What I meant was, pag nag update at wala namang nakitang difference, ok lang yon.  At least, hindi nasira ang TV because of a bad update process.  Delikado kasi talaga ang firmware flashing, on any device.

But after doing a factory reset, ok na daw.

My TV is in 100% normal condition.

Example ng known bug: Set motion judder control to off.  Set to cinema smooth, then set cinema smooth off.  Motion judder control activates by itself, even if motion judder control is off.  To disengage motion judder control, you have to set motion judder control to off, even if it is already off.

AFAIK, updates since around 1116 fixed eco mode bug, black level fluctuation bug in black optimizer setting, and black level bug when cinema smooth is on.

Dismal performance from the 4K LED TVs.  Highest-end, ultra-expensive TV that can't even reach a score of "8" in any category.

Salamat brader!

Tapos na break-in ko sir.  Eto konting pics:

If not wall-mounted, the user will need a table-top wide enough to accommodate the width of the stand.

Samsung calls the frame and stand design the One Body Form, supposedly "created from a single piece of metal" --- NOT!  :D

It's true that the stand is metal - it's anodized aluminum.  However, the TV frame is just plastic, although with a nice brushed finish that looks like anodized aluminum.  Which is why there's a noticeable color difference between the two materials.

I didn't like the stand design in pictures, but surprisingly, it actually looks good in person.  I like it way better than the chicken feet stand, that's for sure.

My bias lighting setup since 2006 --- bulb on a socket with built-in switch, attached to the back panel with a small 3M Command Hook.  Formerly a night light 3-Watt CCFL bulb, now a 1-Watt LED bulb.  No bias light setup can be simpler.

Don Vito ...  :D

Congratulations!

Experts can’t agree which is best:
LG’s new OLED or Samsung’s year-old plasma

By Caleb Denison —August 20, 2014

... As you can see, the competition was tight. LG’s EC9300 OLED scored a total of 51.54 with an average score of 8.58. Samsung’s F8500 plasma pulled a 52.01 total with an average of 8.66. If you go by the total and average score, Samsung’s plasma appears to come out on top, but the LG OLED won more individual categories.

Lets talk about settings.  Whats the best setting out there for this TV?  Is the CNET calibration ok?  Im nearing break in period of 100hrs and would want to put in some calibrated settings.  Cheers!

There's no assurance that two TV panels of the same model series are exactly the same, since manufacturing variations from panel to panel are unavoidable.

Therefore, copying the professionally calibrated settings of another F8500 does not guarantee good results.  In fact, there's a good chance that you might end up with a bad picture.

The way I see it, a user who has no professional calibration equipment has two choices:

(a) Get a professional to calibrate it; or
(b) Do a basic calibration yourself with a Disney WOW disc or the free AVS HD 709 patterns.

Tip:

If you want to do a simple calibration yourself using the AVS HD 709, you can set color and tint without need of any blue-filter glasses.  Just set the screen to blue-only and adjust color and tint accordingly:

Picture > Advanced Settings > RGB Only Mode > Blue

I bought a bluetooth keyboard for internet browsing.

It's a Rapoo E6700:

With large touchpad.  Very slim profile; rechargeable lithium battery; scissor-switch keys; bluetooth connection is good.

Designed for tablets, but works well with my Samsung TV's internet browser.

The Windows "start key" functions as a "Menu" button.  On a web page, "Esc" key functions as a "back to previous page" shortcut; swiping the touchpad with 2 fingers scrolls the page up and down.

I got it at Octagon at SM Mega.  It's the only bluetooth touchpad keyboard I could find.  But it works well.

BN59-01054A?

Maganda yan sir, Samsung Universal yan (not universal as in any TV, universal as in any Samsung TV lang).

... Pero paano ang "Smart Hub" button?  May workaround buttons ba sir for accessing Smart Hub?

OK yon kung may Smart Hub button workaround.

Yung camera button, hindi naman masyadong nagagamit.  Besides, you can access camera via the Smart Hub, so OK pa rin.

Congrats barrister!

I'm not sure if it's a standard feature for new TVs but I just found out today that this TV supports Miracast. So if you have a smartphone with Miracast, this tv is perfect for smartphone mirroring and browsing.

Can't wait for my PN64F8500 to arrive!

I'm quite amazed by this model, for something that was introduced about a year ago, and I would assume has already ended production, it is still being reviewed and always gets good marks ... this review was just done recently - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/samsung-pn51f8500-hdtv-smarthub,3867.html

I noticed though that the remote posted on the review is not the same as what was posted by sir Barrister

I think that Tom's hardware review features a model that does not come with a regular IR remote.

The F8500 originally came with only 1 smart touch remote, without a regular IR remote.  Later builds for the US and UK markets eventually came with 2 remotes, presumably due to customer complaints about so many missing buttons on the smart touch.

AFAIK, only the US and UK versions have 2 remotes.  Even the Canadian market F8500 comes with only 1 smart touch remote.

===================================

This US review shows an included IR remote which is more basic, the AA59-00786A.  With Smart Hub and 3D, but no backlight, Search, P-Size, History, Family Story, or Camera:
http://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&id=1375254254#4

This UK review shows a higher-end IR remote.  With Smart Hub, 3D, backlight, Search, P-Size, History, Family Story, and  Camera: http://www.avforums.com/review/samsung-f8500-ps51f8500-3d-plasma-tv-review.544

I can't see the model number, but my guess is that it's a AA59-00581A, for the UK market:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009M8INPK/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1/280-2310378-3358929?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_r=1CH5W1D0P0BH0TB6RY9D&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=479289247&pf_rd_i=B00F70RRSQ

Closest to that UK model is the US model AA59-00637A: http://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-REMOTE-CONTROL-MODEL-AA59-00637A/dp/B0089Z7BD2/ref=pd_tcs_subst_e_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0M6G86HHYBTNGQTF7FZC

Samsung Philippines doesn't have it, but they do have the AA59-00641A:

I'll just post it here since I bought it here in US and prices greatly varies each state esp. with tax, let alone a different country. Got it for $2.5k with tax and shipping included. I could've gotten a better deal elsewhere but I can't risk it since the stocks here are running low so I bit the price. There were also better deals months ago but I procrastinated. Best Buy, Paul's, and other reputable retailers and online resellers don't carry the TV anymore and they also said that they won't be receiving new stocks from Samsung.

Napansin ko rin sa ibang online resellers umaakyat na ang price probably due to the low supply ang high demand of these TVs. ganito rin kasi nangyari sa mga Panasonic plasma TV like VT60, mas mahal na ngyon at ang taas ng resale value for a used TV.

maganda yung remote sa Tom's Hardware review ... meron ng trackpad and likely pareho ng smart remote ng LG which acts as an air mouse ... embossed din yung keys, so kahit hindi backlit madali pa rin gamitin  pag night time

one good thing about the review is that their calibration settings could be a good reference

Hi berryjuice!  2.5K (tax and shipping included)! -  Where exactly did you buy from the US?   It's still about 3.1K in Amazon plus tax pa; 2.3K for the 60 incher.  Thanks!

One of my biggest electronic regrets - I didn't get the 65VT60 for 2.1K on Cyber Monday 2013.  It was still 2.3-2.5K when I left for vacation in Dec.  Told myself I'd get it in Mar.   Pagbalik ko ng Jan ay 5K na!

The smart touch remote (hi-tech remote with touchpad) is the remote that comes with all F8500s worldwide.

Ang talagang problema ko, my universal remote for all HT components (1 TV, 1 AVR, 3 disc players, 1 media player, and 1 aircon) is a Philips learning remote that can copy IR (infrared) signals from an orig IR remote. That's why I needed a regular IR remote.

Ang dapat na ginawa nila, 2 remotes included: one smart touch and one regular IR.

Useful ang touchpad for internet browsing. For internet browsing use, the best pa rin ang bluetooth keyboard with built-in touchpad.

How's the Performance of the F8500 TV with the regular cable service. I'm not planning to upgrade to digital pa eh. just want to know how it will fare with the regular cable subscription? Tnx.
