pareho.

BGK's predicament :

They have young, athletic talent that can run and jump out of the building (Japeth & Ellis) and bruisers (Baracael, JR Reyes & Mamaril) ..... yet none of these guys can create their own shot.

Helterbrand is a ballhog, Urbiztondo is a one-trick PG (can only shoot threes, nothing else), while lead PG Tenorio has been playing angry-ball the past few seasons.

The quality-minutes/effective guys like Ababou & Monfort hardly get playing time.

Top pick Slaughter will have bouts of good and bad games, excusable for a rookie ..... while high-pick Forrester, when not injured, looks to be a hyper-freak thus hardly sees playing time (Ruben Dela Rosa anyone?).

As for Mark Caguioa, the face of the franchise - his style of play excites the masses, yet its not one that promotes team play and wins ...... what is unfortunate for Caguioa, he has somewhat toned down his buwaya-act the past few seasons, yet except for a focused Tenorio, wala na siyang kasabay na matino sa court.

Now, there is a ton of notable players who cant create their own shot e.g. Santos, Williams, Carrey, Quinahan, Sanggalang, Tony Dela Cruz, etc. yet these players thrive, since they pick their spots or their COACH UTILIZE A SYSTEM WHEREIN THEY'RE PLACED IN SPOTS OR ROLES BEST SUITED TO THEIR STRENGTHS.

Matagal ng walang matinong coach ang BGK.

so far, Slaughter has been good. yes, he had some bad games but he's still a rookie. he will improve in time, given he right coach. as for Forrester, i think he is putting too much pressure on himself being the unexpected fourth pick. masyado syang gigil to prove himself. OR....maybe his being the fourth pick has gotten into his head and is trying to over-do himself. either way, it is doing him no good. sayang yung fourth pick ng ginebra. the thing is, hindi na nga ginagamit, na-injure pa.

Urbiztondo is a one-trick PG (can only shoot threes, nothing else)

The quality-minutes/effective guys like Ababou & Monfort hardly get playing time.

acquiring Urbiztondo was a big mistake. yes, he can shoot threes. and yes, that's the only shot he knows. BUT he is not consistent with that, not like Roel Gomez of alaska who also took only threes but was a dead shot. was it Keith Jensen for whom josh was traded for?

Ababou and Monfort have shown that they can deliver. unfortunately for them, they just ride the bench.

Now, there is a ton of notable players who cant create their own shot e.g. Santos, Williams, Carrey, Quinahan, Sanggalang, Tony Dela Cruz, etc. yet these players thrive, since they pick their spots or their COACH UTILIZE A SYSTEM WHEREIN THEY'RE PLACED IN SPOTS OR ROLES BEST SUITED TO THEIR STRENGTHS.

unfortunately for BGK, their battery of coaches are doing the exact opposite. better yet, they are doing anything about it at all. they just design plays that are good to watch but does not suit their players' skills.

Matagal ng walang matinong coach ang BGK.

indeed.

Blame it on management as they keep on experimenting with their bench tacticians.
Al, Ato, or Juno can get the job done is only one of them will be given enough time to call the shots for the team.
A coach should be given at least 3 yrs to get his job done not just a conference to perform.

What? another coaching experiment? why not try Johnny Abbarientos or Richard Del Rosario?

What? another coaching experiment? why not try Johnny Abbarientos or Richard Del Rosario?

Richard Del Rosario was a failure during his collegiate stint ...... its not so much the poor seasons that he had with St. Benilde, its that his teams played with little disciplne, which was noteworthy.

While losing many games for St. Benilde, Del Rosario was doubling as the clown commentator of the PBA ....... half-decent coaches wouldnt be caught dead in such a scenario.

Johnny A. deserves a shot at coaching and would absolutely command the respect of players, should he get a stint ...... I'm just not to sure if he'll go triangle or succeed with it.

Johnny A. was a complete natural when he played, that it seemed like he was dancing on the floor (he was a very good dancer, hence his effortless style of play) ...... these types of transcendent players see things naturally & differently, which more often than not, doesnt equate to coaching success.

But heck, if there's one ex-PBA great that deserves a shot at coaching & deserves the support of fans, it's got to be Johnny A.

Laglag nanaman San Miguel.
Coaching experiments clearly won't work for them.
Fajardo can't do it all for them. He needs a back up at center and perhaps the next move is to trade for Taulava to play back up for Fajardo.
Arwin also doesnt have a good reliever so a trade for the hard working Sean Anthony is also logical.
Above all, put a permanent bench tactician to coach by his own free will for 3 years.

Natalo SMB kasi yung players nila, as Joseph Yeo put it, larong mayaman ang laro. Yung MVP, walang ginawa.

Air 21 will meet the winner between San Miguel Coffee and Alaska while TNT will meet the winner between RoS and Meralco.

Arwind Santos is the best complementary player in the PBA. Put him together with other good players and he will excel. Ask him to be the go-to-guy in the clutch and he will choke. Sayang yung bayad sa kanya.

SMB has a very talented lineup pero walang leader. They have a solid system in place with Purves. They have the talent. May chemistry na din. They just don't have that one guy to bring them together when it matters. That one guy to rally them, to calm them down. They need their own Asi. If they get someone like that, they'll start winning championships.

Arwind Santos can never be effective if he has to force his shots. He would be most effective if he is set up for his shots. That is the job of the point guard. And with point guards who pass only when they have no other options, what can you expect?

Chemistry? SMB has chemistry? I don't think so. They now have two point guards who would rather shoot than pass the ball. Two point guards who would rather waste time dribbling the ball than pass to a teammate. No wonder then that Gregorio let go these two point guards. At least with Cabagnot and Miranda, the other SMB players got to touch the ball in the offense instead of just waiting for passes that never come.

Solid system with Purves? Though I was not able to watch any of the games in the ABL, I see now how Leo Austria beat this "consultant." Abanilla and his system would have eventually brought a championship to SMB. Unfortunately, he wasn't given the chance.

Now, is one time I wouldn't mind the SMB management changing the coaching  staff arrangement. They change it almost every conference naman, whenever SMB fails to win the championship, so why not change it now.

Actually I prefer Ato Agustin coaching San Miguel with the tough line up that beat TNT.
They got Joseph Yeo, Dennis Miranda, enforcer Rob Reyes during that championship.

So its San Mig vs Air 21 and ROS vs TNT sa semis.
San Mig vs TNT should be a great series in the Finals.

what's SMC doing to Ginebra?

http://www.spin.ph/sports/basketball/news/tim-cone-confirms-smc-plan-to-name-chemistry-guy-jeff-cariaso-as-ginebra-coach

Problem is can Cariaso command the respect of the Ginebra players and motivate them to play at the highest level?
Honestly I don't think so. He will just suffer the same faith as Olsen Racela.

Honestly I don't think so. He will just suffer the same faith as Olsen Racela.

Racela's problem was not the respect of the players. Some of his players were former teammates and with Ildefonso still around, respect was not really a problem. His assistant coaches were the same set of people he worked under as a player. Communication was not a problem. The real problem was the consultant Toroman. It's difficult to coach when the consultant makes decisions whether you like it or not, whether you consulted with him or not.

Cariaso's problem is that he has never been an SMC player, whether under SMB, Ginebra or Purefoods/Coffee mixer. He has always been the "enemy". The only reason the coffee mixers respect him is because of Cone. The respect given to Cone extends to him. Another problem is that he has never been a head coach before. Players loyal to Agustin, Chua, Saulier, etc may not exert their best under him.

Before Cariaso agree to meet the challenge of being a head coach in the PBA he must demand to bring his own coaching staff and get rid of the old legions of coaches Ginebra had all through out the years.
Actually mas bagay nga si Coach Jarencio for Ginebra but he's already with Global Port.
