Very clear un sa video, Intentional malinaw... Former Team mate pa nya un just last season.
Suspension 2-3 games... Agree that,s a very dangerous blow.

Delikado na naman ang Lasalle against NU.  Kelan ba ang laban against UP?  Para makapasok na sa Win column ang Lasalle.

^ Yup. No Thomas Torres and potentially no AVO as well may be very significant losses to their lineup.

Just got word, as per UAAP rules, "non-calls" cannot be reviewed and cannot be penalized

Watched the video link and it did not look intentional. He swung his body and naturally his arms followed.

It seems intentional. His body had already stopped moving. It was only his left arm that was swinging. His right arm was not even swinging. He was using it to impede Gotladera's movement.

Also, it was a swing.

If it was a normal boxing out/jostling for position movement, the worst that it could be was a shove forward with the forearm along the back (parang yung tinawag kay Kiefer na "unsportsmanlike foul" during the Adamson game).

But this was a swing... to the nape... in what world is that normal basketball movememt?

I'm from the blue side so my opinion might be biased but if you look closely where AVO is looking at, it is directly at Ponso's head when he gave that blow whether be it the forearm or fist. After giving the blow he looks up to see where the ball is. if you were jostling for position you'd be looking at the ball and just boxing out each other by feel or peripheral vision.

I would think it was the forearm that hit the back of Ponso's head. Of course, if you're gonna do that in game you'd want that it wouldn't be too obvious as like a closed fist.

In any case, whether he gets suspended or not hopefully other players would learn from this that the cameras are there and the commissioner will come down on those type of acts. Hopefully, it would become a deterrent for them to not go out and willfully hurt another player.

That's unfortunate to see even if I'm on the green side and no sanctions were made. Those actions should be meted with penalties.

Did hack-a-Gotladera come from that incident? Sorry I didn't watch the game.

I'm sure he'll get the ire of former team mates now he's in the spotlight and contributing more on the other fence. When BJ Manalo suited the La Salle jersey instead of Ateneo, was he treated the same from former team mates like Wesley Gonzalez, Enrico Villanueva and Richie Alvarez? I bet he did.

I remember him being booed by the Ateneo crowd whenever he's in the court.

This seems unrelated to Hack-a-Ponso. I think Lasalle just did that desperation tactic towards the endgame because they knew that Gotladera was weak at the FT line since he was with them for two years.

I think this is different. BJ was actively courted/recruited by LaSalle because he was one of the best players of his batch, so when he went over to LaSalle, he was vilified by Ateneans.

Gotladera, on the other hand, was almost never used by LaSalle in the two years he was with the team. When he realized that DLSU really had no plans of using/developing him, he transferred to where he could grow more as a basketball player. I don't think anyone could vilify that decision.

Definitely not.  I don't remember any former Ateneo teammate of BJ Manalo ever giving him a shot like AVO's (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).  BJ Manalo even almost suited up for Ateneo, had the hard-core alumni not intervened.  When he tore his knee, he rehab'd in Moro Lorenzo, right in the backyard of his former high school.

BJ Manalo was still friends with Enrico (maybe not with Wesley at the time, but they're cool now) even during the time they played against each other during the UAAP.  Magkababata yang mga yan, teammates since their SBP days.  Rich Alvarez was not a high school teammate.

Ok. Arnold Van Opstal is let off a stern warning from the commissioner:-

http://www.spin.ph/sports/basketball/news/avo-ster

Because as logic dictates that even if it was intentional -

1.) “I don’t even think it’s a disqualifying foul because he hit him in this part,” added Jao, pointing to the area around his wrist.

So you can hit somebody sa head with your wrist area and not get a disqualifying foul. good to know. haha!

2.) According to Jao, Van Opstal explained that he will never hit Gotladera, who he said is a friend, former teammate and classmate back when the Ateneo big man spent two seasons at La Salle.

The commission would have to believe him! AVO even tweeted that he would never do that to a former teammate / friend.

But last season:-
Thomas Torres on the other hand drew a one-game suspension for accumulating his second unsportsmanlike foul, a punch directed at former Green Archer Joseph Marata, during DLSU's match versus the UP Fighting Maroons last Saturday, which his team won in a rout, 85-63.

A former teammate / friend would never do that! haha!

3.) “Sa amin, we were not supposed to review these things,” said Jao. “What we review is the calls of the referees but because it’s out there, I have no choice but to look at it.”

The UAAP has set a lot of precedents that they reviewed things like this even if it was not called by the refs.

Like charles Mammie - he was suspended for two games even when there was no call on him and it was only reviewed on tape that he got a suspension!

University of the East Red Warriors coach Boysie Zamar ripped the UAAP technical committee's decision Friday to uphold the two-game suspension of their center, Charles Mammie.

In a phone interview with GMA News Online, Zamar felt the committee needed to give more consideration to the circumstances before and during the play.

"They have to give the three referees the benefit of the doubt," said Zamar, adding that the contact was clearly unintentional and that no foul was called on the floor.

then of course the UAAP does this :-

http://www.spin.ph/sports/basketball/news/don-trollano-suspension-stands-adamson-forward-to-miss-game-against-ust

But in this game, trollano was caught by the referees.

haha! lesson is don't get caught! you won't be punished as the commissioner can only review calls made in game. if that's the official stance then hopefully they stick to it and not flip flop.

Very nice inbound play by Teng to Perkins for the dagger two with only 1.9 seconds left on their shot clock and DLSU only up by 2 points.

"Nakaw" is what they call it on street lingo.  Similar to many Ginebra plays where Jawo is the passer.

Sunday game between UE and DLSU will be an exciting one.

Wasn't a pretty game for the Archers. 23 TOs in the first half. But, a win is still a win. Kudos to Jeron Teng and Norbert Torres!

The UE trap defense was a beauty to watch, forcing 36 TOs for the Archers.  But I guess napagod din players ng UE sa ginawa nila.  For you to do that all game long, your players must really be in top condition.  And the championship experience of DLSU proved crucial in the dying minutes.  Congrats to DLSU.

The full court press that UE is employing is very good.  Creates a lot of turnovers off opponents. Truly a joy to watch if you're a basketball fan.  But I guess the problem is when one or two players fail to execute then the other players get tired.  The full court press requires athletes in top condition.  Versus so-so teams like UP and Adamson, UE was very successful.  But against a defending champion and a Jeron Teng led DLSU which kept the game close, UE faltered in the end.  Napagod yun players!

I think this is what La Salle didn't like when the Pumarens were at the helm.  They pointed out this flaw of the full court press.
