IPS technology
« on: Apr 10, 2014 at 06:10 PM »
LG seems to be boasting IPS (in-plane switching) panel technology for their TV's.  because of this, does it mean their picture quality is superior to others?

or not?

(btw, i'm in the market for 39" - 42" TV)

I think ips panel tech is more on the tv's viewing angle rather than advancement in picture quality and color rendition.

Yes it is. IPS has an evidently better viewing angle than the PVA tech of Samsung.   Having watched with a Samsung 6xxx series for about 2 months now, the most annoying weakness of that LED TV IMO is the poor viewing angle.  Tatayo lang ako or uupo, namumuti na agad ang screen.  I could live with the weaker black compared to a plasma but I really like watching while doing other household chores - and the drastic change in PQ when viewed at off angles is terrible.   I wish I tried an IPS LG instead.

even naman sa mga screen monitor ng computers, iba pa rin ang ips.
mas iba ang colour accuracy nila than any other led monitors.

Mas matinding di hamak nga lang ang black level ng Samsung PVA LED TV than LG IPS. So kung hindi ka manonood sa dark room, oks lang IPS, otherwise grayish.  The darker the room is, the better the Samsung blacks appear that LGs.  Samsung blacks are actually satisfactory and Im coming from Panasonic VT plasmas.  Kaso ang narrow talaga ng viewing angle ng Samsung.    Plasma maganda talaga. Hehehe

Before I bought the Samsung PVA, I was leaning towards the LG IPS because I usually watch with lights anyways - kaso naubos yung LG sa Amazon.

if i understood it correctly, IPS tech benefit is for better viewing angle and NOT for picture quality, am i correct?

Tignan mo yung comparison ng black levels sa bandang baba ng page na eto kung OK lang sa yo yung IPS ng LG compared to PVA ng Samsung (might be difficult to appreciate the difference in black sa screen shots though the numbers are quite telling)

That depends on what display technology you're comparing it with.
