Wow, brutal.  Punches where thrown.  Severe sanctions will clearly be meted out.

The instigator was #7 of Mapua who charged and hit the EAC guard Tayongtong ( after he put a shoulder on his defender ).  Funny but the same #7 ran like a little boy as EAC players were chasing him.  Ang layo ng inabot ng takbo.

Hit-Run-Do -- a common martial art found on basketball courts, football fields, and other sporting venues all over the world; the practitioner will need to have good timing to achieve the 1) initial hit (either a punch or kick or shove) and good speed to do 2) run like the wind

It's been a long time since you saw a good fight from a basketball game. There were even discussions on another forum I am in that the NCAA is more physical than the UAAP which was why Ateneo and DLSU bolted to the latter.

Guys like Onchie Dela Cruz, Bigboy Reynoso, Rudy Dustrito, etc would not be proud.

Yup.  Ricky Relosa, one of the so called Bruise Brothers, ran as fast as he could from an import named Thomkins.

Here's another video, named as one of the worst in the PBA.  You could see here that guys like Philip Cesar, Sonny Cabatu never blinked nor ran from a fight.  Sya pa nga yun humabol sa import!  Interestingly, Jaworski was the pacifier in this fight ;D

It's been a long time since you saw a good fight from a basketball game. There were even discussions on another forum I am in that the NCAA is more physical than the UAAP which was why Ateneo and DLSU bolted to the latter.

In a way, it is!  The games in the 70s between San Beda & Letran were bloody which involved fans.  May isang game Ateneo San Beda was held closed door dahil nga nagkakasakitan pati fans.  The rivalry then was De La Salle and, again, Letran.  Here's a nice read on why DLSU left NCAA--

LA SALLE - LETRAN

In the 1970s, La Salle started its own rivalry against Letran. The rivalry came into a climax on a August 16, 1980 La Salle-Letran game. The Letran bleachers were totally unoccupied minutes before the scheduled 3 o’clock start. Letran school authorities would not let their students in unless De La Salle's team manager's "guests" leave the south end bleachers that are part of the Letran stands.

The group moved over to the north end (La Salle side) after talks between Ambassador Eduardo Cojuangco then Ferdinand Marcos-appointed project-director for basketball and De La Salle Team manager and Letran Rector Fr. Regino Cortes. Only then did the Letran bleachers fill up.

Letran toting a 22-18 lead called a time-out halfway through the first half.

The south end reserve section (Letran side) erupted with at least five burly men (part of the guests of La Salle's team manager) ganging up on a hapless Letran high school sophomore student for a full minute before police could intervene. But for the mauled student, none was picked up. Almost simultaneously, the La Salle bench suddenly stood up, the players hunched and protecting their heads with towels and jackets against various missiles pelted on them.

Yesterday’s incidents climaxed those in August 6 when La Salle defeated Letran 124-111. It must be noted that the "guests" of De La Salle's team manager were also present during that time.

Also involved in the play-offs is San Beda which lost to Letran earlier. A victory by Letran over La Salle gives it the first round flag. Should La Salle win, it still has to face San Beda and win to clinch the round championship.

Cojuangco never explained why his "guests" just happened to be positioned in the Letran side of the Coliseum.

La Salle for its part, said that it was La Salle students who beat up the Letran student, and both teams went immediately to their respective dugouts. A large number of spectators were hurt, and a great portion of the coliseum was damaged. The game was called off by the NCAA and ordered a replay behind closed doors, but the then-FIBA basketball federation, the Basketball Association of the Philippines ordered the remainder of the season to be canceled. La Salle then announced on a press conference on September 1980 that they will withdraw from the NCAA effective at the end of the 1980-81 season.

Walang video.  But as I was browsing, I learned that Thomkins has long passed away, 2003 pa.  Oh well.

Great win by Perpetual over the Red Lions, 76-75 on the heroics of Harold Arboleda :D

A non bearing game for San Beda but an all important one for the Altas as they hang on for contention in the Final Four.

Kudos to Coach Aric del Rosario, one of the best college coaches IMO.

Classic na yang ginawa ni Ricky Relosa ....... his fist was cocked, ready to punch Thompkins - yet his entire body was running in the opposite direction.   ;D

Like I said, kung sina Onchie Dela Cruz, Bigboy Reynoso, Rudy Distrito, etc ang nagsimula nang away, hindi hihinto ang mga yan hanggat makakita nang dugo.

seriously? sila nga ang kilalang madumi maglaro. his players instigated the brawl. tinulak si Tayongtong tapos sinugod ni Isit siyempre iisipin ni Tayongtong na uupakan siya kaya inunahan na niya. sila pa ngayon lumalabas na kawawa.

Kahit ano pa sabihin natin, Tayongtong punched the guy. The punch landed flush on Isit's face and knocked him down. This is not something you regularly see in basketball (unlike hard shoves and shouting matches when tempers flare up). Now Isit needs to see a specialist to assess if he has a fracture in the eye area. Assault yun. Ang naalala ko dito yung parang sinuntok ni Kermit Washington si Rudy T.

I think this is not the first time this Terry Capistrano figure was involved in a similar situation.  Such displaced school spirit if that's the case.

Total of 17 players suspended from both sides.  All refs were also suspended and fined. EAC's Tayongtong got the heftiest with 5 game suspension.   Mapua's Gabo #7 who instigated everything ( and then ran as fast as he could )  got a 4 game suspension.

While it is true that Mapua's Gabo started the brawl with a hard push on Tayongtong's throat, I would have to agree with you on this.  Yes, that punch in the face was too much indeed.

tayongtong's lucky that he only got a 5 game suspension. some are even expecting him to be banned in the NCAA.

Well, as you said, he was just trying to protect himself.  So naintindihan naman ng NCAA committee yun.  Actually, their initial reaction was Gabo should have the heftiest because he started it all.  However, yun kay Gabo naman hindi closed fist and it was merely a shove - a strong shove that is.  Yun kay Tayongtong, closed fist to the face.

papansin naman tong si atoy co, kung itutuloy niya to then eac should also charge assault on gabo since he was the one who connected first. isit came towards tayongtong, anu ba balak niya? nagkataon lang na naunahaan siya ng suntok.
