Poor sound quality with Samsung 40 inch LED 40h4200
« on: Jul 20, 2014 at 09:58 PM »
We got a Samsung 40h4200, its a 40 inch LED, were playing movies files via USB and the sound is terrible, picture quality seems to suffer too, and these are the same filesfrom my WD drive  that performed well on my Sony TV.  I have not tried with cable as the cable company has not yet installed the cable.  I am using a CDR king 32gig  usb drive, can the USB drive be causing this ?

Ako, i don't expect a good sound from the current tvs. I think norml na yan. Hehe! Just plug your powered PC speakers sa output headphone jack to improve the sound.

Use the audio out coming from the cable box and use a T-amp and bookshelf speakers. You'll get very good sound.

Tested the unit for the basic functions, did not test the audio quality as the use would only be for regular TV viewing, so I expected the unit to AT LEAST be able to produce dialogue sounds clearly, sadly this was not the case with this particular model.

Right now I just connected a headphone with a volume controller so that my dad can listen to his programs clearly

kinda OT:

pero to counter this, yung LG tvs last year na mid-tier to high end had 2.1 audio. Way better than standard computer speakers. Surprisingly good actually if for normal tv viewing

You could ask the dealer for a replacement, just in case it's a factory defect.

If it's normal for that model, you could use a soundbar (preferably with a subwoofer) and hook it up via the TV's digital optical output.

Agree. I had a Samsung TV also, the sound quality is just terrible. Like you said, unintelligible. Sony on the other hand is just fantastic, very clear. Many years back, Sony started to use the BBE (Barcus-Berry Electronic) technology to improve audio quality of their TVs. I wonder if BBE is still used by Sony, Aiwa, Toshiba and other japanese made TVs to improve their TVs' audio.

BBE makes their technology available for home stereo/theater. I have been using BBE audio components for the last 20 years. Music just sounds better with it.  :)

Probably not the USB drive. Try to calibrate the TV's picture muna, baka malaki pa ang improvement sa image quality.

Have you tried adjusting the sound controls in the menu?

Yung picture quality pwede na, since I am not the one watching and acceptable naman sa Dad ko, but my dad is 84 and medjo hirap na ang hearing, kung ako hirap intinidihin yung audio, siya pa kaya. Anyways, I just connected a headphone amp and headphones and he is now enjoying his TV

EQ does not seem to apply to the USB drive.
